    Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about breast reductions. I have always hated how big my are and really wantto get them reduced but I dont have the first clue about costs etc. Are the scars very bad?

    Thanks

All I know is it costs loads and is quite painful.
There are irish websites that give information from the places that do it.

Hey can I ask why you hate the size of your breasts so much? Surgery is very drastic and you may be better off dealing with how you feel about yourself as you are rather than considering surgery.

The scarring is meant to be quite bad usually it involves a circular scar around the areola and the an anchor shaped scar running from that under your breast.
There is a lot of info online, but be careful a lot of it is from clinics trying to push surgery and some of the info can be very bias.

    I know a little bit about it, was actually doing some research the other day, funnily enough ;

Apparently, if you're bigger than an F, have a BMI of less than 27 and have been prescribed painkillers for back-pain as a result of your bust-size, you can qualify for a free reduction under VHI.

If you aren't eligible for that, like all surgery, it can be quite costly! Prices I saw were anything from 3,000 to over 7,000 euro!

I haven't personally experienced this but my partner's mother has.

She got it done quite a few years ago and is very happy with it. It was something that she always wanted done. I can't remember what size she was.

I couldn't tell you about scarring as we're not quite that close (yet! I wouldn't put anything past that woman :D )

The only thing I would say is to research, research, research. And probably, knowing the way things normally are, don't go for the cheapest option, it generally isn't the cheapest option in the long run.

Wow I did not know that.
Id love to get a reduction done, but the only thing stoping me is that, should I ever want to, when I researched it I found out that its supposed to be difficult to breatfeed afterwards - see last few sentences http://www.vhi.ie/hfiles/hf-534.jsp.

    Yikes.

I guess more than one big decision involved in getting this procedure then.

I'm not sure if I'd ever go under the knife myself, I have down days about certain things, but I am who I am, try not to think about altering my appearance.

I do feel self-conscious about my boobs sometimes. It's quite sickening to know that without them I'd be a size 8/10! But I just give myself little pick-me-ups rather than consider surgery!

I can most definitely understand why some women want it done though, and I do emphasise.

This is something I have considered too. I'm 32FF and size 8/10, the pain in my back some days is unreal. Also trying to find clothes that fit nicely can be a struggle. However after seeing my aunt go through this I have reconsidered. Despite her caring for them properly after the op and doing everything the right way, hers seemed to get constantly infected. She was on anti-biotics for a long time after. Nearly two years later she is still quite uncomfortable. She had her op done in Ireland.
However I have seen the other side too. A friend of mine, 22 also, went to Poland to have this done before Christmas. She had very little pain after and the results were amazing. She went from an E cup to a C and is really really happy.
As mentioned earlier if you suffer chronic back pain it may be offered to you free of charge.

Have contemplated breast reduction for many years.....asked for one for my 18th, parents decided a car was a better option :(
Currently a 34 G, size 14, came off the pill back in Novemeber to see if they would reduce slightly....no luck, my mother even commented the other day that they were looking bigger!

My main fear is that even with surgery they might still get bigger, i.e pregnancy, women in my family BALLOON during pregnancy, my cousin went up about 3/4 cup sizes and hasnt gone back down after having her last child 3 years ago!

If you do decide to go ahead with it, research it, talk to people who have had it done and good luck!

Slightly off topic, but what really annoys me is when people say sure if you lost weight theyd surely go down! Last time I lost weight, approximatley 2 stone my boobs went up 2 cup sizes! Yes I know I am slightly overweight, but seriously my boobs must weigh at least a stone!

My breasts aren't massive but they're quite big (C/D) and bigger during menstruation when they can become very tender, achey and heavy. I imagine really big ones feel like that nearly all the time, which must be quite miserable.

Sorry for butting in but Agnes Castus from Holland & Barrett or any health store is very good for the sore boobs.

Hi I'm currently awaiting my breast reduction and to help me get through the emotions involved I'm writing a blog about my journey, I'd love for people to come visit and post their comments and own stories on the page. Go on don't be shy. SNIP
