DSP and modal synthesis resources?

    Hullo,

Doing a project in modal sound synthesis at the moment and was wondering if anyone here would have any experience in the area and possibly any resources (books, links, tutorials)?

I've a pretty good grasp of the high level concepts, and have implemented a time domain synthesis algorithm already, but my background is in Economics and IT and not engineering so I'm having difficulty finding enough information at a low enough level (i.e. sample code instead of mathematical notation?)

I'm reading the DSPguide at the moment and i'm finding it very helpful, but it lacks enough detail on implementation i find. Matlab tutorials in particular would be what i'm after.

namely I want to be able to create modal models using both windowed FFTs and also Finite Element Method, and then synthesize the sounds using an inverse FFT in C++.

Any guidance or resources would be greatly appreciated considering my lack of a background in the area.
