been threatening to go back to exercise and weight training for a few weeks now and cant seem to get motivated.

I just lose all motivation when I get home from work.

What do you do to help you get motivated?

Someone suggested using a photo of the physique I would like and keep it somewhere I will see it a few times a day.

I think just actually going back down will get you motivated. Just do it. Ease your way back in to it if you've been out for a bit. The buzz will come back after a good session and this in itself will be a motivator. Works for me anyhow and Im only back after three weeks of illness.

    Goals goals goals.

If you don't have a goal you're wasting your f'in time. Sit down and think about what you want to do and do it. When people say they do it just to stay in shape I don't know how they keep getting back to it. I couldn't be arsed.

Whether it's a sport, a certain way of looking, a weight lifted, a time to complete something it doesn't matter. If you've no goal you'll just end up aimless.

Get a photo of someone who is in the shape you want to be in and make it your GOAL!

Ignore the sunbed bit (or not?)

This guys physique should inspire anyone to want to get healthy.

It really depends what sort of motivation you respond to in life. Fear or praise, piece meal or lump sum.

What else would you be doing in the evenings at home?

Scenario 1: Looking after kids, studying, home DIY, etc? You probably have your hands full enough and would be better trying to go workout early in the morning on the way to work.

Scenario 2: You go home in the evenings and plonk on the couch watching the umpteen re-run of a Simpsons episode from 1996. You need to get your priorities straight. That Simpsons episode will still be on repeat in 2029!

    • Enter a race / competition / event (ideally with a family member or friend for added competiveness)
    • Read an inspirational sports biography
    • Watch an inspiration sports documentary
    • Take photos
    • Take measurements
    • Start a log. When you look back you will be inspired to continue when you see the progress you have made

Can you not train BEFORE you come home from work?.

I'm not being silly, but when I get home I find it hard to make the effort to get off my tired arse and out to the gym, so I hit it on the way home.

As for motivation, well its hard to set goals when your not motivated so you really have to take tiny steps - make it a goal to spend 30 minutes in the gym at first and build up from there - tiny steps turn into the first big steps in the journey of a thousend miles!.

Seriously, go for a walk, or the gym but don't tire yourself out otherwise you won't motivate yourself into doing it all again tomorrow.

And as you progress your workouts should get harder, but again (even for very experienced gym users) never level the gym knackered or your leaving very little time or energy for recovery.

Stick on an iPod and ignore the other's in the gym, novices feel put out training around people they perceived as being more advanced - 'feck em all'.

Tiny steps then bigger steps & hopefully you've started your journey again!.

Get a progressive programme and start it.

I get home have dinner and sit around chomping at the bit till I get down the gym and add some weight on the bar.

It works for me at the moment.

On a very simply level I kept the weights in the spare room and couldn't be arsed going in there most nights after going home. So I put the dumbbells on a cushion between my couch and the TV. Can't avoid them then and it's enough to get me doing some stuff at least

Ryan Reynolds too skinny in my opinion althought plenty of girls love him.

But that's not actually that hard to attain, he's got little body fat but hardly any muscle, a regimen of strict eating, lots and lots of cardio and little weight training would get you that way.
