Is Creatine really bad for you?....just pullin the piss ;)

My question is about cycling creatine. Whats the ideal time for going on it and off it, Ive heard 6 weeks on with 2 weeks off?

Personally, when I was using it, I just used it continuously, a few grams in my shake after training, 3-4x a week.

    Did no harm.

    Why bother cycling it?

Well I do weights 4 times a week and take shakes twice a day, in the morning and after sessions. In the shakes is 25g protein, 5g creatine and 5g glutamine. So I'm take a good bit more creatine than you so maybe cycling is needed. I've been told that if you take creatine for too long it can inhibit your bodys own ability to make creatine

But theres creatine in red meat? Should one not eat red meat for that month also?
And how come our bodies dont get used to protein? Considering creatine is 3 amino acids joined?

It's a very small amount , the point of taking the sup is so you dont need to eat a masive amout of meat

Probably a misunderstanding here. This can happen with steroids as they effect the bodies own natural hormones, but creatine is not a steroid/hormone in the same sense and therefore its synthesis in the body is not really affected by consuming it in food or supplements.

Ok. So can you tell me then, is there any problem with the amount of creatine I am taking and should I or shoud'nt I cycle it?

There is theory that too much Creatine over time can cause negative feedback i.e stop synthesis on the body. I was thought this in college but theres no documented cases of this happening, well none that I've ever being able to find. The only reason to cycle 2 months on 1 month off is because the manufactures tend to recommend it! I took it continuously but recently cycled & have noticed the effects more. I find its helped me where i'd usually plateau!

5g with your pre workout shake and 5 with you post workout shake , on days off when ever suits you, dont wory 10g's is just about right if you take too much you will knw all about it , large amounts have a laxitive effect:D

I find it fascinating how o.p wouldn't just look up a study regarding the ergogenic effects of creatine and its modus operandi.

Basically exogenous creatine can be "loaded" for the first 7 days (this study used creatine monohydrate)

The loading phase causes a spike in phosphocreatine levels thus generating more ATP than the body would normally with lower phosphocreatine stores.

A mere 2 gr ingested daily was enough to keep phosphocreatine levels equal to what they were during the loading phase. I'd go with 5gr anyway.

Bo studies point to a need to "cycle" creatine, nor do any studies point to possible renal damage that could be caused by its use.

Note also that Caffeine completely negates the ergogenic effects of creatine so you should lay off caffeine completely when looking for the extra anaerobic endurance provided by creatine supplementation for a powerlifting meet etc.

I find it funny that you dragged up a thread over a year old just so you could show people how smart you are.

What is the best value out there? I prefer the capsules as they are easier to take.
