I'll go out on a limb here, but I've been mulling this over for quite some time, but this is what I've come up with:

    1) George Costanza - Seinfeld

    2) Eric Cartman - South Park

    3) Agent Dale Cooper - Twin Peaks (perhaps pushing the boundaries of what qualifies as a sitcom, but fantastic character)

I could list the whole cast of Arrested Development but special mentions for Tobias Funke and Lucille Bluth.

    Also:
Murray & Mel (Flight Of The Conchords)
Pamela, Bryn and Nessa (Gavin & Stacey - can't pick my favourite out of those three)
    Basil Fawlty (Fawlty Towers)
    Bernard Black (Black Books)
    General Melchett (Blackadder Goes Forth)
    Sheldon Cooper (Big Bang Theory)
Bob Kelso and Janitor (Scrubs - again, can't pick my favourite)
Rachel Green (the only Friends character who was consistently funny for all ten seasons)

Eh.... what about Ross? When was he ever not funny? In fact, I'm adding Ross to my list...

He was acting like a dope. That ain't funny. Always had a smug creamy face on him.

Nah Chandler and Joey were the only two who were funny in all 10 seasons. The others weren't as funny.

Too right. Ross always looked like he had a pair of brass balls slung across his face. Didn't know if he was laughing or crying.

Rigsby from Rising Damp for crying out loud. "Oh Miss Jones, Miss Jones". One of the greatest sitcoms ever.

    Vyvyan from The Young Ones?
I really think we're stretching the term Sitcom though.

    The Chandler-Ross-Joey axis in Friends
    The Todd in Scrubs
Henry Sellers and The Milkman guy (can't remember the name now-Swirly or something was it?) and the rest of the guest characters like Eoin McLove in Father Ted.
I know there are some obvious ones that I'm missing

QFT. His character was completely dumbed down.

Joey became too unrealistically stupid. Chandler was the best character at the start of the show but I think he lost his edge; again, the character was dumbed down.
Phoebe went from being endearingly kooky to being a bit of a bitch. Monica became obnoxious and loud.

Rachel was the only character who I think actually progressed throughout the series and didn't go downhill. Plus she had some fantastic lines and Aniston is a terrific actress. :)

A terrific actress?? Don't know about that chief - her range is fairly limited to be saying things like that. She'll never step out of that character, much like the rest of the cast from that show.

+1 :D I can't actually think of his character without cracking a smile. Gob was very good also.

    More recently:

    Tracy Jordan - 30 Rock

    South Park isnt a sitcom.

    Friends isnt funny.

    Anyway,

    Dr Bob Kelso - Scrubs
Michael Kelso - That 70s Show

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,612 ✭✭✭uncleoswald

    George Costanza's mum.

Tobias "the worlds first analrapist" Funke or Gob from Arrested Development.

Murray from Flight of the Concords.

Joey's weird new flatmate in a few episodes of Friends.

And Ross from Friends because I'm weird and I wont back down on this even though it makes my point of view null and void. But at least he is a sitcom character unlike a lot of choices on this forum.

    Gob - Arrested Development

Arrested Development has the best sitcom cast imo

Kenny F*cking Powers - Eastbound and Down
Creed or Andrew Bernard from the US Office
    Johnny Drama - Entourage
Wolowitz - The Big Bang Theory
    Frank Costanza - Seinfeld
    George Micheal - Arrested Develoment

I only saw the last series of Blackadder and while both Blackadder and Baldrick were brilliant, General Melchett owned that series imo. :D

I must watch the first three series' at some point...

    And a few series later:
