Protein from Milk

Ok, so i have been working at fixing up my diet and am looking to add more protein.

I know all the different options but i got this question into my head.

I read that the protein RDA for an adult my age is 56g

Now, i drink alot of milk and protein per 100ml is 3.3g, meaning a litre of milk contains 33g

If one was to fill their RDA with milk, would this suffice purely on a level of getting your fix of protein? Or are other types of protein required?

This may be a completely silly question, but i know Boardsies (especially on the Fitness Forum) are always glad to help.

That's very little protein no matter what age you are, and is equivalent to only 200 calories which generally speaking would be only 10% of your diet.

Not to mention the milk would have approx 5g of carbs for every 100ml also.

What's wrong with an egg or some chicken?

What are your goals? What does your diet look like at the moment?

56g of protein is very very easy to achieve.

I can hit that with by breakfast with a good omlette.

Two large chicken breasts should suffice to make up 56gs. You don't need to try particularly hard to get that in.

Try banging in your current diet into Fitday or something similar to give you an idea of what your consuming. It might also show you where you are lacking/overindulging in other areas too..

    So 56g is wrong?

My diet used to be just junk after junk. But in the last couple of weeks i have been slowly changing it. Proper breakfasts, fruit during the day, proper dinners etc.

I used to drink nothing but Coke all day but havent had any in 2 weeks and am just drinking water instead.

I'm not into eggs but chicken is great for protein i know, i was just wondering about the milk!

Milk is great, I'd bathe in the stuff if I could, but the doctors say I'm not allowed anymore. :D

I'm just saying that 56g is very little imo. But, it all depends on your goals, if you're trying to shift some fat then obviously you making up the rest of your calories with carbs and fat, which isn't the way to go.

What is a proper diner if you don't mind me asking? If fat loss is your goal, the traditional "proper dinner" is not you're friend - avoid excess carbs like spuds, pasta rice etc. Fill up with lean protein like chicken, fish etc and eat lots of veg.

RDAs are usually the minimum you should be getting, not the optimum. e.g. The RDA for vitamin C is very low, it is just enough to stave off scurvy, many VitC pills have many times the RDA.

If you are doing weightraining then you need more protein to recover than a patient lying in a coma would.
