    Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone could tell me how much an 18 year old would expect to pay for membership here in terms of joining fee and monthly payments?

They refuse to tell me on the phone and I know that if I go down there without any general idea I'll just get haggled into being screwed over:p

    Cheers

Simple solution's to go down without any cash and without a card. Makes sure you don't rush into anything, and if they do have an amazing sales pitch it better be good enoguh to keep you hooked for the time it takes for you to get home and come back with cash in hand!!

€1,100 for a year???? For an 18 year old????? OMFG. I get my membership to Total Fitness AND Hercs for less than that. Hell, full membership to both gyms is less.

Man they'd wanna have a REALLY good reason to be charging that much.

At least when i joined in Nov 07, it was €55 a month for students.

I got free joing fee on special offer, so don't know bout that bit.

As for being suckered by their slick talk, from what i remember they wren't actually that charming, i wouldn't worry bout it!

in feb in clontarf it cost me 100 joining and 55 a month student rate. you can get better joining fees, at the moment theyre doing it for €31, so ask about that. i dont think the monthly fee is very negotiable though.

Does anybody know why they would do this? are they more likely to charge certain people more or less?

e.g. I could imagine a gym owner giving a fat new years "resolutionite" a cheaper price than a big BBer. Since the BBer is more likely to continue going for the whole year and hopefully the big guys stops going after a month.

They tell you €1,100 on the phone, you laugh and hang up.

They show you the gym, get friendly, put a hard sell on, tell you €1,100, tell you other payments options, you might sign up...

They will definately drop the joining fee and you can get it for free, just keep saying i cant afford a joining fee. They have a sales protocall and the main objective is to get you signed up so the upfront is a bonus only. they will go to zero on it. Just keep saying its too much.
