Although a quick glance says most of our big guns are out tomorrow so I suppose staying in touch is the priority today.

Just one point from the women's Javelin, but that was expected.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,614 ✭✭✭Rineanna

Claire Wilkinson takes an excellent joint second, so gets 6.5 points. Didn't even realise Zoe Brown had pulled out!

Mary McLoone takes 5th in the Triple Jump. A good result given it's one our weaker events.

Well done Mary, picking up extra 1 or 2 points is key.

Zoe Brown's absence is disappointing to be honest:mad: but Claire stepped up and got maybe 0.5 pts less than what Zoe may have got.

Alan O' Brien just took Ireland's first win, with a 3.50.17 win in the 1500m. Practically guessed Reale wouldn't be racing.

I don't think Zoe Brown has represented Ireland yet, has she?

Some great performances so far from athletes who wouldn't be classed as top tier. If as expected our big guns are tomorrow, we could have a great weekend

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,614 ✭✭✭Rineanna

Unfortunately Colin Quirke was down on his best and finished 8th in the Shot, but has the Discus tomorrow.

Watching top division on BBC the new system is a little all over the place in the womens 3,000m

Yep, the Spanish girl was eliminated with five laps to go, didn't see her notification, and went on to cross the finish line first. Farcical.

Was a bit of a disaster however officials really should have got her out of the race early. they are able to do it for walks so why not track. It not a great idea for the championships however and from this will be slated

From the photos, Britton didn't fall foul to the DTTH in the 'chase, so she's at worst 5th.

Not bad but jaysus get those batons around in the 4 x 1, crucial!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 58 ✭✭eltuerto

This new rule has to be scrapped. Cram on BBC suggests giving extra points to those LEADING the race at certain stages. Think this is an excellant suggestion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,614 ✭✭✭Rineanna

The new rules have cost Steve Fleming in the LJ. He had a poor first jump and then fouled his 2nd, meaning he was eliminated finishing 8th.

Probibility is zero, although we might be lucky and a few races posted on youtube in a few weeks :pac:

The only time I remember seeing Ireland at the Euro cup was in Vaasa two years ago when the British Women's team were in the same league and the Beeb were obviously there.

Lads lets not be fooling ourselves and expecting RTE to cover this. They aren't covering the boxers at the EU champs and they won 3 medals in Beijing. Also, the absence of half our small number of big names doesn't make it appealing. RTE are fuct and are covering very little outside of the ball sports based on Ian O' R article last week. Maybe raise a couple of 100k and donate to RTE:D

    4 events to go. W 3000sc, M HJ and 4 x 1's.

To be within 10 pys of LTU at the end of the day would be ok at this stage but we need all to fire tomorrow!

I could be wrong, but I think Britton won the 'chase. I'm open to correction, but it looks like her on the photofinish out in front.

    Now that'll help if true.

In 10 events tomorrow we can be in the top 2. If so, we will be close to promotion (is it 2 go up?)

Unfortunately Lithuania were ahead in both, and a team in red was second in men's, so that's either Austria or Slovakia.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,567 ✭✭✭RoyMcC

Argh, in Leiria Fifton pulls up injured in the 4 x 100. But the Brits still in good shape at the end of Day 1 subject to Benjamin retaining his 12 points in the 400m.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,614 ✭✭✭Rineanna

Actually, it was Bulgaria and Lithuania ahead in the men's 4x100m. Austria were DQ'd, which is good news.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,762 ✭✭✭✭ecoli

Croatia and Austria no points in the 4x100m that should leave us primed for a good assault on the second spot come tomorrow maybe even 1st depending on the depth of the LTU team for tomorrows events
