Great to see him there. If the second row doesnt function on sat we may see DOC,POC and the bull reunited?

if some poor fella should unfortunately get injured

I think a man like John Hayes would prefer to think this way.

Imagine a front row with The Bull on one side and Sheridan on the other.....

Or a lineout for that matter.

That would be some sight alright. Hard to understand why they didnt see the merit in it first time around

Hayes made the Lions tour in 2005 as well!
the Lions really need a new scrum half and a 6 out there too Ellis and Blair are in brutal form.
Peel and Leamy get your bags.

Great for him but for his club and coutry he should be staying at home resting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,025 ✭✭✭d'Oracle

Lets face it, he isnt getting fitter.

He would die on the highveldt.

Well considering he missed the first 6 games and all the training surely a couple of weeks training and one or 2 appearances won't be too taxing!

    Then we'll send Buckley!!
we'll keep this ridiculous tour with its massive body count going if it kills us

The lions is one of the greatest honors a player can have. Why do you think John Hayes is on his way?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,025 ✭✭✭d'Oracle

I can't understand the lions at all.

How is it an honour to be assembled into a squad of players from 4 countries, to play against one?

All this talk of the north-south gap and every 4 years every player in the home nations clamours to represent the fact that none of the 4 are good enough to beat the SANZARS alone.

    Still, its good to watch.

I say he'll fill the midweek gap and then contest Test 2 but more likely 3.

Back in the day they were good enough to beat them (Well Wales and England mostly were).

What it means to a player is that with the four player pools combined you are one of the best of a bigger lot.

There's only 1 midweek game left. He's there to cover injuries realistically, he has no opportunity to make a claim for a test place.

John Hayes has been a tireless servant for Munster and Ireland and has helped them on the way to Heineken Cups, Triple Crowns and the Grand Slam, being called up to the Lions at any point is a huge endorsement of his ability. To begrudge him that is crazy?

Yes just there for cover but could easily be a few injuries in the front row as there be some tough battles ahead..

Hopefully he gets some game time

I'm not begrudging him at all,i said it was great for him and well deserved.I said that for Ireland and Munster it would be better if he stayed home and rested.

Brilliant news for him.... I'm delighted that he's gotten the call up. Whether he gets game time or not it's a fitting tribute to a him as a sportsman and a true gentleman.

A shure be great if they all did. We could do without BOD or Heaslip or someone getting injured ourselves, but it would be amazing if a Lions team with Irish men in key positions could beat the world champions.

Ellis isn't in bad form...? But yeah, definitely another 6. Desperately needed!

This is the same man that played for 80 minutes in all the Six Nations Games.

This is the same man that is immune to injury.

    Your statement is just wrong.

That's great news for the Bull ... delighted for him, fully deserved.

What a good year it's been for him; from all accounts he is a class act ... pure gent

Hope he gets a good run out and a test cap.

I can just imagine him now, hoisting POC like a fork-lift in the line-outs, and turning a game :)

And its not like he was unfairly not selected orignally the fact is as much as I like Hayes he is going to get demolished in the scrums.

He may only have a season left, but this will be a great way to see off his last tour. Hope he gets capped.

Delighted for him. Admittedly i don't think he will play a test match, but id love to see him on the bench against the Emerging Boks and maybe force his way into contention for one of the remaining tests. Imagine of Big Os was still playing.. what a match up it would be with 2 of the gentle giants of rugby going head to head.

Good man Bull! The forecast is good for the weekend but the hay will have to wait!

I think O'Connell will be relieved to know that Hayes is on his way! For every lineout O'Connell steals the Bull is lifting!

I thought we had to freeze the bull for the summer to have him fresh to play every minute of every game for province and country.
