How much water you drink vs how much water you need?

How much water is enough to hydrate yourself?
    How much is too much?

I run, bike and swim so train pretty much most days. I am asking about hydration because I seem to have slipped into a habit of filling up the 1ltr water bottle and using that for each session, maybe refilling it if I have access to a fresh tap. In work during the day I have a 1.5 ltr bottle on my desk. I fill it in the mornings and aim to drink it all during the day, occasionally refilling about a third of it. On a busy day running around to meetings I may forget to bring the waterbottle with me and for example its 3.15pm and the bottle is still full from this morning on my desk. The usual process for me now would be to gulp it all down on the next half our to be sure 'I drink the 1.5 ltrs'!

I drink about a litre or more of milk a day, maybe a cup of tea or hot choc once a day and I don't drink coffee.

Any good hydration tips out there and how would you rate your own rehydration process?

All I vaguely know is to go by the colour of my pee rather than thirst

Thanks. Just found it, read it. Not very informative. Perhaps this is the wrong forum for this question.

Drink when you feel thirsty. Try to listen to you body, as cheesy as that might sound.

Generally, if it's clear when you urinate, you are hydrated. If not, drink some more.

A good rule of thumb is you need to pee clear 5 times a day, twice after exercise. I don't have any research papers to support this but I heard Lyle McDonald mention it, bodyrecomposition.com fyi

I drink water all day - potentially up to 5 litres during work.
Its a habit, i just sip on it all the time & when its empty i go get more straight away

Not sure if thats overkill, but i like it

If you feel thirsty aren't you already dehydrated?

    irfu nutritional guide: body weight (kg) x 50. so 75 kg x 50 = 3.75 litres
