From the Limerick Post this morning:

    Benefits of cycling:
-Regular cyclists enjoy a fitness level equal to that of a person 10 years younger (National forum for coronary heart disease foundation, sharp)
-Cycling at least 20 miles a week reduces the risk of heart disease to less than half that for non cyclists who take no other exercise (british heart foundation, morris)
-If a third of all short car journeys were made by bike, national heart disease rates would fall by between 5 and 10% (bikes not fumes, ctc, 1992)
-During rush hour, a bicycle is about twice as fast as a car.

Its spread across page 70-1. It also states the cost saving benefits such as no tax ( no nct needed, no no fuel bills, lisencing). A good bike should last for years, a REALLY good bike even longer. How long do some cars last? It also states that up to 20 bicycles can be parked in the same spot as one car.

So come on everybody, ditch the car every now and again for the bike!!

Yep I love cycling around Dublin, was a bit nervous when I first started on an old mountain bike a few years back but you get used to the traffic. It's a great feeling buzzing around in rush hour too :pac:

used to like a good cycle in dublin myself until my tyre frames took a beating with the sh1tty road surfaces and i had to get new ones. Not too keen on inhaling the fumes from buses and cars either so dont bother cycling in dublin anymore
