Would any of ye have a simple design for a spinning jenny or a wire unwider for fencing. I had one here but I gave a loan of it ages ago and I don't know where it is now. Thanks

I'm sure there is one in this thread, it's a pity the search facility sucks.

Probably not to hard to replicate one like this.

    Get a set of these,

6,8 or 10 stud? Yokes that haven't been touched in 20 years the studs can spin handy enough.

You'd pick up an axle with supersingles for less than the price of 4 tyres if you can weld in yourself. Something like below would pump your ride!

Il throw a drop of kerosene on em, il get them going alright. No, their is a good crowd in skibbereen that call out, they would have the tyres and punctures changed, by the time I would have found the socket set.

They are gorgeous, but will probably cost more than the trailer. Il ring tomorrow.

    Thanks everyone

I'm making up one of these at the moment. A plastic barrel hay/straw feeder for calves. I'm going to hang it from the roof with a rope. Has anyone made one and if so, what opening would suit? I'm thinking 4" by 4".

I have a set of doors on a shed that's west facing.

Anyway I'm looking for ideas on ways to prop the door when storms are forecasted. No concrete floor so I was thinking of welding a bracket halfway up the door to hold a length of 2 inch box and something flush with the ground that the box fits into.

I made this one last year Patsy and its got a lot of use since, I went with 8 inch circular openings, I'd say 4 inch openings like you were planning will be too small ( difficulty in calves pulling out straw) I'd say, they're a handy and cheap straw feeder in fairness, am going to make a few more

Thanks p dogg. A bit late as I had it cut already. I went with 120x120 mm square holes. I cut the corners first with a 20mm hole-cutter.

Now the reason for such a large cut-out at the top is, I got these barrels for free. They were originally a duck pond of some sort. They were thrown to one side for a while so might as well use them.

Little Honda Generator here got us out of trouble for the few days with no electricity, but it was getting hard to start and stalled a few times. It went to the in-laws after as they still have no power and died/refused to start and pull cord is on last few threads. Old air filer had serviced 2007, written on it so it's been around for a while.

Full service kit from Amazon cost me €34.73, No issues starting now, it wasn't even worth properly diagnosing the issue for the price. It was obviously fuel or spark related but all possible components were in the kit. Ordered and deliver within 2 days.

My preference would be your patsy simply because it's got a bottom in it.

    Good job 👏

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49 p dogg

There is a bottom in it k.k.man, it'd be a pointless bit of kit if there wasn't, I cut a 40 mm slot in it to allow it slide down over a gate so two separate pens of calves can have access to straw 😉,

Would something like this work. It would take some force to push a tractor, even on loose ground

Storm Darragh in December made bits of my roller shutter door in the workshop, only installed 2 and half years ago. After having to replace all the slats I was sickened, with the storm warnings last week and how severe they were predicting it to be I had to take action, I used 3 bits of 40 by 40 box that slot into one another and to the tracks each side of the door top and bottom, it held up last Friday thank fxxk!!! It can be put up and taken down in minutes, roller shutter doors are handy but it doesn't take much to damage them either!!! Hope this gives you some ideas SCOL

There is an oil switch on those Honda generators. If the oil level is low they cut out. To check the oil put on a level surface screw out the oil stick( there us one at each side) now place it back in with screwing it in. There should be oil on the oil stick otherwise it's low. They rake 30W10 engine oil I think.

Look at the spark plug when you remove it I'd ot get where it sparks the engine is OK.

Those little honda generators are great yokes. I would not be replacing the carburetor unless it was a genuine Honda one. Really all you need is plug, oil and oil filter.

Did you roller door have the 'L' shaped wind locks on end of the slats to prevent them bursting?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,084 ✭✭✭kk.man

My mistake. How did you get the holes so round ?

I agree it's a great little engine, I did replace the oil and I'm aware of the oil sensor. I'm also fairly confident that the carb was the issue as is ran for a second with a squirt of Wd40. The spark plug was probably the only bit that was OK but the wires from the sensor and coil were looking a bit degraded and the off button hadn't worked in a decade and the pull cord was on it's last legs. I may keep the original carb and give it a good cleaning or buy an original if I still run into problems but for the money I think the kit was well worth it even if it only lasts half the time. Any way all replaced now and it starts first pull.

That Is great. The carburetor is themonly issue I have with the kit. Then again it can do no damage. If it fails to work just buy an OEM part for it. Have you got surge protection for it. I must get surge protection for mine to level the voltage out of it

There was an old small plastic round lid lying around and i just traced around it, drilled a hole big enough for the jigsaw blade to fit through and away I went

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,461 ✭✭✭emaherx

Yea, for the price of the kit and the fact everything looked to need a good overhaul, even if only lasts half as long as the original it would be value.

The recoil didn't fit, but I only needed the rope anyway.

I've no surge protection and wouldn't let them plug any of the expensive electronics in the house in to it, just the router (which belongs to the ISP) and an old TV that is destined for the recycling anyway. And of course the Fridge and Freezer, which wouldn't need as clean a supply

I plan on buying an LifePo4 Battery and inverter soon, which will achieve the same plus I can add a few solar panels, usually have a few spare in winter months anyway.

Not many ideas on Twitter so asking here instead - any idea how to get this hose onto this fitting? I tried boiling water to soften the hose but still couldn’t get it on

run of a die grinder or round file inside hose. bit of grease and tap in with plank of wood

Maybe a heat gun and jubilee clips afterwards ....

    Dip it in boiling water

Wash up liquid on fitting and inside hose

My suggestion is the same as the other lads, lots of lube on both barb fitting and inside of pipe after boiling the pipe end in water.

One thing though, is that screw cap on back to front or it me looking at it the wrong way?
