Favourite Death Scenes

I was thinking about some of my favourite death scenes from movies and was wondering if anyone has any they'd like to share? Here's a couple of mine:

    Batman Returns:
The Penguin - I saw this the other night and was reminded how great this scene is along with the awesome music in the background. Really made the character come across as sympathetic in the end.

    Braveheart:
William Wallace - Most people have probably seen this. I must say I still enjoy the "Freeeeddooommm!" line even though I've seen it loads of times at this stage.

    Terminator 2:
Terminator (the good one) - Suppose it could be argued it's not technically a death but I love the last moments as he's lowered down by Sarah and as then gives the thumbs up to John.

Anyone got any more that they particularly like?

There can only really be one choice here...Blade Runner.

    Hi,

    I agree on Terminator 2

My other favourite death scenes would be:
    1) The Wild Bunch: The final scene
    2) Cloverfield: Where he gets eaten at the end
    3) Raiders of the Lost Ark: Swordfighter vs. Indy
    4) Team America: When the 1st guy dies at the start...pure cheese!

Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan.

Always brings a tear to my eye. The acting is actually first rate, even from Shatner. The way
Spock tries to remain dignified throughout, straightening his uniform etc... but still walks into the glass because he is disorientated
    is heart breaking.

    Deep Blue Sea.
Samuel L. Jackson after the rousing speech.

    Beat me to it!

    Favourite would be;
    Robbie and Cecelia
in Atonement. always get's to me. :(
    Kevin Spacey in
    LA Confidential. A complete shock.
    Creasy
in Man on Fire. It's hinted at early on but still a great death scene.
Although, I'm not a huge fan of the film but King Kong's demise (Peter Jackson) makes me sad aswell.

Agreed about the Penguin's death. A fantastic scene made great by Danny Elfman's score.

    Agreed on all of those.

    Gran Torino -
Walt's death. I think everyone was expecting Clint to stick to form and go out all guns blazing. So it really knocks you for six.

    Mystic River -
Dave's death, it's so hard to watch due to the injustice of it all.

    Rocky 4 -
Creed's death. I don't care what anyone says, seeing that for the first time scared the **** out of me.

Have loads actually that I'll write more about later.. but the one that always comes to mind is:

LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring:
Always loved the death of Gandalf the Grey after the fight with the Balrog. He's hanging for his life and utters his final lines ("Fly, you fools!") before falling to his death. It's a pitch perfect scene - Frodo screams and Shore's glorious music comes in, Aragorn tries to get everyone out while arrows fly around their heads.
It's an incredible scene to be honest!

Forgot the end scene in American History X. Ed Norton did brilliantly in that final scene.

Yeah, because why would you come into a thread about favourite death scenes and expect not to be spoiled? And I don't think I gave anything away either, I gave no specifics.

    Shawshank Redemption
when Brooks Hatlen dies. His whole story after getting released, then him hanging himself with 'Brooks was here' etched into the rafter was unreal

Sowwy! (though we didn't say who dies so it's still worth a watch!)

See previous posts for examples on how you should have done it, and you were specific enough to give it away the movie and actor who played the character.

The thread is very broad so i doubt anybody posting in here has seen EVERY movie, so do the right thing and just slap a spoiler tag on, it isnt that hard to do.

I hear Cloverfield is crap but would have watched it on telly, now I get part of the ending handed to me by you.
    thanks

I swear me and my mate were laughing uncontrollably for about ten minutes after this happened. giggling about it now.

    Rob Roy:
Tim Roth's character getting a bloody good sword through him after Neeson holds onto the sword. very vicious and straight to the point

    Bright Eyes in Watership Down.

/Sorry, I've got something in my eye...

    or

That one in Saving Private Ryan where the German slowly overpowers the Yank and shoves the bayonet right up through his chest all the while shushing him like a baby as he dies.

Certainly the most disturbing one I can remember.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,067 ✭✭✭L31mr0d

    Well theres the
ending of the mist, I thought the kid did a great job of displaying fear in his eyes, the kind of fear you imagine a person shows when they know they are going to die

and of course this scene also:

One that always springs to mind for me
is Brundle flys death at the end of Cronenbergs remake. The way it looks at Geena Davis and then aims the gun at its own head.Such a poignant scene.

There's an alternate ending on the DVD extras where he goes into the main bosses home, but he's wired with C4 and blows the whole compound up, but as the director said in the intro to that scene, "that was the end of a different movie"

    Some of my favourites:
    Jaws :
    Quint
    Salem's Lot :
When the Master breaks into the jail cell (the first time we see him - scared the shyte out of me when I saw it first)
    .
    Alien:
    John Hurt
(Ridley Scott, Tony ("Man On Fire") Scott's Brother)
    Thelma and Louise:
    Thelma and Louise
(oddly enough, another Ridley Scott :))

Ah someone beat me to the Saving Private Ryan suggestion.

    Also in SPR:
Barry Peppers death getting blasted by a tank in the clocktower, legendary character really. Also his shot through the lens at the German sniper

Other memorable one that come out of the blue which were hilarious at the time:

    Executive Decision:
    Segal!!! lol
    Collateral:
Mark Ruffalo having finally found Jamie Foxx and believed him.
    Daylight:
    Viggo Mortenson's "adventurer"!

I've heard Marley and Me is a heartbreaker as well!

    Die Hard 1:
Hans slow-mo fall from John's view, then the switch to the view of him falling to his death at normal speed from the cops view, classic
Most people have probably seen it but spoiler tagged just to be sure

    Serenity:
Wash getting speared in the chest by the Reavers, out of nowhere! "I am a leaf on the wind, watch how I"....smash, squelch, dead. All the more shocking as you think that Book's death means no more major characters can die. I really gives the impression that they can fail

    Kocoum's death

    Bambi
    Bambi's mother's death
    Saddest moment ever

Not trying to be different here but it jumped straight into my head when I read the thread title. Electra Glide in Blue has a stunning ending with a death scene to remember. Great movie if you haven't seen it.
