For the graduation itself or for the grad ball? Really it depends on teh event, where it's being held, who's going etc. I've been to lots of uni balls in my time and they really do vary from event to event.

Playing it safe, you can't really go wrong with a full-length formal dress though, with casual hair and makeup. At worst you look naturally pretty without being underdressed, at best you look amazing if slightly overdressed!

the graduation it'self i really don't have a prob with it's more the ball. ive a nice pair of trousers to wear and will just get a nice jacket.

Yep, well then a long formal dress is the way to go, and you can't go wrong with black either. If I were you, I'd be checking out the likes of Coast, Monsoon, Principles, Zara, Pamela Scott, House of Fraser, Debenhams, Roches, Clery's...

If you explain to the sales assistants what the event is, they're generally really helpful in telling you what the usual thing is to wear.

I'd add Fran & Jane to that list - less chance of somebody else wearing same outfit.

Ooh yeah, Fran and Jane are nice if you're able to splash out!

I wore a knee-length silk dress from Monsoon for my graduation. That was in UCD. You need to suss out what your friends are wearing, in case you are over/under dressed.

I got mine on a budget, charity shops all the way. If you're similarly placed I know Oxfam on Georges st. have a wedding department, perhaps they'll have some nice bridesmaids frocks.

Capital letters would be a fantastic start! They are so "in".
