See what you think of this. Personally i fully agree and more. Im delighted to see the back of him from a premier league and not because i dont support Man Utd, but simply because i always maintained he was a prick. i even watched interviews with him where he spoke of himself in the third person. But what do you think of the article?

I think it should have been posted in the C.Ronaldo gone thread, the United thread, or even the Real Madrid thread (if we have one).

He has a long way to go in the third-person stakes before he gets to Andrew "For me, it's all about what's right for Andrew Cole" Cole level.

The boy does have time on his side though.

What did she want, burning efforgies? It's Man United not Leeds.

Very bitter and very twisted article.

Maybe the fans realise that when a big named player leaves, Ferguson usually fills the void with success.

When Eric Cantona retired the supporters were inconsolable. The same when Roy Keane moved on. The sales of Jaap Stam, Ruud van Nistelrooy and David Beckham were greeted with dismay, Andrei Kanchelskis and Paul Ince’s departures resulted in more than a few tear-stained pillows.

Ronaldo? Not the same. A more than splendid cameo in the club’s history – his goals tally is astonishing – but a cameo is all it was. Old Trafford was only ever going to be a stop-over on this ego-trip.

True, they sang his name, but rarely with the same affection as they laud Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs or Nemanja Vidic, players, they sense, who genuinely feel honoured to play for the club. (Although Vidic’s complaints about life in Manchester suggest he might be following Cristiano to Spain any day soon.)

    very true

Cantona, Keane, Beckham, van Nistlerooy.... all players the United fans did not really expect to be leaving when they did.

Look at the fan reaction last season, it is more apparent from those reactions that many didn't want him to leave. At this point, we have had another season to get used to the idea that he was likely to leave, so his leaving is not shocking or ground breaking. We were more prepared for the exit so as it was not a surprise, really, it is easier to get over and look to the future from.

Everyone accepts hes one of the best players in the world. Its his whole tantrums/big ego/only caring about himself thinking hes bigger than the club thing that has cause many united fans to be glad to see the back of him.

How does anyone know what he's like? The poster, and everyone else's, views of Ronaldo are formed from what they see when they watch him play. Diving, flailing arms, tantrums, etc.

What the hell are you talking about? what interviews have him coming across as a prick?

From what I have read, people who have met Ronaldo on nights out have found him to be very nice, approachable and likable. He is arrogant on the pitch, but your own pitch persona is not a complete reflection of who you are in real life. I'll never really understand people who hate Ronaldo personally, when in aspects away from football he has never really done anything wrong. He doesn't get arrested for attacking people, you don't see pics of him drunk off his face before or after big games, you don't hear about him insulting people out and about who "don't know who he is" (King). Seriously, who many stories have you read where he has done something really prickish? Such as flying the tsunami victim to manchester? Paying for the ametuer footballers medical bills? What an a-hole alright.

Or alternatively I have heard many anicdotes that he is one of the most approacable "superstars".

Even Roy Keane saying lately he was a top bloke.

Well then say he acts a prick on the field, very different to calling someone an actual prick.

Ronaldo does many many interviews. And its fair to say that you get a good feeling of what a person is like from them.

Anyways I dont have time to get stuck into a quoting match back and forth. If you think hes sound you think hes sound.

All im saying is from his actions on the pitch withtantrums etc, to clearly wanting out of the club to thinking hes a god is that I generally think hes not a nice person.

I thought that would have been implied from the post. Generally when posters label a footballer x, y, z it is based on what they have seen of them on the pitch.

Well, it has been changed to call him 'not a nice person', which in no way implies that it is confined to the football pitch, but encompasses him in 'real life' where the poster has no knowledge of him. But sure, a couple of interviews are enough for that.

I'd love to know what interview he is talking about. I don't buy that wanting to move to Madrid makes him 'not a nice person' either to be honest.

I wouldn't agree to this especially in the celebrity culture we live in today. Depends on the poster though.

A bunch of people saying he is despite never having met him and having, as far as I can tell, nothing but what he does on the pitch to base an opinion on how he is as person when socialising with friends and family? Wow, how freaking useful and insightfull that poll would be.

Yeah I shouldnt of called him that I changed it pretty quickly but boards moves fast at times so people had chance to quote my post.

Obviously I dont know what hes like outside of football. But personally I cannot stand arrogance and the way Ronaldo has behaved I just have a general dislike to the fella.

I was only reading an interview he did today and some of the stuff he was saying. Its ok knowing your are one of the best, but do you really have to keep mentioning it in EVERY interview? Ill try and see if I can find it.

I think the artilce sums it up pretty well. I'm an avid Man U fan and visit old trafford regularly.

I was there for Ronaldo's first game of last season after the summers shennanigans over his supposed flirt with Real. I was probably the only Man U supporter in Old Trafford who refused to stand up and boo'ed constantly when he came on.

This year though, I noticed that slowly but surely the United fans were beginning to turn on him. The last game I went to was United Vs Porto and for most of the game Ronaldo got some sort of abuse from the United fans.

I have to say I'm glad to see the back of him - United's greatest players all wanted to play for united and when they did they played for the team. They would put their heart and sole into every game - that's what us fans love.

There's no doubting he has talent, but that doesn't make him a "great" player. It means he's talented. Would I have him in my top 11 in the world at the moment, absolutely not.

As a United fan, I don't think we'll miss him as much as other non-fans seem to think. Yes he's come up with goals at important times, but non-fans seem to forget, he played mostly as a striker, took all our penalities and most free-kicks (when he was on pitch).

At the end of the day - if you thought this years prem was exciting, next season could be even better! :)

This is a quote from an interview with CRonaldo from the weekend just gone, according to Eurosport...
"I love it when people jeer me. I love to see the hate in their eyes, to hear the insults. It doesn't bother me. It's true lots of people hate me but there are even more who love me and who support me. I feel bad only when I play badly. Fortunately, that rarely happens. I still have a long way to go. I really want to re-write the history of football. I am aware I'm already among the best of the best but I want to continue to write many more beautiful pages. I have nothing to envy Lionel (Messi) for. I don't compare myself to others. I am Cristiano Ronaldo - and I can win more medals than anybody else. I don't like to relax. The fans want to see a great Cristiano Ronaldo so I try to never disappoint."

"Takes more than that. Best, Law, Charlton, Robson, Cantona and Keane had one thing in common: they acknowledged they were blessed to play for United; Ronaldo believed United were blessed to have him."

That for me sums the man up in one line.

I always felt from the start of the year that he didn't look as if his heart was in it. Of course he picked up big time mid-way through the season but to be honest my opinion of him was that he was a world class player, but a class-less individual. I can put up with tantrums and arguments if the player genuinely loves the club and the fans and that feeling is reverberated. But that never seemed to be the way with him.

At the end of the day no player is bigger than the club. The players mentioned in the article have come and gone with the feeling of "who are we going to get to replace them?" and we've always come back stronger.

    Your obviously easily baffled.

The thread was started to see what people thought of a specific article that was written about the soccer player called Christiano Ronaldo (It has recently emerged that he is to be bought by another club called Real Madrid, they are from Spain;)), and to see the views of other football fans to see if they agree with the points made in the article or not.

Is that a bit better for you?

    No it's still retarded.

Do you know how many articles are written about soccer players every day?

Do you know we already have a United thread, a Madrid thread and at least one large Ronaldo thread on the front page of the forum?

I am baffled by the fact that you think there are any fans at all who will skip over those threads while stopping off here to give an opinion. It's just a stupid thread tbh.

eh, why would I do that when the TEAM I support scored? Don't be silly....

Your post is the typical stupid response that always makes me think twice about posting an opinion in the soccer forum.

Real supporters are happy to acknowledge the good and bad in their team. If they're not happy about it, they should speak out. Not sit on the fence as supporters like you would be happy to do. Now that's inexcusable...

Whatever people think about Ronaldo, his importance to United's success should never be questioned and he will be a massive loss to United. Fergie has to invest the money gained well, to make up for the loss.

That article is similar to what i think with some exceptions.

I won't miss him and didn't love him because it was obvious that he didn't want to be playing for us. That was my only really big problem with him.

I didn't mind his self obsession and arrogance in football. It added to the colour of his character - sort of anti hero type.

He seems to be a sound enough, normal fella outside of football - so thats cool.

    /My two cents
