Put the good wine in the fridge ffs.. anyone who drinks Buckfast or Devil's Bit really isn't picky about the temperature of their beverage..

I'm sick of going bringing home warm dusty bottles of white wine and having to put them in the freezer.

Also, I went into Dunnes today for a roll, asked the guy behind the counter had he any granary rolls and was told 'no only white'.. So off I sauntered down to the bakery, where, sure enough, rows and rows of granary rolls..

So I skipped back to the deli with my prize under my arm, delighted with myself, handed it to a different assistant who asked me quizically 'what I wanted him to do with it' choking back the first answer that came into my head I instead asked him to fill it with with deli, he then asked me 'what do you want on it?' I told him chicken, lettuce and mayo, he then turned to his colleague and asked 'are we allowed to do that?' ??

Turns out they're not allowed to fill granary rolls, they're not even given a price list for them incase they're tempted to fill a granary roll.. He told me me knew it was stupid and all that but he 'wasn't going to RISK it'

It has occured to me there may be a price difference but surely they can factor that in when weighing and pricing the f*cking thing??

So I went away with my tail between my legs and my belly empty... So there ya go, don't ask them to fill granary rolls for you as the universe may implode.. Or something..

    Rant over.

Buckfast people dont go home turn on the telly light a candle in recline into a plush leather chair to sip on a 05 Sauvignion Blanc. They get out to the parking lot and they drink.

As for the rest you could have just bought chicken lettuce and mayo and taken it home. It would have given you something to do while you let your fancy wine get cold.

The cheapo stuff sells better/quicker in paces like Spar, that's why it's in the fridge.

The deli thing is about work practices and systems they have in place. It'd be the same as you buying a sliced pan and handing them two slices and asking them to make you a sandwich.

That pisses me off too. The do keep a small chiller, but there isn't enough variety of the chilled wine.

Firstly, cool tempretures are not reserved for wine drinkers only. If you don't like it, go elsewhere...

Secondly, did you ask him you wanted a filled roll when you handed the roll to him firstly? More than likely you didn't, like most customers, you expect staff to delve into your mind...

Thirdly, you complain to the wrong people, did you go to a manager and give him suggestions? Of course you didn't, you came home and bitched on an internet forum, well done... you may be in line for the darwin award...

Good job Spar guys! I once brought a roll into a Spar and got them to fill it up with deli and accidentally summoned the devil!

    Who p1ssed in your cornflakes??

I was handing him the roll with full intentions of telling him what I wanted him to do with it.. I've been to enough delis and witnessed enough people handing over brown rolls, small rolls, batch rolls etc and the assistant doesn't look at them like they have 20 heads, but simply asks 'what do you want on it?'.. It's pretty simple really..

And as for going somewhere else for the wine, it's the same story in most of the places around where I live, they put the cheap sh*te in the fridge and leave the decent stuff out on the shelves..

    :)

It's not the poor Deli workers fault that he couldn't fill it. Blame the managers; most of them are right knobs in Dunnes.

Its the managers fault, any decent spar has about 4 or 5 options to choose from all at the deli counter.

As for the wine, most people dont have it chilled spars or otherwise in my experience. The beer drinkers probably want to drink it straight away, where the person buying the wine i sgoing home to put it in the fridge.

Why couldn't you just have a white roll ffs?

I know yeah, I could have waited around to speak to a manager but sure what's the point, the policy is in place and I find it ridiculous, which is why I'm pointing it out.. speaking to a manager isn't going to change the fact that somewhere along the lines, somebody in their infinite wisdom decided that granary rolls should not be filled at the deli..

yeah I know that's the rule but if I was in the deli I would have made it for you. like what difference does it make? wrap it up and then put the white roll sticker on it

You should have kicked up a fuss. I'm sure they would have done it for you if you had threatened to rip off their granary rolls

They stock wines in most reasonable price ranges, including €50 bottles of Champaign etc.. I know it's not Don P but us mere mortals do like a nice cold drink weather you think we deserve it or not..

Wow buckfast in a fridge I've never seen that. It's usually behind the counter and you have to go home and stick it in the freezer if you want it cold
