Shouldn't a routine get easier?

I've been doing a free weights workout for the last 5 weeks. Nothing like what most are doing here, I'm really just starting out. 4/5kg weights and 20Kg machine weights.
Shouldn't it get easier by week 5 so you can progress to heavier weights?
I don't feel I could move up to heavier weights yet. For example, the next size weights are either 6 or 7.5 Kg.

What exactly are you doing with them? Most will dramatically improve at first. Are you taking breaks to recover between workouts? i.e. starting out you might do 2-3 full body workouts per week with at least 1 day rest between them.

I would avoid machines too, stick to free weights.

You say you don't feel you could move up the weight, but have you tried? You may surprise yourself.

3 x 10 reps of dumbells of a variety of weights up to 5kg.
Machines up to 20Kg for legs.

TBH, no I haven't tried as by rep 30 I'd be close to failure. I'd never get another 10 in.

As you increase the weight just lower then rep count and increase the number of sets you're doing.
