    Team announced:

IRELAND 'A' TEAM & REPLACEMENTS (v Georgia, 2009 Churchill Cup, Infinity Park, Glendale, Colorado, Sunday, June 14, kick-off 3.30pm local time/10.30pm Irish time):

    15 - Felix Jones (Old Belvedere/Leinster)
    14 - Simon Keogh (Old Belvedere/Leinster)
    13 - Fergus McFadden (UCD/Leinster)
12 - James Downey (Northampton Saints)
    11 - Johne Murphy (Leicester)
    10 - Niall O'Connor (Belfast Harlequins/Ulster)
    9 - Frank Murphy (Buccaneers/Connacht)
    1 - Cian Healy (Clontarf/Leinster)
    2 - Denis Fogarty (Cork Constitution/Munster)
    3 - Tony Buckley (Shannon/Munster)
    4 - Trevor Hogan (Blackrock College/Leinster)
    5 - Donnacha Ryan (Shannon/Munster)
6 - Neil Best (Northampton Saints)
    7 - Niall Ronan (Shannon/Munster)
    8 - John Muldoon (Galwegians/Connacht) (capt)

    Replacements:

    16 - Sean Cronin (Buccaneers/Connacht)
    17 - Bryan Young (Ballymena/Ulster)
    18 - Devin Toner (Lansdowne/Leinster)
    19 - Chris Henry (Ballymena/Ulster)
    20 - Isaac Boss (Ballymena/Ulster)
    21 - Jonathan Sexton (St. Mary's College/Leinster)
    22 - Keith Matthews (Buccaneers/Connacht)

Looks a strong selection but again, why persist with Niall O'Connor when Sexton was clearly playing with alot of confidence and made an impact when he came on against canada. Also looking forward to seeing Felix Jones.
The game is being shown on Sky Sports 2.

Sexton has bigger things to come maybe? It is a development tour i think Kidney feels he already knows everything he wants to about Sexton from the HC possibly and is trying to develop other players while having him there to make sure it doesn't go to shit? Great to see Downey get a run and thank you God Hurley is nowhere to be seen :D

Is Jones the one that's going to Munster in September or is it a different guy?

Same guy. He's class, and a Munster player now :(

In fairness though, how many players do Leinster have at their disposal in the back 3? Especially full back. He was never going to get his chance.

I think that's sh*t about Sexton. Develop your best players.....especially if you want to ease them into international rugby with Ireland A first.

O'Connor has been very average all season, shocking that Sexton isn't getting game time as first choice for the A's.

Excellent to see Healy starting. Really excited about his international career. Pity about Sexton, but I'm sure he'll get 80 mins soon enough!

Same Jones yes. Good player actually.

Agree re Sexton. We know we have 2 viable OH's so might aswell see if we have another potential option for the future by giving him gametime now. Sexton will be in 22 for AI's anyway.

Downey is a good player and while I don't trust Hurley have to be fair and he say he wasn't so bad last week. Bit of credit but still defo not an international FB...would question if he'll be with Munster beyond this season anyway as it looks like Jones signing will push him back to playing for Con each week and not even in ML 22's.

Kidney has given two games to Kealtley now two games to NOC and will probably finish with giving the rest to Sexton.

I don't see what the problem is OH is a major worry position for us so why not try out all the viable options and see if we discover a jem. Plus it's Georgia ffs it's going to be a handy victory playing Sexton is pointless, this allows NOC to get alot of confidence which will help him in his development.

Thought something was weird, no O'Brien. Seems he's gone home with a knee injury. Very tough for him.

remember the last time we played Georgia, we were lucky to win with a full strength team

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,352 ✭✭✭funky penguin

    Ugh, don't remind us! :P

To be fair, was 2 years ago and a completely different set of circumstances and coaching staff. Completely different team as well! :)

    Although, Georgia will remember!

Georgia +40 at 10/11 seems a decent wager tbh.

They can't be that bad. Are they missing their French based players?

    Bad miss there from O'Connor!

Look at how small the Georgian no. 6 is! He's tall but not very bulky!!

Georgia doing what they do best.

Pressue came on healy though that lead to that try he popped up due to the pressure. Funny how someone can survive White and Castraogivania and then gets completely man handled by a semi pro

Why do they have to have the Churchill Cup in North America?

It would be cool to have it in Ireland and have all the Ireland A games at TP.

The whole idea is to develop rugby in the US and Canada and to get it more exposure.

Its a shame too because he's moving the backs around quite well.

When you look up the word verbal diarrhea you'll see a picture of Mark Robson.

Decent first half. I would maybe have liked to see McFadden take the last few kicks as O'Connor is having a really bad day with the boot. Sexton on in the second half and it should be done and dusted.

Georgian semi-pros. Doing better than the first team did in 07. :pac:

Wonder what a full Georgian team could do?

Scrum and maul some more. They have some handy players who are quaility id say they could match the likes of the USA Tonga Canada etc but wouldn't pose a threat against us UNLESS the team suddenly shrank and decided they didn't like playing against big teams.
