The Mustang bridge on this page (on the right) will work.

What strings do you have on there? The bridge has awful problems with light strings. Stick some 12s on and much of the trouble will be sorted. You could also shim the neck and raise the bridge up to match it, which will make the tension over the bridge greater, and sharpen the angle the strings make over the bridge, which'll sort out a lot of the trouble. From my experience, both of these ideas combined will sort it.

The mustang bridge would probably the best option, but if you don't want to immediately fork out for a new bridge, you could try that.

Well, the best option would be the Mastery Bridge, but they're expensive and there's a waiting list and all...

Oh Dord, it's the same bridge as the one on my Jagstang. Although it's grand, sometimes I've had troubles with it too... Mostly the strings pop out when I play heavy...

Any other kind of bridge (sturdy) would be an option? I don't mind paying a bit of money for it.

    thank u!

    Hi Lauren,

Thank you for your interest! We're approximately 3-5 weeks backordered, but I will put you on our waiting list and let you know when your bridge will be ready to order. I'll be in touch then.

    Best,

Apparently it allows you to set your action perfectly, intonate 100% accurately, eliminate all buzz, and solve world hunger.

You know, Dord, I think there was a hint of sarcasm in my last post. Unless, of course, a new guitar bridge can solve world hunger...

You could just take out your JM bridge and drop the Mastery in...

    is it that easy?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,034 ✭✭✭rcaz

It's literally as simple as taking it out and putting it in. The JM bridges are held into the body by the tension of the strings, if you take the strings off, the bridge will just fall right out. So then you slide your Mastery Bridge in, it'll fit perfectly. Put the strings on, do your action and intonation, and you're sorted. You'll have it done in a few minutes.

i recently bought a black pickguard to replace the white pearloid one on the jazzmaster I bought. The pearloid is pretty cool, but I have a thing for black pickguards. The tort one, to me, was way too expensive, and it would have been a toss up between black and tort so I went for black. I got a mustang bridge so will post pics next week when she's up and running hopefully

I'd love to hear your opinion on the Mustang bridge! Thinking of getting one, since I'll be replacing my CIJ vibrato system with an AVRI one. I figured I might as well get a new bridge too, as the JM is starting to smooth out on the saddles. I wish I could afford the Mastery, but not quite just yet.

i bought it used, I've been looking for one for ages, and I think I found "the one". I dunno how many guitars I bought and sold, there was always something with them, but this is "the one" for me. I even manage to play cool stuff on it when I pick it up. I'm in love with it!! :D:D:D

ordered a mustang bridge myself there last week. The Jaguar bridge is just awfull, The bloody grooves barely allow the low E to sit in them comfortably which is dramatically effecting its sustain. Was ok with the flatwounds but with roundwounds it's pants.

Stuck the mustang bridge on last night. It has made quite a difference to the sustain on the low e ang g strings, especially in the higher registers. A well reccomended upgrade.

Could you let me know how this works out. The Bridge issues were the only thing stopping me getting a Jazzmaster.

If that's the only thing stopping you, then have a look here. It really isn't difficult to set it up properly and have it playing beautifully with stock parts.

i must post up a pic of my upgraded jazzie this weekend. a quick Q on the electrics. The switch at the top left of the body, when I flick this up, the volume/tone/and pup selector switches seem to shut off. The sound doesn't cut, it just seems to bypass the tone/volume/pup selector. when i switch it again, they all seem to work. Is this a wiring problem, sounds like it to me, or is that what the switch is supposed to do. I never really looked into what the switch is for...

Something similar in terms of materials used has come available in tunematic.

    http://www.callahamguitars.com/index.html#whats_new

AFAIK this has also has brass saddles on a steel base and with steel posts.

That switch toggles between the rhythm and lead circuits (Jazzmasters have twice as many electrical components as, say, a Tele, because they have two circuits.)

When it's in the lead position, you can choose your pickups with the pickup selector, and use the normal volume and tone knobs to adjust your tones. When in the rhythm position, the neck pickup is selected, and you use the two rollers next to the switch to adjust volume and tone.

You could turn the volume on the rhythm circuit all the way down and use the switch as a kill switch if you wanted, which is was I did before I broke the switch

ah, ok, that makes sense to me now. I thought the wiring was dodgy or something.

The switches at the top left of the body act independently from those on the bottom, so yeah (wheel turns in head..) when I have the top switches selected, if I hit the pup switch, volume, or tone nobs below, nothing happens, yes, it makes sense....

Such a lovely sound off the guitar though...so sweet...(curtis novak pups..)

I agree. I still have stock Japanese pickups in it (which aren't very JM accurate, I know), but I'm just after looping two chords with no other effect apart from the looper, and playing some hip hop drums along to it, and it just sounded so... Right!! All those Gibson fans are missing out :p

Actually, there was a very strong De La Soul vibe from the session :p

Seeing as the bridge and the posts are made of steel (as opposed to zinc and brass respectively, you should also be able to hear quite a difference as well)

It should be a rocking product. A little on the pricey side, but as soon as you hear it and experience the benefit, you won't look back.

    Yo yo yo!!

yeah the mastery bridge's deadly! Sorry it took me so long to get back to yis. Been too busy playing :P

It came in a lovely metal box stuffed with straw. In the little fabric bag there was my mastery bridge (heavy little thing!), a second set of mounting posts (larger than the one fitted on the bridge itself - i had to specify my JazzM was japanese made), and 3 different sizes of Allen keys.

    Image008.jpg

Installation is super easy, but it took me a while to set the intonation right.
The strings dont buzz anymore and it just feels more sturdy in general.
    Im a happy chappette :)

Sorry I dont have more pics. My phone died in the meantime so i've no way of taking pics at the mo...

    L. xx

Sorry to revive a thread from the dead, but I put a Mastery onto my JM yesterday and have to agree with all that's been said above.

No more shimming the posts to prevent them moving, much more solid, no buzzing, overall the guitar plays better and sounds more pleasant to the ear.

I gave a Mastery as a present to a friend of mine who owns a bunch of vintage JMs and Jags. He is really enjoying the benefits it has brought to the guitar he installed it on (a 62 JM) and is planning to buy more.

I also installed one of these today on my JM

Cool mod, does what it says on the tin.
