I'm listening to the FM104 Phoneshow, and they're talking about exam candidates getting rewards for good results. I've assumed that I'm getting something, and my parents have said they will give me a couple of hundred euro.

Everyone I've been talking to are getting around the same. On the show, there was a girl who has already got a VW Golf 09 (LC) and one said his parents outright refused to get him anything.

    Is anyone here getting anything?

Well...for the Junior Cert, the 103 Euro to pay for the exams.
For the leaving cert, if it goes well, I'll be getting a university degree and some living expenses paid for 4 or 5 years.
Parents who try to bribe their children with cars for example into success must be insanely rich and insanely stupid. You'd think sending them to university or college would be enough.

Then again, it's not like I'd complain if I got a car... :P

My parents haven't said anything about giving me anything, then again I don't think I will deserve anything :P

For my JC parents have told me any C I get means I pay them €20 :(

Thats crazy anyone getting a VW Golf 09 for just doing a damn LC without even getting their results back.

I get nothing except a month of quiet, I get bad grades I get constant complaints from my parents about how my standard has slipped and it doesn't stop until the next exam. My parents expect me to get 600 points in my leaving cert or atleast something over 570 points.

ffs like, Then again my parents did promise me if I did well in my LC I would get a car(Back in 1st year). Doubt it somehow :p

Maybe a toy car? Who knows, you might get a BMW 5 Series.

Yeah, my teachers told my parents they expect "bright things" but they still ain't budging until mid-September.

I can't see myself getting loads though, but who would be complaining about getting an insured and taxed 09 car for a few weeks of exams? I'd probably feel bad on my parents. It wouldn't even be worth robbing a back, the way the country has gone :( . . .

My mam's taking me to London at the end of June as a kind of end-of-exams holiday thing, i.e. she's going to buy me loads, says she'll see what my results are before she decides on getting me anything. My friend is getting €50 for every A and €25 for an A or a B, her parents will be cleaned out!

I'm getting Sims 3 tomorrow during lunch so I can play tomorrow night!
    Can't wait!
    Tomorrow's my last day!

And it's awful that that person got a car for doing her LC.
What kind of parents do that?

I'd be happier with what I'm getting!
    :)

    Plus I'm getting new clothes!

    personally, I prefer the edge!

And for every A that I'm getting, I get half a bicycle

    Brilliant :)

A ****ing new Golf?:eek:Don't even like them but JESUS!!!

My father will more than likely get me somethin. Didn't say anything but I don't really expect anything.

Umm, no... They don't hassle me over exams and studying and leave me to do whatever I want, and in return I don't require them to bribe me like a five year old... people will want to do well in their exams themselves if left to it, parents who are basically threatening their kids to well and giving them things for higher marks won't get anywhere and are completely defeating the purpose of these sort of exams.

A celebratory present or something at the end is one thing, but bribing with a car or something for a few As is just ridiculous.

Wouldn't killing all rich people just turn all the middle class into the rich? And the poor to the middle class  It'd be useless...Nice thought though :pac: Getting a car for doing the LC is ridiculous:confused:

wow ... i didn't realise that people get such big presents and bribes to do well in the junior cert. i studied hard for the exams because i wanted to well for myself ... not for money or possesions.

afterwards though my mam and dad said that they are going to get me something because i tried so hard ... they only mentioned that to me though once the exams were over. and its not bribery

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 903 ✭✭✭bernardo mac

In my day it was the Inter.Cert.Came home from exam, was fed quite well, then asked/told to cut the grass, was told "well done" on both counts and given a few shillings for the cinema. No fuss,no complaints..happy with that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 121 ✭✭6stringmaniac

My mom said she'd give me €100 for every A I get... I didnt argue:D

She clearly doesnt know about CSPE. She also said I'd have to pay her for a C/D, but I'm fairly sure she was joking

I got a bike a while ago but I'm not sure if that counts because I needed it on account of living in the middle of nowhere with parents at work all day and no possibility of getting a driving licence any time soon... Damn the age limit.

:pac: I know a girl who is getting a thousand euro if she gets fairly decent grades in the junior cert.
My cousins got a car and then didnt bother saying thank you, ruined my chances. I dont mind though I want good grades for myself :D

    I got nothing for mine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 747 ✭✭✭skyscraperblue

My parents just kind of assume I'm going to do well. They did their Junior in the days when it was the Inter Cert - and they had to do Group Cert too. So they're kinda out of the loop with this kinda stuff.

I do have friends whose parents are gonna give them €100 for an A in Honours Maths but don't care about anything else. Luckyluckylucky

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 903 ✭✭✭bernardo mac

Considering the material rewards today, think I'll go back to school...then again who's gonna be the patron?By the way ,the Dept.of Ed.believe in encouraging Junior Certs so they're generous in the grades' area. The L.C.is a different ball game though.Happy pickings!

I am just after doing most of my exams and I worked very hard to get good grades and I hope I will get them.Anyway,in my school, people are getting 50 euro for every honour etc. and other peopl getting 600-700 just for passing everything.Personally I find this ridiculous because these people did not put any effort into their exams and do not deserve to b rewarded.I myself am not looking for any rewards, just the reward of the fact I trie hard and done my best without any bribes.

Jeese in Leaving Cert. now, and don't remember ever getting anything for my junior. By the rates loads of you are paid, I'd have been rolling in it!
The most I'm getting even for the Leaving Cert. is a new phone, and to be honest I'm delighted!
I do have a car already (my sister paid for it herself, and gave it to me when she upgraded. It was not a bribe, it's so I can drive to college next year.), but I would feel soo guilty if my parents gave me one for exams. Your not doing it for the money or the presents, it's about being happy yourself.
