Kinda messed up the last question on International Relations cause I never (like... ever) looked over the note on the road t o European Unity. All I remembered was Benelux. ¬_¬

Overall I think it was an okay paper :)

Thought it was a really unfair spread of the curriculum. 80% was Irish history, which most people chose not to study.
The reformation in 6A would really put off people who were looking forward to Renaissance, which didnt come up at all on the paper. It's such a lovely topic and i was so disappointed it didn't come up, i knew it so well..

History higher level was excellent!! The plantations on question 5 were a bit tricky but question 6 was great. Reformation and International relations :D two chapters I know like the back of my hand :) There were no really disasterous questions and I finished with plenty of time so I'm pretty delighted with it :pac:

Thought it wasnt too hard overall but I didnt get any of the (c)s in Q6.
Predicted the essays and spent the morning revising them:D
    Hoping for a B

I thought that it was went surprisingly well for me, considering History's my worst subject ever in the history of the universe. Wrote like a page on a Roman slave for People in History, and a page and a half on Columbus. Did the Reformation and WWII for Q6. I wrote like a paragraph of rubbish on the Korean War..

    Overall, I think I deserve a C, even though I got 46% in my Mock. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,962 ✭✭✭jumpguy

The higher level paper was sweeeeeeet! I'd predicted Cumann na nGael and Sean Lemass would come up in the Irish history and they did!!! Cuban missile crisis came up in International Relations. It was niiiiiiice. I'd say I got 100% in question 6 but you never know so I'd probably lost 3 or 4 marks.

I was side-swiped in question 5 because I wasn't too pleased that plantations came up. Was the relgious change in Northern Ireland from Catholic to Protestant due to the Treaty of Mellifont?

Question 4 was nice too. Ancient civiliasation came up...I wrote down nearly 20 points. A voyage in the age of explorations was great because it came up in my mock. I did Columbus. 100%

    Question 3 was easy.

Question 2 was alright. Document one was odd for history but it was grand.

Question 1 was okay aswell. The second picture of grainy and ****e. Hope I'll get the A.

I agree, in the short answer questions there must have been 7 questions on that section alone. It also came up as part of a document, and a part of the pictures. It's really unevenly, and unfairly distributed.

get over it, you didn't study everything and now its THEIR fault once again.
i don't know about you but we were clearly told that the paper is always weighted by third year material. Thats why we do it in third year - so its fresh in our heads.

For a reason in the sources question
    q. Why did britain win the battle of britain?
and knowing me of course, i didnt study ANY of that war part so i just decided to write down anything since I was desperate..
A, the battle of britain was won because it was called after themm hence, the battle of "britain"..

    HOW STUPID AM I!!!!!!!!!

    I thought it went fine.
This exam was the one I was worrying about the most so I'm pretty happy it went well for me.
People in history questions were loveleeey xD
And the rest of the paper was okay enough
..but did anyone else find the short questions were harder than usual??

Would you chill out telling them to get over themselves, let them say what they like. Its an opinion site, their opinion was that they didnt like 80% of the questions were on a certain subject. Its only the junior cert dont take sucha hissy fit

I remember In the mocks I wrote about the Korean war and instead of saying Douglas mcArthur wanted to bomb china I said Douglas hyde wanted to bomb china by accident :pac: Part of me wants to think the examiner got a lol out of that:P
..but did anyone else find the short questions were harder than usual??

YEah they were. Only 1 international relations question  But still they weren't bad :P I answered 14...I'd say some were wrong though

I think it went well overall.
The documents and pictures were okay.
The short questions were unusually hard...But still okay.
The People In History was EXACTLY as I wanted it to be!...Got my painter and explorer!
    The Plantations were fine.
And the choices in the last section were good...:)
    So I think I did okay...Hoping for a B.

Short questions were impossible  Can usually get at least 14 or so right, was only sure on about 7 of those! Alot of the definitions weren't familiar with me.

Did okay though :) Happy with the Reformation, though wasn't sure about the Peace Of Augsburg, never heard of it  Also struggled banging out an eight-mark worthy account on Henry the eigth and the Jesuits, kind of went off-topic a bit.

Edit; Btw, who was the rebellion leader marked X? Knew zilch about Irish history so hadn't a clue, lucky I managed to kind of skip over it with all the choice.

How much did people write for the 8, 10, 12 and 20 mark questions?

    i wrote a page for 20, 3/4 for 12, 1/2 for 10 and slightly under 1/2 for 8 marks...

    I don't think i did enough....

Question 1 - I thought it was ok, I said X was Padraig Pearse because it said 'leader' and also he was turned to the side which you'll always find in pictures of him.

Question 2 - Thought the archaeology one was a bit random ..! But not too hard so it was ok.

Question 3 - I thought the first page of qs were ok, couldn't do 4 on the next page but I only went back to them at the end as I'd already done 10 and didn't wanna waste time.

Question 4 - Was fairly happy, I do Latin so all we ever do is Roman civilisation stuff all the time! Columbus was ok too.

Question 5 - Though the first picture of the plantation town with the ships was really badly blurry, especially because of the fact that they asked you a question which required you to see everything in it - 'From source E, give one piece of evidence to suggest that the town was well developed
    and wealthy
.' Also I'd only learned the consequences of the Plantations on an overall basis, so had to make up a bit to tailor it to the plantation I picked (Ulster).

Question 6 - I did Irish History and Int. Relations. Had kinda been banking on being able to do the first question, but I hadn't studied Calvin’s church in Geneva / Henry VIII and the Reformation in England / Ignatius Loyola and the Jesuits, so I couldn't do that question. For the paragraph on the Irish Free State, I just basically talked about achievements/failures of Cumann na nGaedheal, hoping that's ok?

Overall it was all right, I am so glad to have it over and done with! :D

The short questions were hard. Thank god we dont have to do all of them
I think I did okay. Hopefully get an A!

I found it overall a good exam, not great, good!
I found that the curriculum was not distributed enough and the Irish History section dominated the paper!
I hate to burst your little bubble of anger but i think a Renaisance artist from outside of Italy came up! Anyone who studied the renaisance well would have prepared that!
I answered all of the source questions quite well, I answered most of the short questions but i did find some hard!
I answered the question 5, I wrote like two pages for it, i think it may have been a little too brief!
I answered Social change and International relations, they were more successful that i would have imagined, i got about three pages on the first one and two for the later one! You needed to know your stuff and be quick and efficent!

Question four was good! I answered on a child in ancient rome and Christopher Columbus!
Good exam hope i get a C anyway!

    Really nice paper

Q1 was really strange I said parchment and ink as my answer

Q2 Was pretty normal, easy enough

Q3 was really weird this year, I usually can get all 20 questions fine, but only was able to be sure of 15, doesn't matter though

Q4 SWEET!! Did 2 pages on Ancient rome and 2 pages on columbus

Q5 Plantations I think I barely gave good answers on this question, only did 2 pages

Q6 Reformation and WW2, My 2 favourite chapters. I love reading about WW2 so I was able to write loads for the last few questions..

Im hoping for an A, B if im not that lucky.

I didn't think it was too bad, thought the short questions were a bit tricker then usual though, the rest was pretty fine, I was delighted with the very last question, the twentieth century thingy went really well for me and you didn't even have to have studied the social history to get it right, just have listened to your grandparents ramblings and you would have been fine :p

:pac::Dwel ought it went ok1 Documents n pics handy1 Was dat Patrick Pearse in da photo? people in history handy! Q5 went grand but Q6 went middlen/bad:mad: so overall Ithink a C/B! X was Padraig Pearse?! Yeeess! Pictures and Documents were grand, had to completely make up the Irish history questions though. Short questions were a bit weird, when I practised exam papers there'd always only be about 2 or 3 I didn't know but I barely got 10 in the exam, and the second page seemed to be nothing but Irish history. Essays were grand, though I was pissed that a revolutionary leader didn't come up. My Roman essay was good but the structure was kind of horrible because I kept remembering things and having to put them in randomly, Christopher Columbus was alright but I forgot my dates except 1452. Plantations could have been better. I didn't do as well for the reformation question as I should have because I didn't know what the Peace of Aufsburg was and I don't think my Calvin answer was long enough. Was delighted with International Relations, LOVE that section. And did anyone else think the paper was really like the pre?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20 qwerty4

Couldn't have asked for a better paper apart from Q 5.. Bulled my way through the last question on Q5.. And did all three so they'll take my best two.. People in Historys were brilliant :D Saw ancient civilisation and explorer and that was me sorted.. Didn't even bother reading the others! Ha.. Q 6 was brilliant.. Didn't think Cold War would come up seeing as it did last year but was still prepared  Very happy overall ;)

For question 6 I chose to do social change and political developments in 20th century Ireland.

In my account about the home rule crisis I called the Irish volunteer force the irb. However, the Irish volunteer force where under the command of the irb

The question was worth 12 marks. Any ideas in how many marks u would loose if any?

Social change is alot more harder to get marks than it's made out to be.You must be very careful with wording (such as saying most women stayed to work at home instead of ALL women), and the wording of the question, and make sure to refer to past and present in all points.
