Potential Apple Store in Dublin

    From http://www.ifoapplestore.com/db/2009/06/10/apple-scouting-dublin-for-bargains/
In the wake of the economic downturn, Apple’s retail real estate team is scouting Dublin (Ireland) to find the perfect space for a retail store. The Tribune newspaper reports that Apple has retained real estate advisors Jones Lang LaSalle to help locate about 6,000 square-feet, possibly on two levels. According to the newspaper, the scouting has focused on the former Dunnes Stores space at the top of Grafton Street, and the former Habitat store at the bottom of the street. Grafton is routinely rated among the Top 10 retail locations in the world–and among the most expensive to lease. The city-center, pedestrian-only street runs from St. Andrew’s Street to St. Stephen’s Green, and is represented by almost every upscale international retailer.

That would be awesome. Assume it would have the genius bar, or whatever it's called.

ye actualy forgot about those - for those perky random questions on my mind

twill come in handy for a lot of people - what happened to that mac shop near stephens green, it has an apple on the building and have never seen it open it could be years old now its on the 10 bus route

Nothing any more. They used to sell most Apple stuff but a few months ago dropped pretty much all Apple related items from their "Experience" stores...

Read about this yesterday and definitely hope it's true. Apple HQ is in Cork FFS and we don't have a "true" Apple store yet...

The one on Kildare St? That's been gone for years.

Yeah it used to be Compustore. I think they went bust in 2005. I thought I read something about that building going on the market recently. Some dispute or other prevented it before now.

The Dunnes building would be a great location for them, really hope they go for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,031 ✭✭✭johnk123

This better be true!! i agree with JBlk, like with the HQ in Cork we should surely be entitled to a store. Grafton St. would be a perfect spot I think and the Dunnes building would actually be perfect!

So how does one go about applying for a job? Just even as a SA, not necessarily a Genius. :)

heh, join the queue, I'd say.

Note the Belfast store is also 6,000 square feet, so the Dublin one would be similar in size if they decide to open.

It was part of Compustore but was shut down in 2004 - Towards the end the lazy feckers only opened it when they felt like it.

Looks like the Habitat Store has been turned down as it was too big:

If there was an Apple store, we would indeed be stepping away from our computers... To go to the Apple store :D.

So with spectra photos gone and o2 not doing apple products anymore..where do you buy your apple supplies? Like say.. a charger or battery if in need? Online of course, but can we not buy in store anymore?

Yes they do. Some PC World stores (or is it all of them now?) have a dedicated Mac section too...

Only Airside, Liffey Valley & Cork have an Apple employee at them. Jervis St. has an Apple desk but the person who mans it only works on weekends and is employed by an agency, not Apple.

They looked at and declined the Grafton Street (Disney are going there) and Suffolk Street (I know who's going in there but can't say at the moment) stores. They're looking for somebody who's willing to accept sfa rent in order to get a deal done.

If all you need is to buy an accessory or something, it really doesn't matter if there's an Apple employee there or not. I can't remember if Blachardstown and Carrickmines stock any Apple stuff at all though these days...

    This would be great

One of the issues about getting people to buy an APPLE is they rarely see them in operation

A store like that in Dublin with a genius bar and classes like they have in other Apple stores would really see sales soar

where did you hear this info about Apple rejecting the Grafton St. store.

Who's going into the suffolk store?

All I know is I WANT a genius bar. My working hours made it really hard to get repairs last time I needed them, and paying extra for pickup services is just irritating when Applecare already costs more here than in other countries.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,123 ✭✭✭stepbar

O holy god, they're about 5 years too late. Just because of falling rent, it doesn't mean it makes sense!

How in ever best of luck to them. The Apple stores I've been in (New York and San Fran) are truely a brilliant experience. Handy for the free internet!

Looks like the couple of Little Guy Apple repair stores might have to rethink their situation if this Apple Store goes ahead.

I heard on Monday (very reliable source) that they have someone on Grafton St, but it's a few months down the line.

From what I hear it will be around 2011 before it opens

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,762 ✭✭✭WizZard

It actually works out cheaper anyway to take a trip to Belfast these days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,204 ✭✭✭Kenny_D

Actually it doesnt. They've upped the prices in the UK to be in line with euro prices. It's actually cheaper to buy in euro.

£1599 in the UK for i5 = €1803 according to XE.com. This is the market rate and when you actually convert over your money you'll be paying €1820+

It's €1799 in the republic and you dont have to spend 2 hours driving to belfast if something ever goes wrong with it.

Apple will honor a warranty here, regardless where the Mac was purchased.

But I totally agree with the rest of your post, with the latest price adjustments, there is practically nothing to be gained financially by buying up north at this point.
