would love a new RS in snotty green and an Evo X in White!

tough choice to be honest, but i think i would pick the RS for the rareity (sp) factor.

Hmmm, tough one. I was going to say the Evo but after watching that, the new RS does look great.
I guess i'd have to drive to decide.

Tis a tough one all right.
A decision I will be making soon - Hopefully :)
I reckon it will be the RS in White for me though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,718 ✭✭✭.Longshanks.

To live with everyday, and if it was my own money it would be the Focus. It seems to have a nicer interior and as says the rareity factor would be nice....;)

I like Fifth Gear, not as good as TG, but ya know.

This is driving me nuts, god damn you, OP.
    I hate choice.:p

Yep it would be an order - or a second hand Evo X
I know there's a couple of months wait, maybe up to 5 months!
But it *should* be getting shorter.....

If they were the same price it would be a lot tougher choice
The Evo is about €20 K more here

Easy decision, FWD no thanks, Evo for me without a doubt.

Bad decision by Ford not making the RS 4wd I reckon it will put a lot of people off.

I'm 99.99% sure that that white EVO X was knicked and found again a few days later! There's a thread on it either somewhere here or on one of the other forums.

So the dude just wants rid of it because of the hassle of keeping it?

Probably explains the price tag, seems like a dead genuine ad

I was going to comment on Graham's "barely broken in bit", but I couldn't find where I saw the thread of it (or a similar one) being stolen :p

Barely broken in...not barely broken into!

I'd hate to buy a car like that, and have to get rid just because of scumbags

It is the one, googling the phone number shows this.

Both cars are fantastic. As are both drivers. Such a world between them and the (funny) guys on Topgear.

That was almost a year ago, cant imagine he'd be trying to get rid of it over that now? Wouldn't turn me off buying it if I was in the market though, saving 20 grand!

Two type of people will go for these cars

    1. The performance car owner wannabe. He loves the idea of owning a car that gets to 60 in under 5 seconds along with the idea that he's driving an out and out performance car thats seen as cool. More likely to partake in traffic light grand prix than track days.

    2. The petrolhead. He'll want this car for trackdays and driving the bejasus out of it on the way to the ring.

Both cars are exceptional but because the british media are keen to promote the blue oval badge people are underextimating just how much better the evo is as a pure drivers car than the focus. The focus is cheaper and seen as a "cooler" car and despite looking as mental as the evo as an out and out performer the evo is in a different league. Ive never driven a 10 but had a 9 in my drive quite a bit over the last few years and it was much more explosive and rowdy than the rs i had a spin in over in the uk. Quite a few of them poppin up over there.

Incidentally person 1. abovce will 99% of the time go for the focus. As a drivers car the focus has nothing over the evo.

Not sure about this view cpoh. I wouldnt say the evo is in a different leage at all. I would say the in gear times are better in the RS than the evo's. The focus sounds better and I think a better all rounder. I might agree the evo is better on track but this looks pretty fun.......

Most people can't afford the choice anyway, not over here. I can afford the Focus but 65-70 grand on a new Evo X is beyond me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,044 ✭✭✭Sqaull20

    Running from the Guardai!!

Has to be the Evo X!! Focus is just a fast little car, Evo is a rally car  Its quick on every surface, on every corner, thats why you pay more, no comparison really :pac:

Plus you cant have any fun with front wheel on the beach etc.

yeah the focus has nothing on the evo's 4 wheel drive

Would normally be an Evo in a heartbeat as I like that sort of thing, but having seen three round Dublin in the past 6 months, the looks of the Focus would win me over and I'd imagine it's a nicer place to be day-to-day.

can't believe the uninformed are still harping on about the no 4wd crap for the Focus. Pity someone doesnt do a proper comparison around country roads, no way the Evo shakes the Focus

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,686 ✭✭✭JHMEG

At those power levels 4wd will make a difference. Knock 100bhp off each of them and the difference wouldn't be as noticeable.

Any real performance car will be rwd or 4wd.

I think the Focus looks great and has has the power etc as do other fwd hot hatches but I would never buy one. It would just feel wrong.

My car is rwd and is not even very powerful but turn of the TC and on a wet road or a bit of gravel and let the back out and it always puts a smile on my face. Understeer no thanks!

It makes my car choices limited but for any sort of car performance or otherwise fwd will not be considered.

I'm am not trying to give a dig at anyone and people can buy what ever car they want its just my opinion.

I can only comment on the rs I drove in the uk. On smooth roads in a straight line the power delivery is great, not much torque steer and the wheel doesnt pull too much either. Take it down a rough surface, 99% or roads in ireland in fact and it was very difficult to get the power down, especially out of corners, the steering wheel pulls like mad as the diff counters the front wheel spin. 4wd would have made much more sense in real world driving.

I can only say that all those english journos who reviewed the focus RS drove her on beautiful continental roads or on track because I found the evo 9 I had in my hands much easier and more rewarding to drive on back/real roads let alone faster in real world (wet and cold) conditions. I assume the evo 10 is a further improvement again.

Im not doubting the desireability or price tag of the RS im just saying its not in the same league as the evo.

^^^ i suppose I can only comment on what I've read (& thats pretty much everything :D)

I wish to f**k I could talk about the Focus from my own experience, if only Ford would pull the finger out & deliver the b**tard thing. I;ll be sure to keep this thread in mind once I've takin it down a few back roads & report back regardless of the outcome ;)

Do you have the car ordered to buy or a test drive booked?
