good luck with this...one question tho, was there a Monaghan poker masters last year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 713 ✭✭✭Mr. Wolf

I genuinely don't know if there was one last year. I don't think so, but couldn't swear to it.

Ciarain Smith won his ticket for this game tonight in the Four Seasons, Monaghan.
We'd 33 players and a prize pool of €1,755. 1st prize was €700 (€500 cash plus a €200 ticket for the big game in August) Tonights game was a €25 entry with 2 x €20 rebuys max.

It does say in Mick's Sig in OP but I would like to reiterate that this game will offer maximum points for the Irish Poker Rankings

Mick there's a few lads heading down to this from Belfast, just wondering if the tickets for the MPO are freebies or coming out of the prizepool?

    Cheers, Eoin.

    Hi Eoin,
The tickets for 1st and 2nd will be part of the prize-pool. (with 70 plus runners that'd mean €5,000 plus a €250 ticket for 1st and €3,000 plus a €250 ticket for 2nd)

Thanks John, hopefully we hit the 100 player mark and can make this a once every 2 or 3 months event.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 713 ✭✭✭Mr. Wolf

We had 30 players in the Meadowview Inn, Cavan on Friday night for the €60 with 1 rebuy or top up for €20.
    Total prize-pool was €2,100
1st and 2nd did a deal heads up with second place getting €550 and first getting €500 plus a €200 ticket for this years Monaghan Poker Masters. Top 7 places were paid with €50 ticket for the bubble (8th) and best hand (quad Aces)
We now have 10 ticket holders for the Monaghan Poker Masters which is just under 9 weeks away. With satellites yet to be run in Armagh, Fermanagh, Meath, Monaghan, Cavan and Longford we should easily have 50 tickets out prior to the event.

Hi Rod, just got back yesterday (well done in Cootehill on Sunday)
We're running a satellite for this game next Friday (August 7th) in the 4 Seasons Hotel in Monaghan (9pm start) this game will be a €45 freeze-out with 1 in every 5 players getting a ticket for the Main Event on the 21st.

    Cheers Mick,

Was a good game on sunday, Gary had the blinds set up nicely which climbed very slowly allowing alot of play, didnt turn into a crap shoot, which allow the cream to rise to the top :D By the way are you involved in the running of the crossborder classic game in november?

Have you changed the date of this tourney I had it down in my phone for the 14th August? maybe i took it down wrong :o

I will be up for the sat you are running on the 7th, 1 in 5 chances is odds I like, especially when you take out the fish, leaving it really a 50/50 chance :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 713 ✭✭✭Mr. Wolf

Yeah, we moved the game from the 14th, Damo's running the Ladbrokes game there on the 9th so we put ours back a week to the 21st.
I'd expect you to pick up a ticket fairly handy in the satellite alright, i'd expect 50 runners, so 10 tickets hopefully.
    Chat soon

Yeah, there a few fine points to be hammered out but we will be running this event. There will be 3 day 1's over the first 2 weekends in November and day 2 should be the 3rd Sunday in November.
I'll be posting all the details as soon as we have them, but at the moment its looking like a €100,000 prize-pool with a €40,000 first prize.

I believe it is Damo, and I also believe that there may be tickets for next years Irish Open added to the prize-pool, we just need to sit down with the organisers and confirm all this before I post the game details etc.
As far as I know they've over 200 tickets out already for the Main Event, we're meeting with the club personnel early next week to confirm everything.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 713 ✭✭✭Mr. Wolf

Well done to James Corrigan, Lorcan Fox and Gunner Brady for securing their Monaghan Masters tickets this week.
Next Fridays (August 7th) satellite will almost certainly generate 8 to 10 tickets for the Main Event. With other satellites being run in Armagh, Fermanagh, Cavan and Longford we are still hopeful of hitting the 100 player mark for this game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 723 ✭✭✭destroyer

Any details on sats for this in Cavan Mick? Will you be running any like the 45 freezeout in Monaghan?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 713 ✭✭✭Mr. Wolf

Hi D, we've a €55 freeze-out in the Meadowview in Cavan on Monday coming (7pm start) with top 2 getting tickets for the Monaghan Masters. Then the League Final is next Sunday (9th) in the Lakeside Manor, Virginia (also at 7pm) with top 3 getting tickets. The following 2 Wednesdays (12th & 19th) we have €45 freeze-outs in the Slieve Rossa, Cavan town with 1 in every 5 players getting tickets.
Any players winning a second ticket in any of these games can take the cash alternative.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 713 ✭✭✭Mr. Wolf

Well done to Axel 'Action' Noack tonight for securing his ticket in the Lakeside Manor, Virginia. (there were 27 players with €1,900 in prize money, top 6 got paid, the game was €60 entry with 1 rebuy or top up for €20)

How many tickets you out now mick?

Just wondering amount many player i will have to suck out on :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 713 ✭✭✭Mr. Wolf

We currently have 19 tickets out Rod, we have satellites yet to run in Fermanagh and Armagh which should generate an extra 10 tickets at least and a satellite this Friday (7th) at 9pm in the Four Seasons, Monaghan Town. I'm expecting 40 to 50 runners at this game which would mean 9 to 10 tickets for the Masters (any players who have already won a ticket may take the cash alternative).
The following two Wednesdays we're running sats in the Slieve Rossa, Cavan and McCaffreys of Redhills (both games will have 5 tickets guaranteed)
If all goes according to plan we will have 50 ticket holders going into the game on the 21st, in addition I have had 8 players pre-reg online plus whoever buys in on the day.

So the simple answer to how many you will have to suck out on is LOADS!!! ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 713 ✭✭✭Mr. Wolf

Just a quick reminder, we're running a €40 + €5 reg satellite for this game tomorrow night (Friday) in the Four Seasons Hotel, Monaghan Town.
Game starts at 9pm. Its a $10,000 starting stack with a $2,000 bonus before 9pm. 25 minute blinds (starting $25/$50) throughout. 1 in every 5 players wins a €200 ticket for the Monaghan Masters on August 21st.
The same satellite game will be run next Wednesday in The Slieve Rossa, Cavan Town.
Any player winning a ticket who already has one can take the cash alternative.

Well done to Mark Ayers for winning his Monaghan Masters ticket on Thursday in P.V.'s of Longford. We had 42 runners at the game with €2,025 in the prize-pool and Mark took home €600 cash plus the €200 ticket as 1st prize.
This brings the total number of tickets out so far to 20.

Well Done to Aron Mc Kenna, Cathal Murphy and Johnny Reilly for wiining their tickets tonight in the Four Seasons satellite.
We also have 7 new tickets holders from the Armagh satellites which brings the total number of tickets out to 30.
With 2 weeks of satellites and regular games yet to go we are hopeful of having 50 ticket holders for this event prior to kick off.

Any chance you could post the names of the layer already registered.

Quick question regarding the blinds, at the first level to include antes is it correct that it is $500??? sound very high considering the blinds

Hi Hot Rod, good result Sunday, you're running like God these days buddy:

Players already registered for this years Monaghan Poker Masters:

    Aidrian Mc Cabe
    Gunner Brady
    David O'Reilly
    Mark Mc Ardle
    Mark Beckett
    Dave Thompson
    Billy Flynn
    Ciarain Smith
    Ronan Mc Intyre
    David Reynolds
    Andrea Greenan
    Gary Hughes
    Eileen Donohoe
    James Corrigan
    Mark Ayers
    Malcolm Mc Vitty
    Rodney Mc Vitty ;)
    Tom Ryan
    Johnny Reilly
    Aron Mc Kenna
    Cathal Murphy
    Lorcan Fox
    Darren Monaghan
    Armagh Satellite (7 players)
    Sue Haughton
    31 players so far

As regards the ante's in the tournament, they don't come into play until 7 and a half hours of play have elapsed which puts us at 4.00am. Ideally we would like to hold the antes off until we are down to the last 2 tables (18 players) so if we felt they were prohibitive we would'nt put them in at this stage.
I feel it's easier to have an ante scheduled and cancel it if necessary than not have them scheduled and try to introduce them if the game is going to slow.

Mick, can absolutely guarantee this will be fully dealer dealt? and not turn into the debacle that was the cavan open last year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 713 ✭✭✭Mr. Wolf

Yes, O'Neillman I can absolutely guarantee that this event will be fully dealer dealt from the start, last years Cavan Open was our first attempt at a dealer dealt tournament, and we were short of dealers due to a combination of horrendous weather conditions and having about 30 more players than we had anticipated.
We ran a €200 freeze-out in March of this year whcih was fully dealer dealt and went like clockwork.
Lemme know if you wish to reserve a place for this one.
    Ta
    Mick

Bit over the top that. Being a few dealers short for the first few rounds of a 2/3 day event hardly qualifies as a debacle!

Put my name on the list for this one Mick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 713 ✭✭✭Mr. Wolf

Cheers D, you're player number 40, that final table wouldn't be the same without you buddy

Not really, they were missing more than a couple of dealers and it wasnt a 2/3 day event, if i remember right, it was finished in one LONG day, so it was a debacle tbh at least until half the field was gone.

I wont pre reg mick but i might be over to play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 713 ✭✭✭Mr. Wolf

I fully accept that there were mistakes made at the C.P.O. last year which I can only assure you will NEVER happen again. The decision to turn it from a 3 day to a 2 day event was made by the players themselves and again this decision was largely weather related. If you can recall we had some of the worst weather this country has seen in years that weekend, and the roads in Cavan aren't famed for their safety ;)
Anyway, ALL of our €20 reg games are now fully dealer dealt from start to finish.
    Ta
    Mick

Your recollection is faulty. It was originally supposed to be 3 days but was finished in two LONG days.

Dictionary definition of debacle ;–noun 1.a general breakup or dispersion; sudden downfall or rout: The revolution ended in a debacle. 2.a complete collapse or failure
.........so hardly a debacle then either.:D:D:D

Anyway, just to remind everybody what this thread is about:

Next Friday (August 21st) The Four Seasons Hotel Monaghan.
Reg from 7pm, game at 8pm.
$20,000 starting stack, 30 minute blinds throughout. Fully dealer dealt.
With 40 players pre-regged we already have €8,000 in the prize pool.
We are expecting another 40 to sat in or pay in between now and then so this figure should reach €16,000 at least.
There is another satellite for this game on Sunday (16th) at 7pm in the Four Seasons Hotel, Monaghan.
This game will be €40+€5 reg with 1 in every 5 players winning their ticket for this years Monaghan Masters.
