Dont understand this one. WWE needs wreslers of all shapes and sizes. I wasn't his greatest fan, but when he was injury free, he was a worker in the ring.

This one added to Kennedy's release has hit me for six. Why are they on TV involved with storylines and then being released out of nowhere?

They had just started to develop the persona by having him speak. The Writers have a hard enough job without their ideas going out the window as someone is released.

Like the Kennedy release I am surprised by the timing but I can see reasons why they have released him.

I am really sad to see another guy lose his job. I hope things work out for him.

obviously the recession is hittin the wwe,

meh, didn't work for rikishi and where has rosey been since released??

That's a shame. I liked him in the ring. Not many guys his size are as fast as he is.

Hah, was just gonna say that, Junior Fatu i think they called him. He lasted about two weeks or something.

They got one fat Samoan, they don't need another.

Well I know they are cutting costs but I am still surprised. I thought pay was related to success. I doubt Umaga or Kennedy for that matter, were on massive contracts not linked to performance. Ah well its done now, good luck to him.

Yeah I can see him showing up to feud with Joe for a few weeks before disappearing.

Surprised he was realesed though....compared to some of their big guys he was fairly decent.

How about TNA use Umaga and Kennedy as their version of the outsiders but just really really badly.

I wouldn't rule out Umaga turning up in TNA. He could be signed up as part of the nation of Violence IF he is healthy. I imagined Manu turning up but Umaga would have a higher profile.

nice to see there giving room for John Morrison to be pushed up the card now but i have to say i liked him he was a good all rounder in the ring and i wanted him to win last night against cm punk

yeah maybe there just gonna be more ruthless when it comes to cutting costs/talent...

honestly tho fat joe vs umaga would be awesome...... pie on a pole match, vince russos already booked it,

Kinda surprising seeing as he has actually been used on air since he came back. I guess now that his feud with Punk has ended, it could be a case of "we have nothing for you creatively" type of excuse.

Well atleast if he did go to TNA, he could be a possible addition to Joe's Nation of Violence...or atleast exchange face painting tips :pac:

Well they won't be swapping work out tips.

The CM punk feud seemed a bit rushed in the end so I assume it was decided last week at some stage.

Anyone else think it's odd that they refered to him as Umaga in the article as opposed to referring to him as Eddie Fatu. They usually refer to them using their real names. They did the same with Mr.Kennedy calling him 'Ken Kennedy'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,640 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Surprised to hear this. Also surprised at the negativity towards him on this thread. I stopped watching regularly in 2008 and at the time I was watching I found him one of their more impressive in-ring workers. Unless he's declined since then?

I imagine he'll end up in TNA but he can't use the Umaga name and I think that lessens his value somewhat.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,510 ✭✭✭Tricity Bendix

Umaga was as talented as any monster heel the WWE could expect to employ. He has far more in-ring charisma than Knox, Khali, or even Henry. With Kane and Big Show becoming steadily more decrepid, I don't see where WWE expect their monsters to come from. Bad move.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 493 ✭✭thealltimelow

they can call him samoa eddie

I think hes a brilliant worker. His strikes were so brutal and realistic looking and he had a really good intensity to him. Cant't believe they've fired him, I'm genuinely shocked.

Suprised at the anti-Umaga sentiment on here!

The guy is a tremendous talent, one of the better big-men in the business today. The comparisons with Junior Fatu are weak to say the least; Fatu was well-past his sell-by date during his TNA run, whereas Umaga has bucketloads to offer.

Unfortunetly, the TNA roster is more than a little bloated right now so now may not be the time to hire the guy. No matter; he'll no doubt have AJPW offering him his headline status over there back shortly. I wish him well.

I'd LOVE to see him back in Japan actually. He'd really freshen up NOAH's roster as a monster gaijin come to think of it.

Why release a decent mid-card wrestler while jimmy wang yang and sim snuka are doing nothing for the company whatsoever I guess he just didn't have "the look" like Manu.
I would like to see him in a feud with fat joe on TNA in a samoan strap match with a twist One whole pie in each corner. 1 has cyanide in it.

    This is terrible news. :(:(:(:(:(:(
I loved the guy he gave us the best last man standing match ever and his matches with Jeff last year were superb. His recent stuff with Jo Mo and Punk has been superb as well. Probably the best big man in the company is gone. Umanga gone, but Kozlov and Knox still employed.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,972 ✭✭✭orestes

Screw it, who cares about the two years they have spent building Umaga up, they still have Kane as a credible monster heel.

    Oh, wait.....

Maybe if he goes to TNA they can call him 'Yoomanga'

I can see him joining the nation of violence and helping Joe against the Mafia with Tazz also I think they would make a good tag team

I liked Umaga. He had some pretty damn good matches with different wrestlers over the last few years. But I also thought WWE had painted themselves into a corner characterwise.

Maybe TNA will sign him and Rosey, reteam them and make them part of Samoa Joe's Nation of Violence.

Dolph Ziggler can now move up the card a little faster.

Very surprising news. I did feel that Umaga lost alot of his appeal when they took Armando Estrada away from him though.

TNA I would doubt actually. Would not surpirse me to see him back in WWE in a few weeks like they have done in the past with others - fire and re hire in a small space of time.

In even more surprising news, I'm in agreement with gimmick on this one.

Estrada made Umaga in 2006. Estrada as a mouthpiece was more over than Jamal initially. Essentially Umaga was basically a destroyer at Estrada's command. When they got rid of Estrada, they got rid of a lot of Umaga's momentum. I have no idea how he managed to last after the pair were broken up.

Well said. Estrada was what made Umaga. The combo, if left together could of achieved a hell of alot.

As good as Umaga's matches were at times the only thing he was missing was what he had at the start, Estrada.

There was a drug failure that they reported to congress but it was never announced publicly at the time, so I wouldn't rule it out

It's something I wondered. I did read he was on two.

I didn't want to speculate on it as we spent enough time calling him fat without suggesting he was on drugs too!

I have a feeling that it must be a third strike. There are quite a few more wrestlers that could or would be released before Umaga.

Watch this space. f4wonline.com has news of a new round of drug testing in the next week, with a list of guys who are likely/possible to be off TV having already been given to creative in advance of a new rash of suspensions.

Probably explains at least in part their putting the gold on Punk at this time as well.

According to ewrestlingnews.com he quit because he didn't like the way WWE were using his character, He didn't want to be used as a mid-card for the rest of his career so he left. Same website says TNA are eager to sign him when his "No Compete Clause" runs out which is 90 days.
