    7. O'Brien
    8. Muldoon
    9. Boss
    10. Sexton
    11. Keogh
    12. Downey
    13. McFadden

love to see downey start and play to his ability; think he is a fantastic player.

Have to say I agree with you team there Karmabass from the players available.I'd possibly put Frank Murphy at sh but agree with the rest.Really hope Toner gets the nod over Hogan and hope O'Brien gets gametime ahead of Ronan.

I'd hope Felix Jones would get some gametime during this competition as well.

I know Muldoon is captain, but this is the team I'd pick anyway...

    1. C. Healy
    2. D. Fogarty
    3. T. Buckley
    4. D. Ryan
    5. D. Toner
    6. N. Best (capt)
    7. N. Ronan
    8. S. O'Brien

    9. S. Keogh
    10. J. Sexton
    11. J. Murphy
    12. J. Downey
    13. F. McFadden
    14. F. Jones
    15. F. Carr

    11. J. Murphy
    12. J. Downey
    13. F. McFadden
    14. F. Jones
    15. F. Carr

No Cronin? And Fionn Carr at wing over Jones? I dont think so. Fullback has been Felix Jones position all the way through age grade and representative rugby and Carr has played well on the wing all season.

Sean O Brien dosn;t play 8 either, he is one of the best 6's around, but probably would play 7 if best was 6. Ronan 8 maybe.

Ah no way, I'd love to see O'Brien at 8. They're the 3 best back-row players in the squad imo, it's only a matter of fitting them in, I know O'Brien has featured at 7 most this season, but out of the 3 he'd have to be hands down the best 8 out of the lot! Ronan would be an out and out 7, O'Brien would be more of a 6 imo, but has everything needed to be and 8, sure next season he'll be the back-up 8 to Heaslip unless someone is signed. Keoghs days at Leinster are numbered and as far as I'm aware Jowitt is leaving.

As for Carr and Jones, that's just being pedantic, both can play either, so at your preference you can swop them around if you like.

Jaysus, is Hurley Kidney's lovechild or something?
Also, Henry in ahead of Muldoon???
Apart from that, good to see Toner, Cronin and O'Brien starting, I think these 3 are all future regular international players and could be the backbone of the Irish pack in 5 years time.

Maybe Canada are putting out a weakened team, in light of 3 matches in last 12/14 days, so Kidney is resting Muldoon, Healy and possibly Sexton for the challenges to come.

Said Muldoon is injured on Newstalk. Agree with you on Hurley , though he did show fate in Sexton when everyone else had washed their hands of him so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

If he's on the bench, he should be fit to start.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 438 ✭✭Diom

No reason for Muldoon on the bench if he is injured. Also re:Ronan, I still don't rate him. Was disappointed in Muldoon in the Ireland friendlies, but poor performances are the (rare) exception for him, whereas for Ronan it is the good performances that are the exception.
If you really need to start Ronan, let's try him at inside center.

    Ronan's not in the 22...

The next games is on Saturday though. Considering the season he's had it's probably best to give Healy a rest for this match. Muldoon's already had 2 games to prove himself. No point playing him in every match on the tour.

Who's worse Gavin Duffy or Denis Hurley?

Who's worse Gavin Duffy or Denis Hurley?

    Hurley.

Gavin Duffy's got a lot of talent and potential.

He played well enough for Quins as well iirc. Was a while ago though.

    Hurley.

How long are we going to keep saying Duffy has talent and potential? He's been playing pro for a while now , I think its time to accept that he's never going to make it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,193 ✭✭✭[Jackass]

Ah I think Duffy is well past the potential stage by now, but still a very decent player. For Magners League and Challenge Cup he's certainly up to scratch.

As for Hurley...well, I can't help but feel I'm being harsh every time I talk about him but.....what the hell is this guy doing as a professional rugby player? Surley he could get a job in his local bank branch or something, get a decent career out of it.

In fairness though, he's got a Heineken Cup winners medal! (then went back to playing AIL at the begining of the next season), but he should stick to rugby as a hobby and not a profession.

    Potential? He's nearly 28.

Well true, but he's still better than Denis Hurley. :p

I'm sorry, but what the **** is Sexton doing amongst the replacements. He is miles above NOC in more or less every aspect of outhalf play. And similarly, what the hell is Healy doing on the bench. That is a terrible squad selection. Two players pushing for full caps on the bench of the A squad....

I'm sure Kidney is well aware of Sexton's abilities by now, he has stuck by him this season even when he wasn't playing well, and look at him now. Sexton will play the next game, he's just having a look at O'Connor.

    I know.
I was reacting to a post earlier in the thread. I like to point out that I don't rate Ronan whenever the opportunity arises.

And Duffy is better than Hurley. He was playing very well in the ML before the summer, and I felt he let himself down in the Summers Internationals.

Its on sky sports 2 in 10 mins. Looking forward to it now, keep an eye on Sean Cronin, this a match made in heaven for him, INCREDIBLE in the loose, he'll tear shreds off canada.

Off to a good start already. Hurley with a try in the corner, missed conversion.

Have Ireland -9 points and Fionn Carr to score a try (anytime).

Try McFadden off a scrum, Canadian defence too quick up.

    Canada 6 - Ireland 10.

    O'Connor pen - all square 13-13

Ref needs to get a handle on some of the tackling here, a lot of arms swinging at head height on both sides.

Ha, the presenter on Sky Sports (don't know his name) just said "Ireland A of course here witt the tag of Grand Slam Champions, without their frontline players who are with the Lions in South Africa". Well duh, the whole point of the A squad is that it's not the frintline players. These guys aren't there with the tag of Grand Slam Winners (no disrespect to the A squad, hopefully there are several grand slams in their futures).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,460 ✭✭✭Orizio

Our half backs are god awful. How exactly did O'Connor get a pro contact?

Neil Best trying to start a riot is most entertaining though. :D
