Just watched The Great Buck Howard. Loved it. John Malkovich in excellent form as an old "mentalist" who was a Johnny Carson regular years ago and is now on the road performing at all these remote towns. Couldn't recommend it highly enough. One of those simple but enjoyable films with a definite feel good ending.

I wouldnt really consider American Beauty to be a feel good movie but what do I know.

As for a recommendation, you've probably seen it but I watched Juno recently and really enjoyed it.Just a really nice movie.

Looks to me like what you're after is not just "feelgood", but also a "journey" movie - one where a character takes a journey of some sort, and comes out happier at the other end. So, I'd recommend something like:
    • Spirited Away
    • Secretary
    • L.A. Story
    • The 40-Year-Old Virgin

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Thats exactly what i was gonna say.

    The Straight Story
Would be my suggestion after that.

BTW, American Beauty a "Feelgood movie"...i must have missed that part...

Must have missed the post-credit scene where they all sit around and bond over Grateful Dead CDs. Very moving sequence :pac:
As for good feel good films? My Neighbour Totoro always puts a smile on my face, as does every Pixar film. Kikujiro by Takeshi Kitano is a nice and happy little film too, a distressingly underviewed little gem! Almost Famous is another one which tends to put me in a sunny mood.

The end of American Beauty may not be the most feel good but the rest of it, imo, is.

Just saw Duplicity starring Clive Owen and Julia Roberts. Romantic drama with several ironic twists.

Try and get your hands on "Whatever happened to Harold Smith?". Its a fantastic movie, which was over shadowed by other Brit films such as east is east which is far inferior in my opinion.

    Other recommendations would be:

    The pursuit of happiness
    The Full Monty

Er.... cant think of any more.

Goodbye Lenin and Amelie are both great feelgood films if you don't mind subtitles.

Bubble Boy, Saving Grace, Grosse Pointe Blank, The Terminal, Finding Neverland are all good too.

you'd be hard pressed to find a more harmless film than "Driving Miss Daisy". Morgan Freeman is brilliant in it. also i came across a film late one night called "Joe Vs. The Volcanoe". it's got a young Tom Hanks in it and it's quite quirky and funny and definitely feel good.

    Stardust

    The Princess Bride

Yes!! The Princess Bride = HAPPINESS. Stardust is quite similar but the Princess Bride is awesome. Gonna watch it myself now :D. And must watch Diving Bell and the Butterfly, I kept thinking it might be a bit heavy but i've been hearing it's really uplifting lately.

Oh, I'm behind it, all right - saw it again on TV a few weeks ago. Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson are also excellent in it - and the ending leaves you wondering what happened to those two.

+1 for The Princess Bride, too. Now, who's going to back me up re Secretary? :pac:

Wes Anderson's 'The Darjeeling Limited' is a good journey/feelgood film.

    Also: Amelie

    Nuff said.

And while we're on the continent Cinema Paradiso.

But I'd actually describe any movie I really really loved as "feel good." I watched 2001 A Space Odessy the other day and it gave me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

And does the whole movie have to be feelgood or is a life affirming ending enough?

    More traditional recommendations:
    Ferris Buellers Day Off
    The Breakfast Club
Uncle Buck...... Okay any 80's John Hughes.
    Babe
    Ghostbusters
Mama Mia! (hangs head in shame but its actually infectious, anyone not smiling ear to ear when Brosnon assaults S.O.S. is inhuman)
    Raising Arazona
    My Cousin Vinny
    Shaolin Soccer
    Pleasantville
    About Schmidt

    Pay It Forward was okay.

I'd have to (respectfully) disagree, I thought pay it forward was contrived nonsense. Lars and the real girl is a beautiful film, really genuine and heart warming stuff.
Anyway for the original poster heres some feelgood movies I liked:

    - Lars and the real girl
    - The gameplan (I know, being a bloke I really shouldnt like this or even admit to liking it but its just a nice film and the rock is very funny)
    - The miracle (you dont have to like hockey or even sports, this is top class and a true story. Graet aerosmith song at the end aswell)
    - Starter for 10 (Guaranteed to make you smile)
    - Beautiful Girls
    - In the shadow of the moon (Its a documentary but I cant imagine anybody coming away from this not feeling great)
    - Stranger than fiction
    - Michael Clayton (I know this seems like an odd choice but I think it is uplifting for michael's redemption)
    - Gung ho( I know its a bit cheesy but its genione and its got a big heart)

Thats all I got, hope it helps.
