Kathy Sinnot doing bad.

According to RTE's exit polls Kathy Sinnot is failing miserably. :D

Crowley apparantly has the lead followed closely by Seán Kelly, and where as these two are almost guaranteed the first two seats it appears that Toiréasa Ferris is in third with 13% followed by Colm Burke (FG) with 12%.

That third seat is going to be very close to call. But thank the Gods that Sinnot is failing!

    Great!

She's in this clip, happy go lucky..

The only fly in the ointment is Ferris doing so well.

The reason most voted for her is be cause shes hot - stupid democracy.

Anyway, any day Kathy Sinnot loses is a victory for rationalism over ignorance.

Had to mute the presenter, it really can be a harsh language to listen to.

    Delighted she's doing poorly.

I gave Ferris my number 1 for different reasons. Although, granted, she is hot!

I am also pleased with this development.

I would rather Ferris or Kelly get elected instead of Burke, but I reckon Burke will nab it. Still, better him than Sinnott! :D

there's a thread further down outlining the dislike.

but to put it in simple terms...Only Irish MEP to be caught stealing.

Hope Treasa Ferris gets in but she's not far enough ahead of Kelly unfortunatly.
She got my number 1 for a few reasons.
    1) She's Hot as has been mentioned
    2) She's from Kerry and went to my school.
    3) I actually like Sinn Féin. The past is the past etc + their stance on the Gaeilge is admerable.
    4) F**k the Government!

    That is all!

I don't think this is true - it takes a long time for parties to change.

Your fourth point I can't argue with, though.

i think sinott is great - she fought the government for years on an issue that shows how morally bankrupt this state is in it's quest to ignore anything that is not economically benefical - like resources for kids and kids with extra needs.

She is better that a lot of the other shower esp the shinner who think they're mightier than the rest cos they have a few rebel songs and glorify garda killers...not to mention their support of gnagster bullboys in various pasts of the state.

I suppose that, thanks to the GAA fans, we'll probably end up replacing one lousy MEP with an even lousier one. Even worse than voting FF, and that's saying something.:o

RTÉ reckon it's a battle between Alan Kelly and Sinnott for the final seat.
I gave Ferris my number 1 and Kelly my number 2 in order to make sure Sinnot didn't get elected.

Well all the talk about Burke taking the third seat proved to be nonsense. Guess I shouldn't have paid so much attention to those exit polls!

I'm still hoping Ferris picks up enough transfers to push her into third but I know that's probably wishful thinking and it's much more likely that Kelly will get the third seat. Nonetheless, Kelly is definitely more favourable than Sinnott; I gave him my second preference (after Ferris) so that he'd have at least one transfer over Sinnott.

Results after count 6 (distribution of Burke's votes) just in:
    Ferris: 73389
    Kelly A: 78651
    Sinnott: 71349

Sean Kelly's surplus is up for distribution next. That's 10180 to be divvied up if my subtraction is still good.

Just heard that because the distribution of Sean Kellys surplus is so close, they're doing a recount of the distribution. It's shaping up to be a real battle for the last seat.

    Ferris has been eliminated.

Interesting, they obviously didn't do the recount at all. Apparently Ferris declined the option to recount.

Kelly leading Sinnott by nearly 9,000 votes for the last seat. [Link]

But surely Sinnot could get more of Ferris' transfers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,608 ✭✭✭✭sceptre

    Indeed.

    Post-count 7:
    Ferris: 74480 (elim)
    Kelly A: 83921
    Sinnott: 75168

688 votes of a gap wasn't much there, I suspect a recount at some point.

Obviously it's close to winner takes all with the Ferris redistribution - with 8753 separating her and Kelly, ignoring non-transferables, Sinnott needs 56% of the transfers to win while Kelly needs 44%.

Just wondering how exactly they distribute this surplus?

Is it the last 10,180 votes he received which are distributed, or is it just 10,180 votes taken randomly?

Probably, yeah. But I'm still hoping that the whack-job Sinnott doesn't make it.

Half an hour of extra time, first person to score wins.

Please, don't reply to this anyone, I know what you're thinking so you don't have to say it.

    Conor's correct.

It's called the Hare method and it's what we use here. We use it mostly because it's the easiest method to use. We're simple folk it seems.

Counting them all and reducing them all proportionally is called the Gregory method (btw, it's named after the Australian guy who came up with it and has nothing to do with Tony Gregory).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,148 ✭✭✭✭KnifeWRENCH

    :(:(:(

Gutted and shocked that Ferris was eliminated before Sinnott. How the hell did Sinnott manage to pick up so many transfers from Sean Kelly? Since there was only 600 votes between Ferris and Sinnott in the end I think Ferris should have opted for the recount. If things were the other way around I would expect Sinnott to do the same.

If Alan Kelly does not win this third seat now that Ferris is out I will be most displeased.

Actually I think that's what we were due to use if we had electronic voting.

its funny how this thread is titled kathy sinnott doing bad and the declan ganley thread is titled ganley looking good.

and the roles have almost completely reversed...

kathy has a good shot (sadly)

and Declan is being pushed further and further back

I believe so. It's the most accurate form of vote transfer there is. There's discussion on its fairness (in some circumstances it doesn't treat all votes equally) but it's certainly fairer than the Hare method. There's a comprehensive wikipedia page of various methods here for the uber-curious. Well worth a read for anyone completely interested in different transfer methods.

Not to be confused with the Burke and Hare method, which is where dead people remain on the register and a body presents itself at a polling booth ready to vote under that name...;)

should get a lot of toiraseas transfers,

tell us what you do not like about this lady friend?

her special needs child? does that irritate you? should she have packed him off to an institution at a young age so as not to vex people like yourselves?

elaborate my brother, we wish to learn

I'm guessing this was aimed at me, since I voted for Ferris but cannot stand Sinnott.
I'll tell you why; apart from being anti-Lisbon there is very little similarity between them. Sinnott is socially conservative and right wing. Ferris is socially liberal and left wing.

EDIT: Oh, and that vid BlitzKrieg posted is another reason I'm anti-Sinnott.

who said anything about her special need son, I have no time for her and my son is special needs, I don't like her stance on stem cells, she ill informed and talks ****e on the subject, don't like her stance on Lisbon, she doesnt mind takin money from the eu but slags it off at any opertunity, she signs in and them buggers off in Brussels I could go on and on, just because people don't like her don't assume you know their reasons:rolleyes:

    I like that video,

but sometimes an mep can be like democracy itself .....the best of a small number of imperfect choices...

    or the least bad choice....

btw my vote helped Joe Higgins get into the seat FF used to have,

Kathy Sinnot made Irish history with her long, difficuly and gutsy battle on behalf of her special needs child with the Irish state
she improved the position of all such children and their parents from that point
she asked that the people of Cloyne might vote on the need for the former bishop to go or stay when every other politician was hiding from the issue
after becoming a parent 3 times I agree with her views on Abortion, it is one of the few positives in this society
I support the use of cord blood for new remedies and treatments especially with regard to CPalsy
if a guy who has a rap song on youtube takes her seat ..well that will be some development

    or the least bad choice....

Seeing as she is the only irish MEP caught that would mean that every other candidate in every other constituency would be *less bad* then her.

Abuse should not be tolerated full stop. Someone abuses their powers, I dont vote for them. No further discussion on the topic needed, its that simple.

But Kathy Sinnott is not the least bad choice. She is the worst choice as far as myself and others here are concerned. Right wing, anti-abortion, anti-stem cell research, anti-Euthenasia, abusing her expenses as an MEP; so she is by far the worst choice to represent our country in Europe.

Now I don't know much about Brian Crowley but he always comes across well.
I do not like Fine Gael's stance on Europe but I like Sean Kelly as a person.
I'm not particularly impressed by Alan Kelly but on a national level I do like the Labour party and what it stands for.

So these three men are "least bad" choices. Sinnott is not.

Sadly it's quite possible, but any Ferris voters who gave Sinnott a second preference are obviously basing their votes solely on Lisbon. I for one made sure Alan Kelly had my number 2 because Lisbon is only one issue I considered when voting.

Is there any other deities we can send 'prayers' or 'offerings' too ? I can't understand how people would vote for someone who won't represent them in anyway shape or form ?
