    This looks like great fun!

Starring that bloke who wanted to nail Sydney in 'Alias' who's doing quite well in movies now, and Andy from 'The Office' (whose 80% of his contribution to the show is him singing either really high-pitched or really low-pitched) and Zach Galalalalalala.. whatever.

Released in the US this weekend, and here next weekend (June 12th).

    The R-rated trailer is below:

And for those offended by bad words, ass-cheeks and alluding to masturbation - here's the general trailer (aka "the girlie version"), ya big sissies!

I'm not a big fan of Phillips' other movies, but I think a standard hangover film is ripe with comedic possibility. Although everytime I see the bearded character I am instantly reminded of the Big Lebowski - a White Russian influenced blur which is probably the perfect 'morning after' film anyway (or so I'm guessing, given my complete lack of alcohol consumption).

At least it'll be a good comedy in a while as Will Farrel won't be pissing all over it with his crap antics and terrible humour

Interesting you should mention, this pissed all over the opening weekend of Ferrell's new film Land of the Lost. I like Ferrell myself but no idea what he was thinking signing up for that garbage

I will def see for Bradley Cooper

Zach Galifianakis is such an underrated comic talent

Tyson's cameo in the trailer is hilarious

Really looking forward to this, the main reason being Andrew Bernard from the Office and the trailors look good too

Is it out yet? Been hearing good things about this for ages, from very unlikey people.
Is that Zach Galafanakis the comedian? Is that his name? I seen him years ago in Kilkenny. Hilarious and a really sound guy, if is that guy like :)

Contrary to earlier reports, The Hangover topped the weekend box office in its debut weekend, overtaking Up. The Hangover earned $45 million — about $1.8 million more than Sunday's estimates, according to the Associated Press. Pixar's animated Up was close behind, with $44.2 million in its second week. The raunchy Hangover exceeded expectations

Its No. 1 in the US

Looks great, been waiting a long time for an actual FUNNY movie! Lots of promises of the "funniest film ever" that barely earn a smirk, this looks more promising.

My being the socialite that I am, I was at the premiere last night. This film is excellent! Soooo much better than my meager expectations. I would very much recommend it to anyone.

I was seated in the back row of Savoy Screen 2. Can you believe that a premiere wasn't in Screen 1?! Anyway, for the first thirty minutes or so, all of the stars and Todd Philips were standing right behind me. You'd think this would be cool. It wasn't. You can't laugh at a stupid fat guy when he's right behind you! I did get a High Five off Bradley Cooper though, which was pretty slick. I have now had 4 celebrity High 5s.

Can't wait for this, i'm a big fan of Bradley Cooper. His comic timing is fantastic, evident in his great show Kitchen Confidential which went the way of most great shows.

Oh, why weren't we informed of the Dublin première in advance? If I had been there, I might have seen the following in person:

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. The film is alright, i thought the rating on IMDB of 8/10 was very generous, (Work in a cinema) couple of great funny parts, over all good film, just not worth the title "comedy of the year"

It's only opening weekend in the States.. it's always the way on IMDb.

It'll end up in the 6 - 7 mark before long.

Went to see this last night, I'm not joking its possibly one of the funniest films I've ever seen. Unlike your Forgetting Sarah Marshalls and Knocked Ups the script is totally unpredictable which makes it great. I was laughing from start to finish.

I might even go see it again over the weekend.:)

8.5 on IMDB at the moment.

Thought it was rubbish. It would have been funny if they had shown sequences where they were off their faces in a casino but they didnt.

    Walked out before the end.

That would surely have just been like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Seen it tonight, absolutely hilarious. I cant understand people walking out of movies like this, you know what you're going to get with this kind of thing.

Saw it earlier this evening and really enjoyed it, probably the funniest film I've seen since Burn After Reading. It was nice to see that the trailer wasn't just a collection of the film's best/only jokes - I reckon this would stand up to a repeat viewing pretty well.

As for "It would have been funny if they had shown sequences where they were off their faces in a casino" - at the start of the credits
there is a sequence of about 90 seconds where a series of photos are seen that detail the night's shenanigans, which largely involve strippers, drinking, a bit of rowdiness, and the incidents shown during the film
. Nothing like as funny as you might think.

If I had to pick a single favourite gag, it would be
Mr Chow's "Toodleoo, mutha****aaaaaaaaaaaas!" with the bizarre Bruce Lee delivery
    .

Crickey you poor bugger. Burn after reading was awful. This film is enjoyable but not where near as good as some of the postings here would have you belive. It also seems to borrow quite heavely form some other films

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 44 cine-man

It looks like there is a pretty mixed repsonse on here, but I thought the film was brilliant, definitely the funniest film I have seen in a longtime.

Not as silly/slapstick as Adam Sandler films, and not as centred around one person being funny as a Will Ferrell film.

To me the cast was largely unknown, Andy Bernard from The US Office and the guy from Alias; but I thought they were a brilliant ensemble cast with no one person stealing the show. As mentioned above I thought the oriental guy (the doctor in Knocked Up, and the King in Role Models) was hilarious.

The story unravels well throughout the film; its not the most complex plot but I don't think anyone would go into this kind of film expecting one. If you like the look of the trailer this film is for you.

I would highly recommend this film; and for those who might think about waiting for the DVD or downloading, this should definitely be viewed at the cinema with an audience.

Good thing I've got you here to set me straight on what I personally find funny then, eh?

A lot of the time I don't bother with cinema comedies because I'm not a fan of the Ben Stiller/Adam Sandler/Will Ferrell school of comedy for the most part. I can see what people might dislike about this film but I really enjoyed it, and as cine-man said, the trailer sells the film accurately enough that you should be able to tell if the film is your cup of tea.

    True.
The trailer does depict this film very well.

Now I could understand some of the complaints if the movie had turned out to be one of those Will Ferrel type films, or even something wittier like Monty Python. That would be a serious, mis-carriage of justice.

But I got exactly what I was expecting after seeing the trailer.

Thought this was very good. It was nice to watch a comedy that was genuinely very funny and well written, as opposed to just a lot of people falling over for laughs.

This and 'In the Loop' are my two favourite comedy films of the year so far.

I really enjoyed it...I roared laughing alot of the time.

even the simple things made me laugh
when they are on the way to vegas, and dan goes "am i ok to go" [trying to move into the next lane] and they go "sure" -- cut to a massive truck about to kill them all.... "You should have seen your face maaan" :)l

havent laughed that much in a while...def worth a look

Many laughs to be had, although I don't think it's as good as some of the previous frat pack films.

I was wondering - was this originally written as Old School 2? The characters were very similar. Bradley Cooper's character was basically Beanie, the groom was Mitch and the brother was essentially Frank the Tank. I could imagine the script originally having Ed Helm's character as the brother they hadn't met before who they aren't sure about... cue hilarity as
he goes bananas and marries a hooker...

What hype? I saw one trailer for this film a couple of weeks ago when I went to see T4. As I mentioned previously, I thought the trailer sold the film very well without ruining any of the jokes (as so often happens with big-screen comedies) and then went to see it. I haven't seen any ads for it on TV, and have noticed maybe 2 billboards for it. Is there a big promotional push going on with this film in Ireland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,330 ✭✭✭✭Dodge

Spot on, practically no promotional push for the film at all. Even in the cinema last night tons of posters and carboard cutouts for terminator, transformers etc. Didn't even see one poster for this. They're pretty much relying on people going to see Old School again

Which is fine with me, as it made me laugh a fair bit.

    The sight gag
with the baby's arm moving up and down
    still makes me laugh today

Saw this at 12.05 in morning on opening night in vegas with a friend. We both love Old School but have lately somewhat grown tired of Ferrell and Co. just relying on crazy shouting etc to fill seats.

Saw trailer for this and said had to see it when in vegas. Boy was i not disappointed!! I have to agree with people here saying its a sleeper hit and is hilarious. Most enjoyable film in a while. I must admit i had no idea who the bearded fellow was, but he was unbelievable. Was great sitting in the theatre watching scenes that were shot literally across the street in caesers, planet hollywood etc.

To those who say was awful, i respect you opinion, but cant really see how someone couldn't like it. Some of the jokes were over the top but overall they were delievered beautifully. Special respect to guys picking up what they think is their car at the valet. Had the whole cinema in stitches

    An easy 9/10 for me

Unlike bigslick, I do not respect other people's rights to their opinions. This movie was hilarious. If you don't agree then you are stupid/ dead inside/ deaf and blind/ all of these options.

Dodge, that bit is still getting me occassionally too! :D

Out of curiosity - what made you go to see this film? If it was the trailer, what aspect of the trailer led you to expect something other than the film itself? If it was something else, what did it lead you to expect that wasn't in the film itself?

(I'm not trying to be sarcastic, I'm genuinely curious about this - there seem to be a good few people who expected this to be a different film, and I'm curious as to where that expectation has arisen given my earlier comments on the trailer)

I have yet to see the hangover but I'm really lookign forward to it. A college friend told me that it was easily the worst, most unfunny comedy he had ever seen. He said that Cooper had no charisma and the film was woefully cast with a bunch of talentless clowns not fit to wear Will Ferrall's shoes.

His hatred of the film makes me even more excited to see it as his taste in comedy is sadly lacking, he believes that the best comedy of 2008 was The Love Guru and his worst film of 2008 was Burn After Reading which I found hilarious the second time round.

Oh my God. Saw this film last night and I can honestly say that I didn't stop laughing from start to finish ... absolutely hilarious and totally believable as well. I'm already thinking about going to see it for a second time :D:D deadly
