I found it easy enough. Answered all my questions in about an hour and twenty minutes. Rechecked it about 4 times too. Only a few parts I couldn't do.

I heart Pass Maths. That paper was grand, I could do everything that I had to do and drew a nice picture for the corrector to boot.

    It was handy enough.

The only thing I was really disappointed about was the first principal question.

I usually get a handy 20 marks from that question but the one we got today was the type I cannot do. :(

The 2x^2 one. Usually it's just an X^2 one.

Q4 was annoying, but I did an extra question, so all is good:cool:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 132 ✭✭Bongomc

Really happy with how that went. Only part C) of Q.3 was tricky and the rest was fairly easy.

    Same, I done.

    1, 2, 3 4, 6, 7, 8 (Not happy with 2 and 8. Pissed off about 8 because it's usually a peech for me.)

Was actually alot better than I tought it would be! I answered 7 questions just incase. I found question 4 hard =[

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 514 ✭✭✭Chanandler Bong

yeah same, pretty handy, love Q1s they're the ****!, whenever the question names the characters, you know it wont be too difficult:cool:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 553 ✭✭✭Futurism

Lulled into a false sense of security, we all end up failing maths on paper II.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 929 ✭✭✭TheCardHolder

Considering I've never even opened the book since I dropped down in fifth year, I found it very easy. Q1 I probaly could have answered when I was in 5th class:pac:

Only question I found difficult was complex numbers.

    Ordinary maths <3

    It was a breeze.
    Did 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8.

Couldnt get my head around 7 (c), but attempted it none the less.
And 8 (c) was tricky too.

Other than that, it went swimmingly :D

Here's hoping paper 2 goes as well!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54 ✭✭Pala!

I actually didn't find the complex numbers question very difficult.

But saying that, I probably got it wrong. :P

Now to lean some English, as John Montague says:

"I say goodbye to the cailliach, that terrible figue".

I'm not sure how that applies to here but atleast I remember it.

Got 7q's done. 4 and 8 annoyed me, but I'm only looking for a pass so I think I'm ok :)

By the way, anyone tell me what it means why it says solve |z| in complex numbers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 665 ✭✭✭english4490

thought Q 1,2,3, were fairly easy... but i thought the c parts to Q 6,7,8, were a bit tricky and that 1st principle question annoyed me!

    I believe thats some formula I didn't learn :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54 ✭✭Pala!

    If it tells you: |z| = 2x + 3i

Then you put 2^2 + 3^2 then get the square route of that number.

All you do is change the sign. In this case it was a plus, not a minus. Numbers stay the same, only the sign.

You and me both brother, usually the easy X^2 first principal comes up. But they put the stupid 2x^2 question on the paper, one I never learned. Just looked at it now and I'm pissed off because its simple. I believe I may have got about 5 - 7 marks off it, which isn't too bad since I thought I got 0.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,095 ✭✭✭OLP

I easily got 100%. Did all 8 questions, not a bother on any of them. Had time to double check it at the end aswell. Bring on Paper 2

    The modulus.

Something i actually looked over the night before..
BUT, when i saw it ont he page in front of me, i blanked =/

You square both terms, and then put them under a square root.

Something tells me, im going to remember that for a long time -.-

No that is the complex conjugate you are thinking of, not the modulus.

ya its a pity now, could have been a handy 20 marks! oh well i am much better at paper 2 so i hope that goes better!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,095 ✭✭✭OLP

Oh if anyones interested, the paper was very like the 2004 paper which I happened to do last night. Pretty handy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,558 ✭✭✭SmileyPaul

    I had great fun :)
was just what i needed after the english incident
questions 1-4 were actually really nice, after that I did questions 5,6 and 7 which weren't too bad
I think i aced the first 5 Q's after rechecking them all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Dman001

Was very happy with that. I was a bit confused with Q8 (C)(iii). Could someone post an answer to it, maybe putting it as a spoiler incase some don't want to know it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,095 ✭✭✭OLP

Don't have the paper with me. What was the question?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 111 ✭✭louliewan

Loved it, went in scared, came out singing (in my head of course!). Now English...let me at it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,231 ✭✭✭Fad

Got at the absolute least 50%.

    Fairly sure I got Q1,2,3 100% right.

    The rest, not so sure.

Got at least a B on the paper.

Was a bit annoyed First Principals came up on the Q8 (Actually, does it normally? I dunno) I got it right, but the curve? No!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 163 ✭✭Dr Gradus

    So....................Conor go 15 apples right?

Ha i better pass this damn subject.

Not a huge fan of paper 2.

    ye it was simple enuf

    q5 was ridicously easy!
nevr studied it before but reckon I got at least 45 out of 50 on it, no formulas neede whatsoever!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,492 ✭✭✭degausserxo

Delighted with the paper! Bit annoyed that first principles came up as part b, would've much preferred it in c. What was with the last bit in question 2 that was like x cubed+ x squared... no root or factors? Hadn't a clue how to do it, I was just grasping at straws.. attempt marks, yeow!

first principles come up every year dont they?

Yeah, they put the harder one (For me anyway) up this year. Usually its a handy one.

    Here that bouncing ball question.

    I think it was h = 10t^3 - 10t

To get the last part (maximum height) do you just get the second derivative.

    'Here that bouncing ball question.

I put t=0 'cause when it reaches its max height its speed is 0? Or something like that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,095 ✭✭✭OLP

No... the maximum height is when the speed is 0

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,625 ✭✭✭✭errlloyd

No second derive = acceleration. epic

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,095 ✭✭✭OLP

To get the maximum heigh you use the first derivitave (speed) and set it to zero.

It makes sense that when the ball is at it's maximum height it's speed is zero for a split second.

    The answer was 3 metres

Thought it was a lovely paper, I couldn't believe how easy question 1 was! didn't do great on question 6, but I did seven questions so it should be ok!
I just really hope they don't follow it with a horrible paper 2!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 108 ✭✭internetaddict

Anything with tangents went over my head but rest was okay... few weird bits though- especially the cubed question you had to solve.

I hate maths but I was happy :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 853 ✭✭✭Idjit

The q about the rectangle and the square with the square roots and the x's threw me off alot and i started having a mini panic so i left it and finished the paper, then i had enough time to come back to it.i took a stab at it,doubt it was right but i might get attempt marks for tryin several ddifferent ways to get at it...one of them had to be at least a little right.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,095 ✭✭✭OLP

The trick was to use pythagora's theorem in that I think

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,625 ✭✭✭✭errlloyd

Oh the rectangle question had quite a trick

    I think it was (2Routex)^2 + (Routex)^2 = (Route45)^2

    Getting... 4x + x = 45

    meaning x =9...

    Meaning 6 x 3 were the sides...

    Meaning the area was 18

Meaning the area of the square was 36

    Route 36 = 6.

When the answer is that nice, you know you're right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 782 ✭✭✭tootyflutty

I do love pass maths! :D
Did 1,2,3,4,6,7,8, 3 was my extra sneaky one at the end.
went great, couple of little things like the last bits of c's that were bit tricky, but happy over all! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 90 ✭✭RaeRae

This thread just makes me so glad I did the leaving two years ago. I couldn't remember any of it, not if I tried. But I got a D2 in OL and was bloody delighted. Bahahahaha.

    Good luck all.

Damn i just randomly worked out something crazy and it certainly wasnt that...ok...ok...only those marks down the drain so far i think, but the rest seemed to be ok :)

I think I did really well on it, got it all worked out and stayed until the very end, the only question I had a little bit of bother with was 2 (c) (ii) but I think I got the right answer out, fingers crossed, hopefully this English paper isn't crap! :D

Darn it Chris are you sure? it was 45= x+2x after you had squared them.

    45=3x
    15=x
    Length was then 30
    Width was 15
    15x30= 450cmsquared

The square must be 900cm squared
find the square root and you get 30cm, one side =30cm.

I am pretty sure that is right? That is what I did anyway.
