Push up problem

I do 100 push ups three times a week, but I find that this can sometimes cause soreness in (what I assume is) the tendon at the top of the shoulder.

I do warm up a little, but is there a specific warm up I can do for this tendon? That's the only stiffness I ever have, nothing pectoral or in the triceps.

I'll also only notice the stiffness when putting on a jacket or similar movements which require me to lift my arms over my head.

Please help, I don't want to end up like John McCain.:p

Do you do anything other than pressups?

When i played gaelic as a kid pressups were a big part of training, same with my kickboxing and kung fu days. Im sure it was the same for everyone else here. Now back in jan i did a strength test with Barry and scored 30 pressups, 0 pullups and 10 inverted rows. The other results are irrelevant but these ones highlight a massive imbalance in my upper body strength.

My point is there are better ways of training than doing 100 pressups or 100 situps. I think 100 burpees would be far more impressive and definitely better for you overall.

McCain can't lift his arms above shoulder level as a result of the torture endured while a POW in Vietnam.

Cheers for the burpee advice, but does anyone know a root cause for this day after pain?

Could be the flaring elbows - are they supposed to be flush with your torso?
