iPod & Screen not working, solutions?

Have a 2nd Generation iPod, 2 1/2 years old so out of warranty. If it'll cost to be fixed, I might as well replace with a new iPod. Problem; the screen doesn't work. I've restored and re-setted on many occassions.

Any ideas or is it a lost cause?
