    Lads,

Ive just joined weight watchers and my worry is that im in the gym doing a weight program to build up on lean muscle for extra calorie burning. BUT will this effect the scales ?

If i stick to WW points and do gym 3-4 days a week the more toned I get it wont show on the scales ????

    Any points on this please?

We'd really need to see your diet, weights routine, and current stats to be able to comment effectively.

If you can post these we'll be able to help.

im by no means an expert on this, but as far as i know weight watchers is based on losing weight, not neccessarily fat

i think the diet is based around calories instead of macronutrients, so it isnt really optimal for anything, and will only really get good results if you are extremely overweight

Who needs weight watchers if you can go to gym 3-4 times a week. All you need is 2 sessions of weight training and 2-3 sessions of cardio a week (level of toughness may depend on your current state of fat%).

First stop thinking about losing weight and start thinking about losing fat. Simplest way is to measure your body (waist, thighs, arms, bums, neck etc) and keep a log of it by recording the measurements every two weeks.

Eat small meals 6 times a day, have protein in every meal.

Above all, instead of wasting your money on WW, spend it on a good personal trainer who will show you a better path to fitness.

My GF: OMG I That steak you are eating is like 20 points.
Me: Really, I'm probably going to have 2 more today
    Her:

IMO opinion weight watchers celebrates losing muscle in the same way as losing fat-thats not right its a very crude old fashioned money making system. Do your own research- study nutrition and burning fat not muscle!

Bit hard on the old WW lads, the missus has been going on and off and it seems the group support is the main reason people are successful and anything that promotes healthier eating etc cant be that bad.

Thanks ofr feedback, The main reason im doin WW is because I have tried to eat healthy and failed loads of times, i need structure and having a weekly weigh in will help me be more disciplined.

I know alot of people here dont think its any use, BUT its been goin for years I know lots of people who have lost loads of weight. Im tippin on a whoppin 20 stone !

However im not a complete couch potatoes, i go gym etc and enjoy it. My downfall is bad eating habbits so if WW helps me with this then il gladly pay 10e and sit in a meeting once a week.

Diet for the past 2 months has been low carb, on a good day it looks like this!

breakfast - Porridge + spoonful of honey

Lunch - Wrap with chicken, peppers, onion, tomatoe, swiss cheese, bar of chocolate.

Snack - small tin of tuna

Dinner - chicken, fish, some veg

drink about 2ltrs water a day.

    On a bad day,

breakfast - Porridge + spoonful of honey

Lunch - Wrap with chicken, peppers, onion, tomatoe, swiss cheese, Coleslaw

    Couple cups of coffee

Dinner - Chicken curry or Spag bol or meat balls or grill (sausages, rashers, eggs, puddin, beans 2 slices bread )

Supper - couple slices of toast

Weights - Circuit, Back, Chest, Legs followed by 30 -60mins cardio or a good 10-15 lengths of pool. 2-3 days a week. Plus i started boxercise. 2 nights a week.

Okay good to see you're low carb. From my understanding of WW it used to be very anti fat, so at least they've moved beyond this.

Looking at your diet, here's the few changes I'd start to make:

Eat some protein at breakfast - how do you feel about eggs?

    Ditch the chocolate (obvious one)

I'd like to see more fats in there - almonds, brasil nuts - that sort of thing could really help you out I think.

At a guess I'd say your circuit isn't giving you the best bang for you buck, as you shouldn't be thinking in terms of body parts at this stage. Can you post your complete circuit? If not, you should centre your workout around squats, picking heavy things up, and putting heavy things overhead.
