Getting Rid of Belly/Moobs

Hi Guys, So I lost a nice bit of weight by eating better and I also used to do some pushups and situps but nothing major. Im surprised because I still have a fairly big belly and also my moobs havn't changed much.

I'm joining a gym over the summer and wondering what exercises would be best for getting rid of fat around the belly area & moobs.

I would also like to build up my biceps and triceps muscle area?

    Thanks guys

You can't target fat loss on your belly area and moobs. In fact, doing sit-ups and push-ups probably just made things worse, as any muscle growth is just going to push the fat out further.

You need to do cardio: decease your calorie consumption and speed walk/jog/run for about 1 - 2 hours three times per week. You'll see very visible results at the end of each month.

cool, what about doing some weights??? so that will decrease the moobs & belly??

Yeah lifting weights burns a lot of calories, but you can't do any specific exercises to target your belly fat and moobs.

Personally I don't need to do much (or any) cardio in the gym as I walk a lot and I doing very intensive lifting.

Yes, they boost the metabolism and are great for fat loss. I lost weight by cycling and then plateaued until I started weights.

    check www.exrx.net and www.stronglifts.com

But it does give better definition to them, it is not just sagging man boobs but muscle behind it, so even if fat I would rather have the look of a bouncer or heavy wrestler than just be fat.

Cool so your saying weights would be the way to go??

I couldn't really see on the websites what i should do considering I have lost 2 stones and want to tighten up and turn the fat into muscle.

Does anyone have a good program i could do??

You can't turn fat into muscle. You gotta stop believing those old myths. :)

Just do some cardio, lift some weights, and improve your diet and you will get results. The most important things are -

Whatever programme you choose to do, make sure it is fun so you will stick with it. So many people make the mistake of doing unpleasant/boring programmes and then give up after a few months.
Remember the key to what you want to achieve is burning more calories than you consume, and the easist way to do that is to eat less, e.g. it'll take about a day of exercise to burn off a slice of chocolate cake.
Fat cells never go away (they just empty waiting to be filled again) so you are going to need a lifestyle change if you want the weight to stay off you. If you stop exercising and return to your old ways you will rapidly regain the lost weight.

+1 I would also recommend all 3. I cycle to work and walk wherever I can that is my only cardio, I lift at home about twice a week. Main thing is to pick things you will stick to as mentioned. e.g. I have no interest in soccer or running or any team sports.

Yes, not new. Once at a certain size they can get no bigger so new ones develop. This is said to be one reason why very obese people can put back on fat easily. I expect it takes a fair few calories to develop a new fat cell, while just refilling existing ones might be quicker/easier (just a guess).

The fat will not turn into muscle, but it is possible to remain around the same weight while building muscle and losing fat. I remained ~12stone for over a year but got thinner. Replacing fat with muscle might be a better way to put it. If I had just done cardio I would have lost fat and not gained much muscle, might even have lost some since when overweight some wieght is muscle.

By keeping your metabolism higher you can get away with eating more like you used to do.

Yes, the hops can cause raised estrogen levels. In fact some herbal boob enhancement pills for women are hop based. The sugar in beer doesn't help either, the 4.3% irish heineken is 3.1% sugar. I could drink a 5L keg in a night no problem, that is 155g sugar!

Thanks Guys All This info is great to know. Well I heard that about bear before so I started drinking cider instead. Now i know its full of sugar but at least is not made with the hops ( AFAIK).

Ya I want to be able to treat meself every so often My Plan is :

Join the gym, Make use of the treadmill, running approx 20mins a session. Now i know 20 min isn't much but for someone who is just starting off I want to build up my sessions weekly or something similar.

And Also lift weights . I prob will make use of the rowing machine and cross trainer ( Don't Know if that counts as cardio)

Don't Mean to be a pain but would anyone have a recomendation of a circut i could follow. Just as a beginner I don't want to push too hard and first and then get sick of it But also want the workouts to be worthwhile:D

    Good response.
    Thanks.

Had kind of assumed that by "new one", People may have made the fairly small leap to "new one on me".

I take it you are looking for a starting program?

This one is quite good and will be very worthwhile - http://stronglifts.com/stronglifts-5x5-beginner-strength-training-program/

So your workout should start with weights (warm up by doing very light reps of this, this doesn't count towards you 5*5)

Then after your weights - do your cardio.. but make sure you push yourself on the cardio machines, consider HIIT - as you get your fitter.

When you go to the Gym - bring your program with you - tell them this is what you want to do & ask them how to show you how to do the exercises properly. Some Gyms don't like people doing big compound exercises ,so they will try and steer you away from this - Just be clear that this is route you want to go down..

with regards to it being hard at the start - thats what you want..
You will be sore as a b***ard after doing this the first few times! but it will get easier the more you do it and its hard to describe how good you feel when this starts to happen.

Thinking in terms of 'weights' as separate and distinct from 'cardio' will lead to very dull, uninteresting programs in my experience. What I do with my clients in combine the two.

If you'd like, we have a beginner's progression which introduces high intensity circuits at a low intensity (I know, sounds like a bit of a contradiction), that I could PM to you. It would help you equip yourself with the skills and technique necessary to perform circuits like these on your own.

i know you posted this a while back, i'm wondering if you have a copy of the pm you sent could you please send it to me? i've been looking into the high intensity training but would be new to it all. tabata protocol looks good but is still a bit further down the road for me.
a PM of the workout would be greatly appreciated

And quit smoking if you smoke, cigarettes/tobacco are as bad as beer in my experience.
