Well lads, only 3 days to English Paper II.

My Macbeth and Comparative are fine but I'm struggling with my bloody poetry.

If you have heard a prediction for a poet, click the option on the poll.

It's a multiple choice poll btw.

    Thanks

    Walcott - Never asked ( I think).
    Montague - 80th Birthday
Bishop - Woman poet, only two on the course, one asked every year and rich came up last year.
Longley - Due to come up.
    Keats - Due also apparently.

My exact choice. I think I'll specialise in Bishop though. I don't see how people don't like her, I find here poetry quite nice!

Walcott and Keats are most likely followed by Bishop who could be replaced by Rich (unlikely) then followed by Longley who could be replaced by Montague (likely).

I'm going to do Walcott and Montague, every other poet for me is just too boring and I can't study them. :o

i will be thinking of you on thursday morning, there is no way of knowing who or what is going to come up. im just saying its kinda risky only studying 1 poet.

My whole class is banking on the Young English Poet himself.
He should come up though. Something of an older order poet always comes up allegedly, and as there's only one on the course...

its fairly easy to predict the poetry really. and i think you have to predict in many subjects cause there is just no other way of getting the work covered. and i relly hate english so i have been cutting the work load a bit

Prescribed Poetry = 12.5% marks of the overall paper

    Im more worried about Macbeth

Macbeth is worth only 10 marks extra. Lol.

try looking into Kingship- writing about the three different types of kingship(Duncan,Macbeth and Malcom)
Evil or Deception may come up also, you can mention witches in both.

Yeah the big trouble is Longley and Montague are very similar, so it's likely one or the other will come up, but not both.

Bishop will probably come up, but Rich could also come up as the female poet.

I'm still only confident in my Longley answer so I should probably do something on Bishop tonight/tomorrow!

As a mature student, I found it hard to get my head around the layout of the paper and the Comparative was my worst area, I have learned off a few useful phrases like, in contrast, similarly, however,in the same way,on the other hand, etc.

I find it alot harder to study for. In the comparative and poetry ya can kinda prep for answers by making points. For Macbeth theres just so much!

Yeah, I'm pretty **** at Macbeth. Didn't answer it too well in the Mocks, not expecting a great result with it this time round.

    There is always

    1. Usa woman (bishop falls into here)

1 classic (keats only one. Last up 2001)

1 irish man (longley or montague)

1 other that doesnt fall into the other areas (walcot or larkin)

Its been like that for the last twenty years or so my grinds teacher says

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

Is Bishop a near certainty so?

If yes, please thank this post.

That is rather helpful the day before the exam. (Two days, if you're counting it as P2, I suppose...)

Anyway, I'm learning Bishop, and Walcott, and glancing over Longley. I possibly already posted this in this thread, but I'm too tried to remember so whatevs. Hopefully a nice question comes up on one of them :)

The new course was only examined for the first time in 2001 and the the lists of poets change every year so the basis for all these predictions (they 'always'/'never' ask.....)is a bit shaky! The mocks are also no indication of what will come up - they are set by teachers working for DEB/Examcraft etc ....don't rely on who or what came up in mocks when trying to predict the real LC papers.

I am thinking of just doing 3 poets.Longley, Montague and Bishop.I amn't sure if this a big risk or not.It seems somewhat safe I would've though but then again "expect the unexpected"

I think it was Longley's 80th this year as well though... It's definitely Montagues and someone elses....

If Keats doesn't come up in the paper tomorrow people, think of me, think of poor JammyDodger. The joys of only studying one poet.
