Just wondering why people spend more money to buy a ps3 instead of a xbox, I bought mine because I had an original xbox and the 360 came out not long after the original one came out, therefore they stop the production of game for it:mad:.Never really happened for the playstation it was still going stong well after the xbox even though it was released before xbox so thats why i chose a ps3:)

I have both, but I prefer my PS3 for the higher amount of exclusive content than I like, and the blu-ray functionality, and general niceness and flexibility of the hardware. If I could only have one system's exclusive content it would be Sony's, they've a bigger and more mature publishing strategy (mature in the sense that their studios are more established and have had longer to refine their franchises, and there's a bit more nostalgia value for me). I had a HDTV from about 2004 and had my eye on blu-ray ever since too, so it was icing on the cake for PS3 to come with that.

But I'm quite happy to have access to both system's libraries. So much of it overlaps, but a lot of the really good stuff can often be exclusive to one or the other.

I have both. I prefer PS3 due to absolutley zero problems since i got it (launch week) whereas i have had multiple 360's in that timeperiod, between RROD and not reading discs etc.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,316 ✭✭✭✭amacachi

I've had a 360 longer, got the PS3 because it was cheap as ****. Haven't had any issues with the 360 at all and much prefer it for any multi-platform games that have come out, always end up getting demos for the XBox rather than the PS3.

Only for the Blu-Ray on the the PS3 I would've sold it for a little profit when I got it.

    i didnt

ive got both (and a wii, psp and ds)

I have both 360 and PS3. I prefer the 360 for playing games on online and PS3 for multimedia capabilities.

If a game comes out on both, I usually go with 360 out of habbit because I got it first and am more used to the controller now. I have a few PS3 games but sometimes a game that is out on both I will purchase for PS3 instead because I think I need more games for the console and I feel I need to get more use out of it for what it was supposed to do. Also sometimes because I don't want fan noise to annoy me while I play.

I've got both too. I prefer the xbox as a console, simply because of xbox live. It's really amazing compared to playstation online. All my friends play on live too so I like that I can play/talk with them all the time. There's some great games on the playstation though (uncharted, killzone 2 and mgs4) and the blueray player is great so I'm pretty happy with both. It's nice to get all the exclusives too.

Hmm. I hated the original xbox, loathed it really. So when the 360 came out i still had that impression in my head and i told myself i'd wait until the ps3 was released. I use my ps3 as a multimedia hub, music, dvd, bluray and the odd game :P

I got the 360 in september mainly because i wanted to play fable 2 and GOW. Now though all i use it for is playing cod:waw. If i had been thinking clearly at the time i would have got cod:waw for the ps3, but meh :/

iv both but the ps3 is used the most

iv the jasper 360 but its still louder than my ps3

Bought a PS3 because theres not many "big hitters" on the 360 that are not on the PC...or will eventually come out on the PC , Plus paying a online subscription for me is a huge no no. Plus BluRay ftw :pac:

Paying for onlne is a biggie for me. I just downright prefer the PS3 exclusives and Blu Ray was an added bonus. Even on my 20'' the difference is big.

thats another negative about the 360 - its very loud in play, and also prone to overheating.

Have to agree with the Live subscription thing. It is a load of crap having to pay for online like that.

Steam offers most of the same features (all the important ones anyway) for free with a much smaller user base and less advertising so there is no defense for charging for online IMO.

Sony need to develop a few online features soon I think. They don't seem to be priortising it for some reason and I don't think the developers think it is worth developing them for each game when it would be much easier to have some of that stuff system wide and it makes more sense. I think there is probably a little war going on there where Sony want developers to do a lot of the online stuff since they aren't charging but the developers just aren't bothering because they can sell their game on Xbox without developing those features and that is where the biggest online console audience is. That is why Sony need to get it together as they are the only ones really losing out by not having these features IMO although I'd rather the service was free than had the features. Certainly wouldn't buy a subscription for each console. Feel bad enough paying for Live.

So out of interest does anyone own a PS3 on here that does not have a 360?

    I don't.

Always thought I would eventually though but now the Fallout DLC is coming to the PS3 anyway.

They are cheap and may get cheaper though so I may still get one.

I've had a playstation since they came out, couldn't imagine not having a playstation to be honest. Theres nothing on the xbox that makes me want to buy one.

Had the xbox 360 for about 12 months but because it was so loud I sold it and got a PS3. Have had no regrets about doing so.

I don't know why everyone is complaining about paying for xbox live. It's leaps and bounds ahead of the online for ps3. Live really is extremely polished, has loads of great features and connectivity and it's worth every penny imo. The PS3 is a great machine too but it's online mode sucks compared to xbox live.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 645 ✭✭✭StopNotWorking

I bought my PS3 because my old boss sold me his 60GB one for 250E including some cables and games ;)

I sold it off for the same price though, I prefer PC gaming.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭thebman

Because Pc online has all those things and doesn't cost a dime.

Live costs peanuts to run and their is feck all investment. It has ads and yet they charge. Its ridiculous IMO.

I imagine the ads alone would pay for it but hey this is a company that was charging for avatars so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Live is better than PSN in a few ways. Nothing that would make me want to pay 40 quid a year for though. I have no problem playing games online on psn andits free.

went for ps3 cos of blu ray and no online fee

Main reasons I bought a 360 over a PS3, in order of priority:

    Free online
    Upgradable HDD
Blu-ray (mainly because I see the storage capacity being utilized more and more as games evolve)
Noise level (a lot lower than the 360)
PS3 Exclusives (I liked a lot more of the upcoming PS3 games than the 360s)

I also have to admit, I was apprehensive about the whole RROD cases going around. I wanted to play GTAIV on release so was going to be getting a console anyway. At that time a lot of social media sites had stories about 360's failing, so on top of my other reasons, this pretty much sealed the deal.

Oh and yeah, paying for online is ridiculous. My friend said he let his 360 subscription expire and he was no longer allowed to download free demos, what a complete joke.

I got plenty of free demos and free car add-ons for Forza 2 while not having a Gold membership.

Id say he meant he couldnt download straight away. This Gold users get to download the demos a week before silver IIRC

I have both and the PS3 gets used very rarely. I just prefer the 360 exclusives and if there's ever a multiformat release I'd always get it for the 360 since it has a better controller, the games look and run nicer and xbox live is so much better than PSN.

Same reasons as me. I had a PS1 and then went to the Xbox and then on to the 360. Controller is far better for shooters especially. Paying for Live is well worth it too considering the price difference of the two consoles, no HD cable supplied with the PS3 and no headset with the PS3.

I actually couldnt believe there wasnt even a component cable in the PS3 box when I got it home. Its not something I had read before so was a surprise. Audio quality on wireless headsets isnt great either.

I'd played a friend's 360 a few times before I got my PS3, I thought the much hyped Halo 3 online was a load of dreary, awkward, laggy shíte... absolutely nothing UT2004 hadn't done a million times better on the PC many years before... for free. (64 player Onslaught anyone?)

At that point I became less interested in the online console gaming, and thought "well even if I don't like the PS3 games, it's still a solid bluray/media player". with Metal Gear Solid 4 and Resident Evil 5 on my mind, I went ahead with PS3.

The 360 was too loud for me as well, especially in a media centre role.
The red-ring-of-death stuff was enough to seal the deal. who needs to deal with that shít? Not me.

I've no regrets. I think if the PS3 had a tv tuner and DVR capabilities it'd be the ultimate home entertainment device :)

I payed ~€360 for my PS3, which you'd easily blow on a graphics card for the PC. I wouldn't have payed what ever mad money they were when they first came out, something like €700?! I don't remember the exact price, but I remember thinking they could fúck right off!

    I also now have both.

Initially though got the PS3 when it came out.

    > Back catalogue of PS1 and PS2 games - my PS3 plays em all
    > Blu Ray
    > RROD on the 360 - all of my mates who got a 360 got at least 1 or 2 RRODs - so I waited until earlier this year :)

    Love both
PS3 - my main multimedia hub
    360 - Fable & Fable 2
    Free demo downloads
Downloadable PSP titles and old PS1 ones (most are naff though)

    Hate
Lack of next gen games for PS3
    Noise if the "newer" 360
Paying Gold to see adds that should be paying for the service; just don't get that (well I do but have decided to be nice today)

For common games I now get em on 360 - so my brothers can play too.
Exclusives or games I know my brothers will not touch - get em on PS3.

Hate Micro$oft for a start, didn't like the XBox controller, and had too many PS1 and Ps2 games to start buying up again for a different console. Love the PS3.

I gots both, Live is a much better multiplayer experience but tbh if halo was on ps3 my xbox would be in the bin, marketplace is over price and the damn thing is completly defunked as a media hub cus its so loud. I was very happy with my xbox before i got a pS3 now im not so sure.that said i do prefer the xbox controller..(except for streetfighter 4)
    Its great to have both.

Have to say I hope Sony get their act together for PS4 as regards online features and stealing some exclusives from Ms as I'd prefer not to buy another Ms console.

The 360 has shown that Ms doesn't do hardware well and hell even the software crashes a fair bit on me. The console with 3 processors doesn't like to do 2 things at once for the user.

PS3 has crashed on me too but only twice. 360 has crashed a couple of dozen times although it does get more use for playing games. I don't like the 360 hardware wise or dashboard wise and hope Sony retake the market next time and I wasn't really a big Playstation fan as I had a Gamecube and Pc instead with the previous round of consoles.

I hate the XBOX 360 controller
I liked the idea of not having to pay to play a game online
    I wanted a Bluray player
Horror stories about failing 360's at the time

They were the main reasons why I got a PS3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,735 ✭✭✭✭noodler

Yeh but we're only comparing consoles here. Obviously you're going to have more options with a PC. I actually prefer xbox live to playing pc games online (well except for MMOs). With xbox live, everyone seems 'linked',there's a better sense of community with cross-game chat, friends, achievements etc...

Xbox live could be free yes,but I have no problem paying such an insignificent amount for such a great service.

I have never had a problem playing a game on PSN which is the main thing for me.

Over four years or more LIVE ends up costing around 200e. I would prefer a Blu Ray player, better made console, upgradeable HDD etc for that.

My biggest PS3 gripe is the (relatively-its not like I notice unless I see a comparison) poor multi-platform performance of some games compared to the 360.

Well you can get 13 months of live for 30 euro so that isn't really the case if you shop around :P

It still comes to the price of 2-4 games over the 4 years though.

I can get a much cheaper PS3 if I shop around.

I can get a headset with pretty decent quality if I shop around etc etc etc

You use that argument for almost everything to be fair.

Not that you are wrong of course

Yeah well I wouldn't use it as an excuse except I don't know anyone that pays full price for Live :D

Some people willing to waste their time, don't pay anything and can get by on month free subscriptions by getting them off people online and getting them with their new games..

The quality differences between Live and PSN are vastly over-rated. If PSN adds cross-game invites and cross-game voice chat, there's little more I'd want from it that Live has. PSN has improved a lot since the system launched, the check-list it needs to meet is pretty short now.

I also appreciate certain PSN features in games that support them that Live hasn't got round to yet (e.g. youtube uploading).

At the end of the day the most important thing to me is the core gaming experience online, and Live carries no guarantees about that despite paying for it. The quality of online play in a number of even the highest profile 360 games (e.g. GoW & GoW2) leave a lot to be desired, and nothing about Live changes that. If a developer doesn't make the online experience great, Live won't save it. Whereas a lot of the higher profile PSN games have very good developer support in terms of things like dedicated servers and the like. Most of the smoothest (console) online play I've had has been on PS3.

The only reason I don't really like online games on the pc is because it all seems a bit anonymous, kind of hard to break into the communities etc... but that's just me. I still love playing MMOs on PC,but for normal online games I'd get it on the 360 or the ps3 if it's a playstation exclusive.

Don't get me wrong,I love both consoles. I just think they have different things going for them, and xbox live is one of the reasons I like the 360. I'm not saying I prefer it overall to the ps3, as there's some amazing games on the playstation and it's a great multimedia device.

which ps3 game lets you upload to psn?

The video uploading feature in the OS is for youtube, not for a proprietary PSN service. Although there are some games that let you upload things to the PSN specifically e.g. GT Prologue ghosts, LittleBigPlanet levels obviously etc. The games with youtube uploading are mostly psn stuff, pain, pixeljunk, noby noby boy etc. I'd like to see that standard in all games, if not on PS3, then certainly with the next machine.

    I don't know, I don't follow who owns who.

I would have thought Ms was just the publisher on a lot of the games and if the studio went with another publisher they could go cross platform.

One reason I got a 360 was for GTA4 DLC.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 331 ✭✭glaston

This might sound daft but for me brand loyalty was a big factor.

Funny because when the PS One was launched I didnt think much of it; discs that take time to load, games with more cut scenes than playing time etc. Just thought N64 was superior in every way, GOLDENEYE !!!

Hardware failures and having to pay for online gaming are a bit of a deterrent. Having said that 360 is a good system with a nice controller.

I have both, but if I had to choose one, my PS3 is coming with me. It has come along in leaps and bounds and I love mine to bits.

Ever since my 360 started giving me trouble hardware-wise, and that stupid childish Wii-like Dashboard was introduced I really went off the 360.. then Gears 2 came out and was a mess, I went to PS3 full time.

Microsoft are a horrible company and the 360 feels old and clunky.
Fair play to Sony for finally pulling through with the goods.
