Hi all, I'm collecting written permission from a second land owner in the morning, I already have the first in writing. I plan on going straight to my local station then. So I will have the written permission from two land owners, and a receipt from the gunshop. Its a .22 break barrel air-rifle I'm applying for a cert for. This is my first time to apply have I got all the stuff I need? Is there anything else I need to make the application?

    Cheers.

You should be oK with what you now have.

Best of luck and hope you don't have to wait to long for the license.

Cheers lads, thanks. It was just a neurotic check to make sure I wasn't forgetting anything. The local gunshop reckons it takes about 3 months for the process up here. I'm in Louth.

Shooting insurance eg IFA Countryside or CAI (unless you have NARGC) would be desirable IMO

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,461 ✭✭✭foxshooter243

if your living with your parents , then a letter from the householder to give you permission to keep a firearm in their home may be asked for;)

These do individual membership and you don't need to be in a club and you only need one of them NOT both. A lot of Gardai look for insurance cover too.

And best of luck with the application ;)

the insurance you get would be a help trying get permission in new places to shoot!i pressume it covers injury to farm animals which i think would have some farmers more at ease for you to hunt

Dealer who sold you stuff should have advised you of this :(

Insurance is very important for you and for landowners peace of mind.

Think IFA Countryside is €70 per year but the discounts available are very good and €70 is just over €1 per week which is cheap insurance :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,149 ✭✭✭bazza888

ts brill at 70e and 50e if you do a direct debit!everyone i asked before today said join a club to get insured!id love to but didnt have the money for it!so i can now be insured and have peace of mind.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,096 ✭✭✭bunny shooter

    Clubs are an option too.

Traditional "game" clubs are usually NARGC insured which including club membership and insurance would usually be around €100 per year.

Shooting ranges membership could cost anything up to €500 for the 1st year and €275ish thereafter, which would include insurance too.

As an individual IFA or CAI offer good rates too

the gun club where i am is 300 for the first year 150 after that, but is mostly shotguns.if i had 300 to spare id join!so i think ifa is the way for me at the moment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,754 ✭✭✭Odysseus

Well I have just applied now. I was told they would ring me in 7-10 days with the Super's decision at that point they will then send the paperwork to Dublin. I was told that if the Super grants my request I will then have to get a gun safe before the licence would be granted.

All the best BUT I am waiting 3 x months on my latest application - phone call to Super on Tuesday :) to see what's happeneing

All depends on efficiency and attitude of your Super & FAO. MY FAO is not the problem tbh it's the Super

It's taken 8 weeks for the Garda in the village to check the gun details are correct. Now it's gone up to the Super for approval so this is week 9.

Anybody know if they will issue licences under the old system one year or will they make us wait for the new three year licences, supposedly due in August??

When you get your license if it is in the current year then you will pay the €38 for whats left of this current year, May and June.

You will then have to pay for next years license when it becomes due, July on.

What station in Louth are you applying for the licence in? I got mine all done and dusted in about four weeks.

So it will most likely be july before they issue my licence it now being June!! will the 3 year licence be in by then??

Clogherhead is my local station, so the paperwork went to the super in Drogheda. Where did you apply yourself?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 112 ✭✭midlouth

Drogheda looked after mine too and they were very quick about it around Aug last year. I was told by my local station to expect a delay as renewals were being issued at the time, but luckily there was no delay. Just have your paper work all in order, it is all you can do when initially applying. Give them a ring in a week or two to follow it up and that it was forwarded on to Drogheda.

Typical bear ****e stuff, I met my local Guard at the polling station today, seems that Dublin have no problems with me, the rappidly middle ageing, pillar of society type that I am so I should get my licence in the next few days, I'll end up paying 38 euro for less than a months licence, makes the three year one look cheap!!! Now wheres them bear's!!!:D

Just an up date on my situation and some basic questions. I spoke to the FAO yesterday, he say he is waiting on the paperwork from the Super. He will get back to me then, and that it will then be sent off to Dublin . He told me I can take it for granted that I will get.

My first question is if the Super says yes, can this be overuled in Dublin or if it just a formality? Secondly, they want me to get a gun safe, I went in to my local dealer today, he had just sold his last one, but will have more soon. He told me he stocks two type `costing 175 euro and another for 195.

Now with knowing the model is this a reasonable price for one?

    Cheers.

If the Super says yes, then you've got the certificate. The folks in the Phoenix Park just handle the paperwork.

You should be able to pick up a gun cabinet for around the 120 mark. Try Clarkes Sports Den in Navan or Top Shop in Drogheda. If it is only one rifle and some amo you are storing then you won't need a massive safe.

I'm on month 5  and I was told yesterday by a dealer that they are issuing no more licences until the new system is up and running. Only thing is he is prone to talk ****e

Bunny, the delay might be due to you giving up your pistols. Before you ask  why. I had a .22lr rifle and put in for a .22 Hornet. I got the 2nd one after alot of phone calls. Had to explane the difference between the two to the super. After awhile I lost interest in the .22lr as the hornet done all I needed it to do. So I sold the .22lr.

Ever since that ANY application ive made has been held up. Ive asked why and have been told that its on my record that I had two rifles in .22 then I sold one (after Ringing and ringing the super over it). So then the super thinks im not serious about my applications and so questions every one of them.

Its the irish way. Seems they would of been happier to let me have the 2 rifles then sell one of them
