Married couple, one income, early twenties, no kids, one cat, 2 bed apt in Galway City

Rent = 750 (last September was the cheapest apartment available in the area, rents have come down though so I aim to get it down by at least 100 euro in autumn)
Electric = 80 (just switched to Airtricity so I'm not entirely sure how much that will save us, supposedly 11%)
    Internet/Phone = 40
    Mobiles x 2 = 40 (at most)
    TV license = 14 (no cable/sky since Dec 07)
Grocery = 250 (Food + Cleaning Products + Hygeine, most from Lidl)
Medical = 150 (come next month will be 0)
Health Ins = 60 (Mr. only, through his work)
Entertainment = 150 (we went waaaay over budget this month though, due to Volvo Ocean race + visitors... :()
Bike maintenance = 15 (they need tubes, patches, oil, the odd battery for the lights, new tools, etc)
Cat = 30 (kitty litter, food, treats, toys - most of which we buy online. does not include yearly vet)
    Personal spending = 140 (Mr.) 100 (Me) = 240

That doesn't leave us with much left over, but we try our hardest stay under budget and to put money into savings every month. Mr Xiney is paid monthly, and whatever is left in the current acc. gets swept straight into savings on payday.

I make a budget for the month on payday, taking into account events we know are happening (for example family birthdays or if a movie is coming out, the cost of seeing it) so that we have it budgeted for. This is the first month in ages that we've screwed up our budget, and that was mainly because the weather was so good and we couldn't believe how amazing the Volvo Ocean Race was. It was a once in a lifetime experience though, so we don't mind if we have to have a leaner few weeks on food and entertainment for a while.
