Have you ever actually taken a real IQ test (real doesn't include any facebook app, internet quiz or something you made up in the bath tub while reenacting the denouement of Das Boot with your genitals) and if so what was your result? I did one recently and was quite surprised at the results.

Who actually has the Highest ever IQ?

Sorry to go off topic but was it that German novelist Goethe or was it Newton or one of those lads?

It is highly unlikely that lucky guesses would come across as a genuine high IQ in anything like a rigorous IQ test. Most IQ tests have several options, as many as 8, and a large number of questions. Also, IQ testing can involve the completion of a number of different tests, which means that recording a high IQ due to chance alone is so improbable that it will probably never happen, and if it does, it will not be repeatable.

I scored quite well on mine as my result meant I fell easily within the top 2% required for Mensa. But guess what? It pretty much counts for nothing, and sure as hell did nothing for me when I was made redundant a few months back.:p

If this becomes another Mensa thread, I will pan-fry a kitten.

    My WISC-III score was 135

I've been properly tested a few times and the last one I did was both flattering and unbelievable. I make it my mission in life to disprove my score.

The fact that IQ doesn't necessarily mean success is old news. I constantly fail exams in college and am basically going to be homeless unless I can find some way to apply myself despite the fact that my raw IQ was in the top 2 % of those tested. While doing a bit of research in the weeks leading up to the test I found nothing more annoying than the weird pity that high IQ underachievers seem to think they deserve. I have never applied myself in an academic setting apart from the last few weeks approaching the leaving cert in order to get the points for the course my friends were going for, and I accept that this is my fault entirely. Many high IQ wasters seem to think that they deserve success, which others less well endowed gain through hard work, by virtue of their high IQ alone. A lot of what accounts for a high IQ is abstract reasoning which is often useless in an academic setting. Rant over.

read something about 1 year ago, that the person with the highest IQ in Europe is working for Tesco, in England as a check out girl. I don't think it's about IQ anyway it's how you apply yourself.

They brought somebody ito secondary school to give us all one. Got 180ish, not that simple maths/logic/spatial questions can tell people how intelligent they are.
There was also some aptitude test in all schools, dunno what that was for though. It ranged from maths to clerical accuracy marking people out of 99 in each.

If you actually got 180 ish, congrats, you beat Einstein

'Intelligence' has very clear conceptual limits in psycohmetrics, partly the reason it is largely discredited in academia

The poster with the high result is undoubtedly intelligent, but within the conceptual limits of 'intelligence' as measured through the test, it ignores a range of characteristics - positive or negative - that condition success.

The IQ instrument measures a specific range of attributes (mathematics, verbal reasoning etc...) - psychometrics has often been argued against as a flawed methodology because there are many attributes and qualities of a person that do not lend themselves well to standardized measurement; motivation, aspiration, emotional intelligence is one I see mentioned quite a bit popularly now....

The test also suffers from poor re-test reliability and sample bias

I don't think Einstein ever did an iq test? and having a higher iq doesn't mean you will be better than an idiot savant(not that he was one) in their field or give you a flare for what you do like he had.

I did one of these yokes too when I was a kid. My family thought I was some sort of child prodigy I think. I did pretty well too, don't know the exact score but it was in the top 2 percentile ranking of....something. Pity alcohol and drugs has destroyed all my best brain cells :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,814 ✭✭✭TPD

Did one of them aptitude tests in school, was in the top 2% of the country at spacial relations, and the top 30% in the country at clerical speed and accuracy. The other 4-5 subjects (?) were between top 2% and top 30%.

Im lazy as shíte though, so I doubt anything will come of it. In the interest test, which we did around the same time, everything was under 30% interest, even the ones I had specifically marked that I intended to do in college. So I'm able but uninterested. Heh sums me up alright I think.

Where do you get these tests? Does it cost much?

IQ tests are puzzle books, you really shouldn't build your view of yourself on what a puzzle book says...
I got some IQ tests done as part of some SLD testing, decent score but I still find menus difficult to read some times.

Do people put their IQ on their CV? I've never heard of someone doing it, but considering the value that it's given it seems kinda strange that people don't.

Did one when I was a kid, dunno which one it was but I was around the 130 mark which sounds about right to me -- above average but not super intelligent. Still, at least my socks match most days and I can engage with other human beings moderately successfully ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,658 ✭✭✭Patricide

I did mine and got a 135, also did the DAT and scored in the top few % in the country, Yet ive still dropped out of college 4 times in 2 years and only got 375 in me leaving.

Shows you that they dont mean jack.
