Depends what you're doing in the gym...

    Weights - eat food first

Cardio - just water would be okay, but imo a protein shake is good before cardio

This is what I have before weights when working out in the morning
    • Shake: Oats, water, whey
    • Apple / Orange / Banana

Cheers lads , its a mixed programme, cardio and weights to try and get rid of the blubber.
dont want to get weak or to be throwing up on the treadmill.

It really depends on the person, I could easily go for a 13 mile run first thing in the morning on an empty stomach while some people would feel weak after a couple of miles if they did that and some 'experts' would completely advise against what I do. I think it's really easier to just try out doing both and seeing what works best for you to be honest.

I tend to roll out of bed in the morning and head straight to the gym on an empty stomach. I find that I can't eat much of anything for a while before a workout or I just feel really sluggish and tired. Usually a decent meal in the evening will tide me over for a weights session the next morning, I'd sometimes grab a slice of brown bread on the way out the door if Im feeling a bit peckish though

Pretty much spot on what i have, except i changed from oats to wholewheat noodles as i find it easier to chow down in the morning (oats takes me ages to eat :(). Works out about 120-140 grams of carbs which is just right for me to keep me fuelled

I have a quick bowl of porridge (the M&S microwaveable stuff) before leaving the gaff and find it keeps me satisfied in the gym and leaves me hungry afterwards.
