Back exercises... but with conditions!

Right, so basically I have a back condition where I can't really do any exercises involving large amounts of weight in the unsupported bent over position e.g. deadlifts of any sort, bent over rows, t-bar rows etc.

I've been doing chins, pulls, dumbell rows (using bench for support) and so on but I'm looking for some new exercises. I realise its limiting as the best mass-building exercises are unavailable. It's a pain in the ass but something I have to deal with for the time being (I can't squat either).

    Any suggestions?

Could do cable rows, rope face pulls, reverse cable flies, seated row, inverted rows, straight arm cable pulldown.

All of these suggestions are based on you feeling comfortable doing them.

May we pry as to what's the condition? Some of the trainers might have dealt with clients with similar issues. Then we might be able to recommend solutions or specialists in that area.

Well its still in the diagnosis stage, but so far two discs have been identified with mild degenerative changes. While its quite mild and not as such a big problem, it's establishing the cause that is the issue; I'm awaiting blood test results for various inflammatory conditions.

I also have snapping hip syndrome and awaiting an X-Ray on that one. Great craic!
