MUST HAVE A MAINLAND GB ADDRESS FOR DELIVERY OF DONGLE & SIM

Just ordered these myself, will let you know how it goes.

    1. http://www.3dongle4free.co.uk Register for email, total cost delivered to UK £4.95.
    2. Download this to unlock it Free
    3. Oder one of these sims to same UK address. £2.79
    4. Activate the sim for £10.
You will then have a wireless and mobile device that works on all UK hotspots for a year. Total cost £17.74

Obviously you also have a sim free dongle, so while in Ireland you can put your own sim in and use as normal.

You could just download it to find out.

I put that rapidshare link into google and got the following page which also lists another method of debranding the 3 modem. There is also at least one confirmation that the rapidshare application works as well.

Good Question, but then you need a bluetooth dongle on your PC.
Also you would not be able to make or receive calls on your phone (assuming the O2 sim is not your usual phone number) while doing any browsing. You could not loan it to your friends or family. Opening up and swapping sim's regularly would get old pretty quick as well I'd imagine.

    Er, £10 + £2.79 + £4.95 = £17.74

Can someone clarify this for me. I buy the dongle and get it unlocked, buy a regular sim here and get a data add-on. Is that it? If it is, can you use a prepay sim(preferably voda).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,736 ✭✭✭ch750536

No, you have to buy the sim from ebay. Specifically an o2 UK iphone sim.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Is this only for use in the UK or can it be used in Ireland too? What do you mean when you say "You will then have a wireless and mobile device that works on all UK hotspots for a year"... does this not actually connect to the 3G 3 network, but only hotspots located around the UK? So if you're in 3G coverage, but not a hotspot, it wont work and it wont work in Ireland at all? Bit confused:o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,736 ✭✭✭ch750536

You will have unlimited 3g & wireless connection. Most of the time the wireless connection is faster hence the nicety of the added extra.
Is for use in UK only although the dongle would be sim free and therefore would take an Irish sim at Irish rates when in Ireland.

When you go to register there is only an option for country as UK, has anyone managed to get this delivered to Ireland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

What would the Irish rates be do you know? I guess this would work in Northern Ireland no problem? Can it be used in other 3 countries like France etc?

Almost certainly will not deliver to Ireland. I have a colleague in UK whoI am delivering to.

I spend 3 days a month in the UK so I will use it then.

Once it is flashed it has nothign to do with 3 unless you choose to put a 3 sim into it.

For example. You could be in Jamaica and put a 'Smokin' Telecom' sim in it and connect to 'Smokin' Telecom's' service, you would have to check with them for rates & charges.

The same applies for Ireland or anywhere else in the world.

This gives you an unlocked USB Mobile modem for £4.95 that you can use anywhere.

If you choose to buy the O2 UK IPhone sim and put it in then it will give you unlimited UK wireless and 3g internet for 1 year at a cost of £10.

Do you need an address in the uk to get this?

The simple difference between the dongle is like was mentioned already for a start you would need bluetooth.
Secondly, unless you have a 3g data tarrif on your phone you wil pay a lot more for the data that you use. Even if you have a data tarrif (something like a sim out of an iPhone) you will still get less MB to the € than you will if you get a pay as you go sim from 3 or O2.
As far as i remember the price on 3 is €25 for 10GB but expires after 30days of topping up. I dont reallly know about the data tarrif on mobile phones though.
Also about the sim card, im confused as to why the OP said "you have to get one from ebay.."
Whats the difference with walking into an O2 outlet and asking them for a sim card set up for a usb dongel and just getting one for €10 off them, if they are even €10 anymore a lot of networks are doing some for free.

Like the look of the offer though, if anyone has actually tried this and had it delivered to ROI please let us know.

    EDIT:

Have you actually tried this and have it working? Because ive used Meteor, 3 and O2 versions and they all had an interface which you needed to connect to the network with ie. a user id and password.
Its not plug and play in that when you plug it in it just connects and works, also how do you keep track of the data used?
If it just resets it to some sort of factory interface that works the same way do you have a list of settings that each network will more than likely require?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,813 ✭✭✭BaconZombie

Look like the free wifi and data is meant to be a iPhone ONLY offer:

Please note: This sim card is supposed to soley be used in the iPhone only, although it works in other phones the free internet bolt on may be stopped by O2 at any time.

    Thanks for the info.

Do three offer that €10 for 20gb non expiring package in Ireland or is that the UK? That would be perfect for me if it lasted a few months!

    hey,
My post said €20 for 10GB not €10 for 20GB and after checking its actually €25
Just double checked it actually does expire after 30days from topping up LINK
plus you have the obvious cost of paying for the dongle.
Which is where this offer shines through if you can get the dongle for that £5ish delivered to ROI then your laughing.

There is also a pay monthly option of LINK of €20 a month for 18months with a 15GB cap each month.

    LINK to O2's price plans
    LINK to Meteor's price plans

EDIT: This should answer all questions

The User & Pass part of it is controlled by the sim, not the dongle.
I have hacked many 3 and vodafone dongles for friends to allow better connection software & it has worked well.

Again, depends on the sim & the company.

    Slightly off topic, but semi-related.

I have an unlocked usb modem and I want to use meteor's PAYG 50mb/99c per day tariff instead of the Broadband togo day pass.

Mostly because I use very little data any time I use it so the day pass is way more more expensive than it's worth.

I've tried using a pre-pay sim in the modem, and while it works (I can send receive texts to it), I cannot get online through the data APN.

Do data modems only work when you have a broadband APN enabled?

    Define dodgy?

    Stolen? no.

Intended for UK Iphone only? Yes, but that is their issue not yours.

    Worst case, you lose £10.

Would the 3 UK dongle be deliverable to the BT1 1AA address for ROI?

Is it possible to unlock a Vodafone dongle and run a 3 sim on it?

    Cheers.

I'm thinking of the Vodafone E172.

Well, I got the sim today, its an Iphone pay and go. The back of the package says its a pay and go sim exclusively for iphone 3g, not to be resold as sim only. Front says Unlimited O2 web and wi-fi access for 12 months.

Dont know if its breaking the law for that guy to sell these. No sign of the usb jobby from 3 yet.

Not many people know this, but you can use a regular 3 SIM with a mobile access dongle. Just insert and buy your add ons through the user interface site which is accesible through the 3 site.

These devices have an IMEI, so, quite possibly, 3 will link the IMEI to your details.

From the original site where I got the offer

    http://www.speedtest.net/result/484845649.png

    works fine.

"I installed the Telus software on my pc and the Global Connection Manager on the mrs's laptop and I get a connection on both ok.
I registered the iPhone sim on a Nokia 6300 (3g phone - might make a difference) and topped it up at a cashpoint."

I picked up one of the ZTE MF627 UK modems off ebay a while back and unlocked it easily enough for free only issue is flashing the modem with the new software turned it into a ZTE MF626, but no worries it still works fine with both 3 UK and 3 IRL sims.

Thanks to OP , fantastic deal :)

I got it working, getting 280kbps down and 351kbps up (bits not bytes) ... and thats in a 3G area.

Note that after reflashing there is no connection manager on it any more (but it did appear to have drivers etc on it), but the rapidshare download includes Telstra connection manager software that did the job.

These are the settings that I found while searching, I am using the middle one...
    APN: mobile.o2.co.uk
    Dial Number - *99#user
    Username: mobileweb
    Password: password
    Primary DNS: 192.113.200.200
    Secondary DNS: 192.113.200.201

I have also seen sites that say you should use:
    O2 UK (pre-pay)
    Dial Number - *99#user
    APN: payandgo.o2.co.uk
    payandgo
    payandgo
(use "obtain DNS server address automatically")

And if neither of those work you can try:
    Config Filename - O2
    Dial Number - *99#user
    User Name - Vertigo
    Password - password
    APN name - payandgo.o2.co.uk
(use "obtain DNS server address automatically")

I just connected it to my laptop (for the first time) and found that it has connection manager software. It was showing up as a F drive CD ROM and I let it install "Globe Visibility" manager. Its similar to the Telstra manager and inputting the information I used in the Telstra connection manager software got me connected in no time.

After I installed the software it seemed to install additional drivers for the device and now when I look there is no sign of the CD ROM instead there is a removable disk - (probably for the micro-sd slot).

Its a bit odd but as you only need to install the software once I suppose it nicer than seeing a CD-ROM all the time that you never use.

/edit Speed is a bit slow here....

Ah, I thought you had gone through the full ordering process. When you register they send you an email that contains a code that you have to enter when ordering the dongle and that makes the dongle cost zero, the £4.95 they charge is postage and packing.
