Last year I applied for a role got through two rounds of interview and apptitude test the employer asked for refrences etc.. Then got back to me to say the position was on hold due the organisation looking at whether the position is needed. Well the position is now back being advertised and my circumstances mean I am back on the job market! Should I apply or not? Did the employer just give me a friendly brush off !

    Thanks in advance

What have you got to lose by applying again? The worst that can happen is that you don't get interviewed or don't get offered the job.

I suppose so I think I may apply directly instead of the advert referring to previous contact. Thanks for your reply.

yes its definitely worth applying again - it shows you are still on the market and are still interested in the position... you have nothing to lose....

Absolutely no reason why you couldnt apply again.

But be aware, they might jerk you around again!

Sounds like it was a budget problem.

i don't think it was a budget problem...employers do what they want and lies are /or just these soft expressions/ are common...you don't know , you might find out in the future...but don't think about their reason now - apply again and don't tell them in advance that you got to this stage. if they ask you -say it as it was.

    I'd go for it.

I used to work with a guy who'd applied for the same job 5 times before he got in. He did fairly well too.

Employers have no reason to lie to a candidate. There is absolutely no reason an employer would say they weren't hiring because of a budget instead of just saying they didn't want the OP

I agree that the employer is quite unlikely to lie about a budget in this specific case. It's not particularly surprising that they re-advertised given that it was a minimum of five months later.

On the other hand I don't agree that employers have no reason to lie to a candidate. A lot of employers will pull out standard clichés to avoid having to explain things. It's easier for someone to roll out sayings like 'over qualified, 'too little experience' and 'better candidate' rather than give honest feedback to a candidate. It's also very difficult for someone to try to cause hassle after an interview if all they have to attack with is a cliché. I'd go so far as to say that it's probably an 'unofficial policy' in a lot of HR departments.
