Giro d'Italia: Blockhaus Predications

Today is going to be a bit of a mental stage. Only 83km long and right up the Blockhaus. There'll be blood on the floor by the end of it. So who do you think is going to win?

And shame on Eurosport for foregoing live coverage on Eurosport 1 for the sake tennis.

I'll go for Garzelli today. Will pop off up the road before the climb and try to hold on while all hell breaks loose behind him.

    Lance.

    Yes, I mean it.

By the way, I despise tennis wise the intensity of a billion suns burning for a billion years. Maybe even more than that. Curse you to HELL eurosport.

Yes, you can. I watched a stage the other day that was on Eurosport 2 on the player. They also seem to be showing stages on demand now, i.e. you can watch after the event.

I'm not entirely sure... I think Lance could do well, as Levi is out of contention now, leaving him free to go for the win, but also I think DiLuca could go for it, but Menchov will cover him, so maybe I'll go for some other sham.... Deignan anyone :p

Will be working on my Italian in front of Rai Sport for the afternoon. At last I have found a use for that random Hotbird feed that seems to be coming into my apartment!

Sastre for the win. Menchov will be all over DiLuca again like a bad smell, Basso will make some failed attempts at attacks, Sastre will do the damage but not win by anything like enough time to trouble Menchov. Lance will be blowing it out his arse while the others mount the attacks. In otherwords the same as the last day.

I never make predictions and I've a feeling I'll be regretting this later :)

Yea I might have to pull a niceonetom.

Menchov will be there abouts for the stage win. Depends on how DiLuca holds up as Menchov will be on his wheel for a lot of the stage.

    Stefano Garzelli
    From Paddypower

    D Di Luca 11/4
    C Sastre 7/2
    D Menchov 9/2
    I Basso 6/1
    S Garzelli 10/1
    F Pellizotti 16/1
    G Simoni 22/1
    L Armstrong 25/1
    J Serpa 25/1

I think sastre will do what he done on the previous stage to take the victory. If i was betting id put €10 each way on Basso.

I miss Sean Kelly's accented tones and insights - plus his sidekick David Harmon.

A day of the favourites marking each other and a day for a supreme climber to emerge from the bunch.

It is hard to look beyond Sastre as he looked so good the other day and there isn't many who can put in those bursts of pace on the steep climbs.

It's okay - I've got a live Audio link now for the Sean and David

WTF was Lance playing at today on the climb? I'd say he'd have a canary if roles were reversed.

I take back what I said earlier, Lance look ****ed at the end.
Menchov though. He must be one hell of an actor to keep a straight face and barely move his body while all around him are busting a gut. Only for he couldn't match DiLuca in the last sprint, you'd have to say something VERY fishy was up. He hardly opened is mouth to breathe. Maybe he has big nostrils.

I know that I went for Sastre because your heart says - that's a clean climber and when he flew up the climb the other day it was a case of a pure
climber leaving others in their wake when the road get's real steep.

But with Di Luca 'the killer' you get the feeling that you are dealing with tainted goods there. I hadn't heard of Menchov until the last previous comment.

It is getting to the stage where you see three riders at the business end of a mountain stage like Blockhaus and you are thinking is the only clean one - two minutes down the road. :(:(:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,222 ✭✭✭✭Lumen

After watching the last couple of stages, I do wonder why some of the riders don't make an effort to look more knackered.

Lance looked clean as a whistle yesterday.

Even if you are totally fried, there is good reason to try and appear relaxed and comfortable. It may encourage your rivals not to attack you, since they would feel there was no point.
