Have they changed the settings so that MyZone won't stay authenticated across browser sessions?

I now have to log in each time manually.

Try signing out and back in again.

Even when you close the browser and open it again?

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 359 ✭✭t0mm

Ok then it signed me out, even though I could still view my inbox on the front page, showed new emails, but when i clicked to view them it made me sign in. How odd.

Sign out, and sign back in again and you'll see what I mean.

I called ISS and they were giving me the usual have you turn it off and all spiel, and then he noticed what I was talking about and only then raised a ticket with google :)

DON'T sign out and back in again, mine was working fine until I did that, now Jonathan has gone and made me brake it.:(

The cookie won't last forever though, when it expires it will be the way it is now.

Don't think simple logic and basic reasoning will let you off the hook one bit mister!

Hello Jonathan,

This was removed to prevent the risk of a students myzone account being compromised in the Public Access Computer Rooms, by saving a password and not properly logging out before leaving the computer.

It was an all or nothing option, so it was deemed necessary to remove this.

Regards
IS Services.

Ah well, could be worse, doesn't affect me all that much as I mostly use IMAP.

Stupid useless students though, I mean seriously, who doesn't log out once they're finished? It's a PUBLIC machine people.

Annoying for those of us that did actually make the effort to protect our accounts etc.

Portable Firefox on filestorage ftw :P

Don't all machines have firefox on them anyway?

But yeah, portable's great for your own extensions etc.

Yea, but the details were stored in appdata on the local machine.

When I informed them that there was a problem, they told me to restart the computer after use if I was concerned that I could access the local hd and access everyone else's appdata folders, and hence firefox profiles..

I would love to see the look on people's faces who are queueing to use a machine when you switch it off and walk away instead of logging out.

Jonathan:
Just forward all of your Myzone mails to your gmail account, and set that up so you can send mails as your @tcd.ie address also. I've been doing this for as long as I've been in college - saves me from having to check 2 email accounts...

I actually did this the other way around and have my gmail account (and loads of others) picked up by my myzone. I dunno whether I'd prefer it the other way or not, but it's too late now. No chance I'm copying over tens of thousands of mails at this point.

Yea, i know, but for I like having two separate accounts.
One for college, and one for personal use.

I'll have a look and see can I edit the cookie or something.

I just have my tcd mail labeled as TCD, so it shows up clearly in my normal mail inbox.

If you still want to keep the accounts separate, just setup a second gmail account...

How do you label all mail from your TCD account?
I cant find a filter that will do label all mail received from the forward.

Wow, another feature that was fine the way it was, and the dickheads in ISS had to ruin it for everyone. Not the first time they've gone and made life more difficult as a means to justifying their existence.

Forward it to mathew+tcd@gmail.com

Filter is then

(deliveredto:(mathew+tcd@gmail.com))

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,488 ✭✭✭mathew

cant do that.. when you forward all the headers stay the same...
and you can only filter by from, to, subject, has attachment, has the text or doesnt have. There is a mailed-by header with tcd.ie as the value but you cant filter by that header field..
The filter can only do crap stuff like archive, delete, label etc so theres no way to change the subject at all..

I just have if to:(*@tcd.ie) pick it up. Catches my username, undergrads@ and any other lists I'm on.

J- lemme know if you get anywhere with that cookie thing. Funking annoying.

Basically, on account of people being too stupid to sign out of their email when they leave a computer, those that are responsible with their accounts are being discomfited. Gg, ISS.

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,536 ✭✭✭Mark200

You have to log out of your email before you log out of the computer?

I never knew that

Wouldn't it be better to try and teach people that they have to sign out on public comps then protecting them all from themselves. One day these people are gonna get screwed over badly in the real world when there isnt ISS to hold their hand (and annoy everyone else whilst doing it!)

It's bloody ridiculous alrite!! absolutely unnecessary... with that logic then Gmail and every other site that allows you the convenience of remaining logged in should remove the feature!

Anybody else realised that this link existed and brought you straight to your mail sign in as opposed to the myzone dashboard?

Seems to be a change of behaviour alright, there's alot of gmail cross site scripting vulnerabilities being discovered all the time, it might be an effort to preempt some upcoming attacks.

I've always used http://mail.google.com/a/tcd.ie to access my email, none of the MyZone rubbish.

I forgot about this till now.. Editing the cookies works grand.

First you'll need this addon. It might say it isn't compatible, but its only BS. The devs were too lazy to change the maxversion value (In which case set extensions.checkCompatibility in about:config in to false or else use this addon). Once add n edit cookies is installed, go and log in to myzone, then go into the cookies editor and type mail.google.com in the search bar.

Find cookies called
• GMAIL_AT
• S
• GXAS
• Or any other cookie refering to /a/ or /a/tcd.ie

On each of these cookies, you need to change the expiry time from end of session to a date in far the future.

You should will stay logged in until that date.
