I'm liking both aswell. I think that the SP demo was just a bit too short to show anything other than the Geomod

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,067 ✭✭✭Gunmonkey

Played the SP demo but not the MP one. Liked it quite a lot, though I loves open-world smashy-ness like Mercenaries or Saints Row. This and Prototype are my next two big purchases.

Thought the demo was pants so wont chance the full game.

    -rubbish ai
    -slowdown
    -didn't like the cover system
-outdated graphics with lots of clipping and poor anti aliasing
-vsync turned off, so lots of screen tearing

Ive a back ground in engineering so i love trying to destroy buildings by placing the explosives in the buildings weekspots see if it reacts properly !! Nerdy i know :D

I'll definitely be picking this up... really enjoyed the SP Demo, havent played the MP one yet tho.

Getting very good reviews so far, 4 on metacritic - 92,90,90 and 80

Am torn between Red Faction and Terminator Salvation?

Anyone played both have a recommendation?

I am more leaning towards Red Faction!

Red Faction is miles better! + I finished Terminator in 3 hours!

...I finished Terminator in 3 hours!

I heard it was short with lots of loading, but 3 hours is a bit crazy considering the price!

Red Faction it is so, cheers!

That was on hard too.... and there's quite a few other annoyances! Red Faction probably has 100 times more play in it when you factor in the multiplayer too!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,627 ✭✭✭Fol20

Im actually not looking forward to the campaign.Iv heard its meant to be very long.Although i like getting a bang out of my buck,i do not however like VERY long campaigns.Never liked gta when it was like this.I like campaigns that are around 10hours.more or less than that is not good in my opinion.Well with the exception of a few anyway.Im divided between this and bionic commando.Multiplayer is bc seems fun with swinging but may lack the depth the multiplayer in rf has. What would ye choose and why?

I like being able to blow up anything and everything in a game RF does exactly that.
And for all of you who are bitching about the graphics you gotta appreciate the amount of computing power it takes to be able to blow everything up and for it to look realisitic.

However I havent been able to decide of RF and UFC Undisputed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,627 ✭✭✭Fol20

ufc would become repetitive afterawhile(or at least from the demo anyway). In terms of longevity rf all the way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,559 ✭✭✭LD 50

I've heard from a mate who has the full game of UFC, that it is good, but it does get repetative.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,698 ✭✭✭✭BlitzKrieg

tried the single player demo just last night.

its bloody unforgiving...mostly because I didnt click it was a free roaming gta style game and assumed it played like GOW with smashy smashy. So it took me 5 or 6 attempts until I clicked I was setting of some sort of alarm and noticed the little red light in the corner.

Aside from the difficulty I liked the sledgehammer, best melee weapon since the crowbar, very satisfying. The destructable is double edged though.

on one side smashing through walls and blowing up bridges, works great , makes perfect sense and adds a great element to the gameplay, but sometimes because every weapon is so volitile all the buildings feel like a deck of cards because they come down so easily. Its not even them coming down, its the fact that when you have the walker, you dont even slow down as you plough through them. Maybe if the rubble was more heavy and forced you to back out after ramming a building and had some weight to it, might feel better.

Though I am clearly tempted and would like to sledgehammer people online.

Just bought this from Asda in the UK for just under €40, getting good reviews and its been a while since my last 360 purchase. Looking forward to creating some leaning towers.

Are you an irish site,i wouldnt have given in 92 though. It seems more like a b game to cover the summer than a triple A title.I bought it,now just waiting for it from China :(

Bring back red faction as an fps again i say....I loved the original(still have it somewhere around the house) but i didnt have much love for the second or this one....

I say get the developers back to working on the next Freespace rather then red faction :D

Nay from me, didn't like the single or multiplayer demos.

Not my type of game, might pick it up second hand to give the campaign a proper go.

been playing this for a few days, its more a good game than a bad one i'd say.

Fun smashing things etc, but there is little variety in the gameplay and can see it turning into a grind to finish. I wont say i'm board with it yet but maybe i will be when i go back to it later.

The odd's are really stacked against you as far as i've been able to get in the game , 3rd area. Limited ammo supply's and swarms of enemy , no auto aim that it saw, if you run out of explosives you need to break out the hammer to destroy stuff, and gets a bit frantic running in , smashy , smashy and running back out to let the health regenerate.

Best way i could but this is .... a B-grade saints row, meet's a B-grade mass effect without it's rpg side.

    6/10

Decent enough. Only about an hour in, but it's like a good version of Mercenaries 2.

Sounds like all this game is missing is zombies!!

Was going to pick it up today but saw the Bourne game for €11 in HMV so I bought that instead.

Great game this, nearly finished now. Very repetitive missions and environment but brilliant gameplay and destruction,
some great weapons aswell. Does anyone know what the difference
    is between
the upgraded sledgehammer and the original? I dont have the option to
swap them in the weapons locker and I think the one Im holding looks a little bit different but
Im not sure, there doesnt seem to be any performance boost anyway.

I was in GAME today and they were giving away a walker figurine with every purchase of the
game, obviously nobody pre-ordered it when the figurine was the pre-order bonus. I asked to
see it and he told me I could have it, ****ing sweet, good quality for a freebie too.

Go into your local GAME and ask, they probably got a pallet of them and nobody would have bothered pre-ordering this game.

Just got it there last night, bought it from japan so i knew there was a bit of a wait. The music is somewhat lacking in it.It feels very quiet when playing. That may have been due to me having the volume low last night when i gave it a go,but it seem like there was little to no music playing when i was playing online. The gameplay is still brilliant..i love the sonic boom, jetpack and concussion backpack

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,698 ✭✭✭✭BlitzKrieg

my copy arrived today and I must say it really does live up to its *smashy smashy* reputation.

    few things I liked

the on rails segment is alot faster in the demo then it is in the full game, so its much easier in the full game.

There is some bizarre sense of joy knowing every hole you make, every bridge you break and building you collapse reamins broken for the whole game. Someone really needs to pick up this technology and put it in a proper wargame or something, I was driving back through an early area and all the damage I had done was still present and it genuinely looked like I fought a war through the place.

The vehicles accelerate very quickly, even really big vehicles pick up insane speed and then putting then through a building is very satisfying. Thought the permananent damage might have negative effects on some missions. I accidently took out the stairs to the 2nd floor of a key building and couldnt for the life of me get up to finish the mission. Had to collapse the building and fail the mission in the end.

the run and gun is strangely effective, your character is light enough that moving is fast and dynamic and a quick click of the right thumbstick gives a good shoulder aim. Makes the combat a quick and entertaining process.

The music is pretty weak and the levels a bit sparse and the AI can be a bit dotty, but the gameplay basics are so solid that it is too much of a joy to care.

Got the full game to play and I'm enjoying the campaign more then the online demo. Online can be good for a laugh but it's a bit too frantic for me.

Some good missions and the world is impressive. Haven't got bored of smashing up enemy bases yet either.

Red Faction is bloody great! i ploughed a fair few hours into the sinlge player game, it's nice and challenging!

Didn't care for the multiplayer much though, in the games i played everyone always had rocket launchers... no aiming necessary, bit pooh.

I was very skeptical, but absolutely loved the demo. Seemed a bit frantic, but good. Love the ability to destroy buildings and the fact that the destruction is permanent.

The only thing I didn't like was the fact that the AI just seems to randomly spawn all over the place, sometimes they spawned practically right beside me.

I've heard it gets very difficult towards the end? Can you bump the difficulty up or down before a mission?

I'm not sure if you can change it mid-way through a campaign, you'll manage with the difficulty spike anyway, the main problem is the low limit on ammo i find. You get some pretty savage weapons later on too!

Been playing a lot of this over the last few days and am really, really enjoying it. A good summer blockbuster of a game if ever there was one. Love the persistent world, although
its annoying I have to go around that big forge after I destroyed that big f'ing bridge in Badlands :D
. Missions are challenging (I get obsessed trying to beat the pro times in the demolition ones) and overall a very satisfying little game.

A couple of issues: trying to keep the morale gauge up can be a pain, constantly respawning EDF can be annoying in core missions, and I wish there was more salvage around. But few of the problems really dent the game, and for such a massive open world I'm very surprised at how stable the game is technically (there rarely seems to be any game breaking glitches, and I havent noticed the frame rate drop considerably at any point - which is very impressive given some of the ridiculously large scale battles that go on).

Just got back into this game. Got it at launch, played the first few levels, then got bored. Just started it again this morning, and before I knew it, 3 hours had disappeared! Will try the multi once I finish the SP.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,147 ✭✭✭mise

I'm really liking it too. I love the demolition master missions.. there one where you have to collapse a building with 9 grenades from a distance.. replayed it about 10 times trying to topple it quicker!

Only just located the first MOAB, so this evening Im gonna find some nice big EDF building to obliterate

Thinking of picking up either this, or protoype this afternoon. Which is better? Also, anyone know where is the cheapest place to pick up RF? :pac:

I'm a bit lost at the moment, I'm currently in "Martian Council"

The EDF bar is at 0 the Guerilla bar is at 100, there's no EDF bases remaining in entire map and there's no new missions for me to try. I don't know what I'm missing or have to do at this stage. Anyone know what I need to do?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,324 ✭✭✭chrislad

Just do a few Guerilla side missions. Happened to me and it just popped up.
