HIIT V Regular Exercise Bike routine

Ive very recently changed to HIIT on an exercise bike rather than the regular 40 minutes at a consistent pace routine.

    My HIIT routine is:

    3 minute warm up
    1 minute sprint
    2 minute steady pace

then repeat 5 or 6 times, then a 2 minute cool down.

Thats about 18-20 minutes on the bike. Im just wondering is that about normal time for a HIIT routine?. Admittedly i feel completely worn out after it and i barely get to the 18 minutes and its supposed to be the better way to burn fat. I think i eat a good diet as well so im not forgetting about that either. Is it commonly accepted that this will burn fat faster? or any tips as well for HIIT?
