After the gym

    Hey all

I was just wondering whats best to do after your workout. I'm currently 18.5 stone (I know :() but am determined and focused on losing it now due to some other issues which aren't important. I've started going back to the gym (I went for about 2 months early last year but had to quit because of college and work and never got back into it til now).

I have a good workout planned, the same program I was on last year which was designed by the instructor. But I was just wondering if when I've finished the workout, should I be going into the steam room? Will it help at all and how long should you be in there for?

Also, whenever I hit the shower, the water is freezing. But is it better to shower with the cold water anyway? It'll take a bit of getting used to but if you all say I should, I will.

Any other general bits of advice are more than welcome. I've been getting tips from the Diet forum here too, but any other help is greatly appreciated. If you want me to tell you the program I'm on too I will.

    Cheers

Wouldnt be mad about the steam room myself, I think they leave you really tired because you're so dehydrated!

Op, I stand to be corrected but your just losing water in the steam room which when you start drinking again will replace what you have sweat.

I go into the steam room after every session but i have a 750ml bottle of water with me that I drink.

OP the steam room is not going to help you lose ANY weight. Water lost is gained back once you drink.eat again!

It is great for the skin. The cold shower is there for a reason. The steam room opens your pores and when you leave you are supposed to hop under the cold shower. This closes the pores right back up. After you finish this process you go have a normal shower.

The cold water will make no difference at all. Enjoy your hot shower.

I dont use steam rooms but I wouldnt imagine they do any great harm or good. If you enjoy it and it helps you keep the motivation up during a workout because you have it to look forward to...then keep it up.

Keep hydrated though. Everything falls to pieces when you aren't hydrated.

hehe, I was actually drinking a bottle of water as I read that. Drinking water is a big change for me, I'm a Lucozade-oholic. Or at least I was. Thats gone now. Hence the water. Doesn't quite have the same tang to it but a necessary evil :D

Great news about the steam room, always found it to be pointless. Rather try and do an extra 10 minutes in the gym. Plus as I'm so overweight I prefer to use methods of losing weight which don't involve partial nudity. Unfortunately this involves swimming too but as there are no pools near where I live anyway it makes no odds.

Thats great guys, thanks for that

If you get sick of plain old water you could try sparkiling water with a dribble of OJ in there.
