Alas I missed out on the weekend fun.

This has not been a good year for my Nerd Habits.
But have lived Vicariously through others. Who have reported a fun weekend. I'm placing my Bets on Thought Bubble at the end of the year. To really let me Nerd loose.

My Mate Nick made it to Rookers Instagram.

Somewhat disappointed to see that pretty much nothing is going on sale or reductions on amazon regarding comics. With so much getting discounted across the board, frustrating to see nothing in the comics section getting discount. So much stuff in my wishlist I was hoping to get a cheeky deal :D

SMALL PRESS DAY 2016: Sat Jul 09 2016 at 10:00 am to 07:00 pm

"Taking place at Filmbase, Forbidden Planet Dublin are proud to host some of the best and most exciting self-published talent in Ireland and the UK giving them a space to exhibit their work to the Public on a much larger scale than before."

No idea if this is just some tables selling small press comics, or if it's to be a bit like the excellent festival highlighted in the previous post (which had really interesting side-events attached), but it might be worth a drop-in either way.

Tables selling small press comics, haven't heard mention of any panels taking place as yet. Would be worth a look if you're in Town anyway. Some Irish folks are doing some pretty cool things with indie comics. Gonna pop by myself for a gander.

If it were just tables with comics, I'd be there, but publishers/creators are behind those tables - some cajoling, some just watching - which makes browsing a little excruciating (for me, anyway). But yeah, there are cool Irish comics about - a recent favourite is Olly Cunningham's Black Lines, which is online at blacklinescomics.com.

Been on both sides of that table myself and I don't disagree with you. I used to hate people annoying people annoying me while I was flicking through stuff... but it's somewhat of a necessary evil :o

I've passed tables before where Creators have their head's down, hard at work sketching away or some other such activity. While that leaves people free to browse their works, it also projects a somewhat disinterested attitude. In the end, Creators need to find a happy medium; let passing folk know that they would be happy to tell them about the works they're flicking through but in a friendly/ no pressure manner.

I'm guessing there's something in the interaction between creator and punter that many on both sides find gratifying. That said, I was at a table-event in the Temple Bar Gallery before Christmas, which worked like a shop: pick your book and pay the cashier by the door. I like that model.

Darkness. Violence. Drama. Light. These words are used to describe Beyond Caravaggio, but could also define most comic books. Many artists started their careers sketching from masters such as Caravaggio in the NGI collection, and so, we have invited four leading lights from the Irish comic scene to speak about their work, influence, inspiration and motivation in this unique, one-off event on Saturday 13 May between 10am – 1pm.

Following the illustrated talks, there will be opportunity for attendees to speak to their comic heroes, share some of their own work and get tips and advice in our special portfolio clinic. Big Bang Comics from Dundrum will join us on the day along with our stellar speakers: Declan Shalvey, Nick Roche, Stephen Mooney and Eoin Marron.

IT IS A FREE EVENT. BUT PLACES MUST BE BOOKED VIA THE LINK ABOVE.

    Mod Note:

Hi folks, just to let ye know there's a new What's On forum on boards where you can post about any upcoming events you think people might be interested, whether or not you're involved in organising them. See here for general rules, but the short version is that it's worth crossposting anything you'd put here into that forum as well.
