Problem with Horstmann H37XL Series 2

    Hi,

I have a heating system thats controlled from a Horstmann H37XL Series 2 system. It basically lets you turn the heating on downstairs or upstairs or just the water heater.

So anyway today when I hit the boost button to turn the heating on downstairs the boiler (baxi) won't fire up and heat the downstairs?

The strange thing is the boiler will fire up and heat upstairs and the water when I hit their boost buttons so I know that the boiler is working.

I've tried to reset the control panel but it hasn't sorted it. :(

Anyone have this system and had any problems like this?

    Cheers!

    Hi,

Just wondering what the problem was. Have the same problem but reversed. Boiler fires for downstairs but not upstairs.

The first thing to do would be to do is bleed the radiators as they could be full of air.

I will move this to heating & plumbing as they will have further suggestions if needed.

    Motorized valve faulty.(for upstairs)
Thermostat faulty or not turned up.

Air in the system, try bleeding rad, if water comes out then its not an air problem.
Try moving override leaver on MV into the locked open position, turn on other zones, if that works replace valve .
Check electrics to it and Thermostat if no power at MV.

Safer option is to call a professional plumber. It would save you buying 4 or 5 things like clocks etc. before you find out what's faulty, an experenced professional would know what's faulty in under 10 miniutes.

What area are you in ?
    Maybe somebody here could help.

First thing to do is turn up the room thermostat for that zone.
If that doesn't work, you will have to trace back to see if you have a switched live coming out of the programmer. If not, the internal switching circuit is gone.

If the programmer is the issue, just purchase a new one, unclip old & push new on to the base plate. No wiring required.

Find the motorised valve for downstairs circuit & slide the lever from Auto to Manual if fitted.

Hi Shane0007 - Many thanks for your reply. The below is the Horstmann that I have, so its just really about changing the current heating from Auto to Manual. I have a look into that now

If you press the boost button does this
    Zone heat
To change to manual flick down the front cover and
Use the select button for that zone

Hi Robbie.G - No the boost button doesn't give off any heat for Downstairs, the boiler doesn't work when I select downstairs, but it does for upstairs & the water.

The only program options I have are auto/all day/on constantly and off.

There is no option to set it manually.

Then more than likely as Shane said check your hotpress and look for a motorised valve and follow what Shane advised

Hi guys, thanks for that I didnt realise that ye were referring to the Circuit been in the hot press, I have just checked however and there is no lever so there is no option there to select a manual mode.

So its looking like I will need a plumber in - Yikes !!!

Im so sorry guys for the delay in updating this thread, but I just want to say thanks a million for helping me out the other evening.

Honestly Im totally clueless with these sort of things, but I did find the lever - It was above the gas boiler in the kitchen, and I was able to select it to auto & it worked.

Im assuming I will need to get the boiler serviced asap, but thanks a million guys, your help was amazing.

I realise this is a late comment to this thread, however, I hope someone can help.

I've just bought a house with a Horstmann H37XL Series 2 programmer with options for HTG1 (upstairs), HTG2 (downstairs) and Water. In summer months, I know it will be beneficial to heat the water without having rads on. However, in Winter in my old house, having the rads on also heated the water. Is this possible with such a programmer? As in, by having HTG1 or HTG2 (the rads on) will the water get heated? Or does it need to be done separately through the water setting - which to me seems a bit strange!
